Chapter 26 of Ghost Buddha Yang
Master Chen lay flat on a comfortable big bed with a peaceful expression.
Above Master Chen, Jie Qianchou, Wang Li, Liaochen, Zhang Chunhe and several others stood in a circle, looking down, all with constipated expressions.
Bu Kui also put his head in and looked around.
Seeing Bu Kui's head approaching, several people simultaneously retracted their heads. Liao Chen silently chanted a sutra, Zhang Chunhe shook his head and sighed, Wang Li retreated to the door, and Jie Qianchou folded his arms and looked around.
Bu Kui cleared his throat and said, "The initial diagnosis is natural death. The body needs to be sent to the hospital for further examination."
Zhang Chunhe clasped his hands together and said to Bu Kui, "Please, please keep this a secret for us. In today's environment, it's so hard to make money from business."
Bu Kui waved his hand and said, "I'm the most tight-lipped person, don't worry."
After saying that, he quietly deleted the circle of friends he had just posted.
Bu Kui led the others out of the room. The corridor was already crowded with people. Yan Ran, still holding a basin, squeezed in at the back of the crowd.
Bu Kui cleared his throat and said, "According to customary practice, the police will also need to understand the deceased's personal circumstances. For example, if the deceased had any conflicts with anyone. If there are none, we can preliminarily close the case."
Bu Kui was just going through the motions and was about to leave before he could finish his words. At this moment, a sharp female voice called out.
"There are too many people who have grudges against him."
Bu Kui abruptly lowered his leg, which he had just raised. He looked towards the source of the voice. The speaker was a woman with long hair and white clothes - Chen Fangqin.
Chen Fangqin took two steps forward and said, "Master Yan and Master Chen had a quarrel last night."
Yan Ran had been eating melon from a bowl, but in the blink of an eye, the melon had become hers. She blinked her eyes blankly at Chen Fangqin, unsure how to react.
Chen Fangqin seemed to have just realized that she had said something wrong. She gently covered her mouth with four fingers, looked at Yan Ran and said, "Master Yan, please don't misunderstand me. I just heard the police ask about it just now, and I said it casually. I didn't mean to target you, really."
Bu Kui's eyelids twitched, and he looked at Yan Ran: "It's been a few days since I last saw you. How come you've become a master too?"
Yan Ran silently raised the small basin in his hand to cover his face.
Bu Kui walked over and tapped the basin with his fingers: "I've seen you! Tell me, what's going on?"
Yan Ran slowly put down the basin and glared at Jie Qianchou.
Jie Qianchou immediately came over and said, "It's a long story."
After the primary election yesterday, Yan Ran was in a bad mood and had no intention of going to the hot springs. Finally, Jie Qianchou told him about a legendary, top-notch hot spring on the top of the mountain that was very good for the skin. Yan Ran then followed Jie Qianchou up the mountain.
As they were walking, Yan Ran suddenly hit Jie Qianchou with a small basin. Jie Qianchou rubbed his head and looked at Yan Ran with a confused look.
Yan Ran touched her torn stockings and said, "You did a good job!"
Jie Qianchou's face flushed. "Fortunately, there are no outsiders here, otherwise they would think I did something to you. I am just trying to help you."
Before performing the exorcism ritual, Xie Qianchou secretly asked Yan Ran to remove a piece of silk thread from her stockings. He had previously tied the white thread to a straw mannequin. The mannequin was able to move through the air because Xie Qianchou controlled the thread with one hand, like a marionette. Finally, Xie Qianchou burned the thread and the mannequin to "destroy all traces." Of course, the thread had already been coated with a flammable material, so a line of fire would be drawn directly toward the mannequin.
Jie Qianchou was having a lot of fun, and the stockings that were missing a thread were revealing more and more, which made Yan Ran blush.
Yan Ran became even angrier when he heard Jie Qianchou's sophistry.
"If you hadn't tricked me, would I have come here? And your talent for exorcism, bah."
"Okay, okay, I'll give you another pair of pants as compensation, okay?"
Yan Ran rolled his eyes at him and asked, "Speaking of which, how did Master Chen's straw man move?"
Jie Qianchou chuckled. "That's an old-fashioned trick. His straw man has a tiny barb on its foot, and he sticks it into the calluses on his palm. Then, with just a slight movement of his palm, he can control whether the straw man stands up or lies down."
Yan Ran thought about it briefly and realized something was wrong. Every time Master Chen took the straw man, he paused for a moment, presumably while he was attaching the hook to his hand.
Jie Qianchou continued, "The one called Kikyo is performing traditional Japanese hand-painted magic tricks. Her umbrella is her main prop, and it's full of mechanisms. But she does it very well; it looks at least as beautiful as dancing. As for Tongtian Wu, I really can't figure out how she operates. Her wooden staff is just an ordinary stick. If she doesn't have real kung fu skills that allow her to support herself with one hand, I have no idea how she does it."
