Chapter 58 Fifty-eight Slashes

When Lin Hongchu came back from Qianjintang to get medicine for her mother, she saw a person lying at the door. She also saw Feng Miao and Xu Jiang standing at the door, so she hurried forward and stared at Feng Miao vigilantly.

Feng Miao stepped forward and helped the man up.

Lin Hongchu walked up to Xu Jiang and looked at the man who had been helped up by Feng Miao several times but failed to get up. He whispered, "Is this man here to blackmail me?"

Xu Jiang coughed lightly, signaling her not to say it in front of others, then stepped forward and asked with concern, "Is Master Jiang okay?"

Jiang Gu drank too much last night and was already feeling weak. After the fall, he immediately felt dizzy and couldn't tell east from west.

After all, he had fallen in front of his own house, so Xu Jiang couldn't just leave him there and let him go. She asked Feng Miao to help him into the inn. Seeing that he was wearing thin clothes, the fall didn't count. If he really got cold, it would be her fault.

When he got to the shop and saw the fire burning, Jiang Gu finally caught his breath.

Feng Miao asked, "How does it feel?"

Jiang Gu waved his hands and wanted to get up and leave, but just as he stood up, his body went limp and he sat down again.

Xu Jiang sighed, "Young Master, you should take a rest."

Then he asked Lin Hongchu to make him a cup of tea. Thinking it was a pity to smash the two sets of teacups last time, Lin Hongchu went to the kitchen to get a coarse pottery bowl and made him a cup of Laoyin tea.

Feng Miao fed him the tea, and he regained his composure. Lin Hongchu stared at him. He looked good, but she couldn't help but want to laugh when she thought of the scene of him lying on the ground.

"Thank you." Since he had already come in, Jiang Gu no longer insisted on his oath. He stood up and looked up at the bookstore.

Seeing that he didn't make a fuss about leaving, Feng Miao breathed a sigh of relief and sat down next to him.

Xu Jiang also sat down, took the stove to refill Jiang Gu's tea, and added half a cup to her own teacup.

Feng Miao had persuaded Jiang Gu to come here from Pingkangfang, and after what had just happened, his lips and mouth were already dry. He had thought he could get some tea in this bookstore, but Xu Jiang had no intention of pouring tea for him. He could only watch helplessly as the two of them drank.

After taking a look around, Jiang Gu felt that the bookshop was shabby. He began to disbelieve Feng Miao's words, but he still asked Xu Jiang, "I heard from Mu Zhi that your shop can help me publish a collection of works?"

Muzhi? Xu Jiang looked at Feng Miao, who bowed to her. It seemed to be his name.

Feng Miao also asked, "I wonder what Madam Xu thinks about this matter?"

Xu Jiang drank a sip of tea slowly and then said slowly, "I'm sorry, but this collection cannot be published."

Jiang Gu smiled sarcastically, and he knew it.

Feng Miao said anxiously, "Madam Xu, are you still worried about the Jisheng Book Bureau? I'll go and mediate there, they won't stop us."

Xu Jiang said, "This bookstore does not publish this collection, not because of Jisheng Bookstore, but because I do not want to publish it."

"Why?"

Xu Jiang suddenly looked up and stared into his eyes, "Because Master Feng, you didn't tell me the truth."

Feng Miao was stunned. "What do you mean, Madam Xu?"

"The young master said he couldn't bear to see Xiao Ping's talent buried, so he wanted me to publish a collection for him. But you didn't offer me his remaining poems, and you didn't discuss the matter with me. Instead, you took the initiative and brought me here. It seems like you were trying to coerce me."

Xu Jiang's sharp gaze penetrated his eyes, trying to uncover his true intentions. After a long pause, he said with a half-smile, "Young Master, you are so eager. It doesn't seem like you really want to publish a collection for Young Master Jiang. It seems that you want to use this as an excuse to get me associated with him."

Jiang Gu looked surprised.

A flash of panic flashed across Feng Miao's eyes, but it was immediately replaced by a sense of injustice. "Madam Xu, why do you doubt my intentions? I confessed to you last time that although I was asked by the Zhou family to gather information, I also wanted to use this opportunity to publish a collection for Xiaoping. Why did you misinterpret me in front of Xiaoping?"

"Whether I misinterpreted it or you are just exaggerating, it's hard to say." Xu Jiang looked at Jiang Gu and said with a smile, "Why don't you ask Young Master Jiang to make the final decision?"

Jiang Gu glanced at the two of them and said lazily, "What does your lawsuit have to do with me?" He then asked Feng Miao, "You dragged me out of my comfortable life just to let me judge the case for you?"

"Xiao Ping, why are you being sarcastic? I've come here in such a humble way just for you, yet you've stayed out of this matter and refused to defend me. It shows how good intentions often go unrewarded in this world." Feng Miao stood up angrily, saying aggrievedly, "Since Madam Xu has a prejudice against me, there's no point in me staying here. You can handle the rest on yourselves."

After saying that, he left Jiang Gu and walked away, leaving Xu Jiang and Jiang Gu looking at each other in bewilderment.

"Mr. Jiang, you..." Xu Jiang glanced towards the door. Why aren't you leaving?

"Please give me another cup of tea." Jiang Gu leaned against the table and supported his forehead.

He was still hungover and felt weak and limp. Feng Miao had left him here, so how could he go back? Never mind, he could just blame her for now. It was her who had driven her away anyway.

Xu Jiang glared at him. This man was quite shameless.

"Mr. Jiang and Feng Miao don't look like close friends."

"Best friend?"

Jiang Gu stared at the tea leaves swirling in the bowl and said slowly, "People like me only have drinking buddies, not close friends."

"These words are really heartbreaking."

"It is called killing someone's heart only if he has the intention to kill him." Although Feng Miao had known him for many years, he had never seen this man clearly, and he was too lazy to see him clearly.

There are so many people coming and going around him. If he had to tell whether they were sincere or not, then there would be no need to do anything else.

As for who is planning something, he doesn't care. If he can really plan something, it means that his life is still useful, so he should just do good deeds and accumulate virtue.

Seeing Jiang Gu's nonchalant expression, the matter of publishing a collection seemed like Feng Miao's eagerness. Xu Jiang then asked, "Sir, do you really want to publish a collection?"