Yan Ran: "Then how did you manage to change your appearance so instantly?"
Jie Qianchou: "Have you forgotten how the Skeleton Bride disguised herself?"
Yan Ran looked at Jie Qianchou again: "It's so hot, aren't you feeling hot wearing two layers of coats?"
Jie Qianchou grinned, "Isn't this all to support you, the boss?"
"roll!"
As they spoke, they had already reached the top of the mountain. Not far away stood a cave formed by stacked rocks. Opposite the cave was a fenced-off hot spring pool. Behind it stood a white statue of Guanyin. Carved to lifelike proportions, the statue sat by the pool, one leg crossed and the other dangling naturally in the water. Guanyin clutched a jade jar, her eyes benevolent as she gazed down upon the pool. Steam slowly rose from the hot spring, bringing the statue to life in the mist.
Yan Ran looked at the lonely hot spring in front of him and asked, "Is this the top-notch hot spring you mentioned?"
The top of the mountain actually felt hotter than the mountainside. Jie Qianchou wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "This is the best hot spring in Jinshan! And let me tell you, those urban legends I mentioned during the live broadcast are all true."
Yan Ran ignored him and went into the cave with the small basin.
Jie Qianchou took out his cell phone, saw that there was still a signal, and started broadcasting immediately.
The cave looked small, but it was actually quite long. A large rock formed the ceiling, and inside, the terrain dipped and then rose, forming a small depression. Yan Ran felt like she was visiting a scenic spot; the jagged rocks must be referring to this place. She strolled in and paused. A small sign on the side of the cave entrance read, "Honest people live, liars die."
Yan Ran looked at her in confusion. "A tourist attraction has this inscription?" She continued walking, holding the small basin.
The road ahead was obviously short, but she felt more and more exhausted. When Yan Ran reached the lowest point, she felt something pinching her neck, and it became increasingly difficult for her to breathe. She tried hard to make a sound, but her throat was tightly pinched, and she couldn't make a sound at all. Yan Ran half-knelt on the ground, threw away the small basin, touched her neck with both hands, and tried desperately to grab the hands that were pinching her, but no matter how hard she tried, those hands were like transparent and could never be touched.
Yan Ran's lips trembled and her eyelids rolled up. Just when she was about to fall, Jie Qianchou hugged her tightly.
Xie Qianchou had been planning to wait until his livestream had enough popularity before broadcasting his exploration of the hot springs through the cave. However, he heard the sound of a small basin falling to the ground behind him, and so he ran inside.
Xie Qianchou quickly dragged Yan Ran out of the cave. He didn't know why Yan Ran was holding his neck tightly with both hands, so he could only separate Yan Ran's hands and repeatedly call out Yan Ran's name. Yan Ran's lips had already turned a little blue, and his expression was extremely painful. Xie Qianchou didn't know what to do for a moment, and in a panic, he thought about whether artificial respiration would work.
Jie Qianchou took a deep breath, then pouted and moved closer to Yan Ran's face. One hand covered Jie Qianchou's face.
Yan Ran panted heavily and stared at Jie Qianchou: "What are you doing?"
Jie Qianchou saw through Yan Ran's fingers that she had woken up, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Why should I ask you, why did you suddenly collapse in the cave?"
Yan Ran steadied his breathing and briefly recounted his experience. Xie Qianchou's eyebrows knitted together.
"Why don't we go back first? There's a hot spring inside the villa. And it's almost time for dinner."
Yan Ran nodded, she looked at the cave again and followed Jie Qianchou back to the room in the villa.
The villa prepared a buffet for them. Although there were many dishes, they were all home-cooked dishes, with the most common types being staples like fried rice and fried vermicelli.
Yan Ran and Jie Qianchou had changed their clothes and were sitting in the corner of the restaurant, eating noodles from their bowls intermittently.
The two talked about the cave from time to time. Yan Ran couldn't forget the lines of words in the cave and always felt that there was something strange about the cave.
Jie Qianchou didn't believe it at all. He just thought that Yan Ran had a cramp or something and was just scaring himself.
"There's a dark glow between your eyebrows, and your forehead is dark blue. Someone is mistreating you."
Chen Shifu sat next to Yan Ran without knowing when.
Jie Qianchou rubbed his head. He had just seen him and Wang Li together, so why was he sitting at his table now?
Xie Qianchou smiled and said, "Master Chen, we are all in the same business, so let's not play these weird things."
Chen Shifu gently waved his fingers and said, "No, no, the ghost on Master Yan's back was not created by me."
When Yan Ran heard that there was a ghost on her back, she immediately thought of the suffocating feeling in the cave.
"Master Chen, you said there's a ghost on my back?"
"It's a little kid, and it's lying on your back right now."
As Master Chen was speaking, his expression suddenly changed: "I saw his hand slowly moving towards your neck!"
