Chapter 18 The Best Mother-in-Law

Chapter 18 The Best Mother-in-Law

Aunt Zhou was somewhat taken aback. Her face turned cold as she looked at him and asked, "Why do you want to go to the capital?! Isn't it perfectly fine for us to stay in Changliu Village like this?"

Zhou Feng said seriously, "Mother, we can't hide in Changliu Village forever! Even if we don't go looking for them, they will come looking for us!"

Aunt Zhou was startled by what she heard. Her eyes slowly lowered, and a hint of sadness appeared on her face. She sighed and said, "Your eldest brother just said the same thing. Fine, do whatever you want. I'll listen to you!"

Zhou Feng was overjoyed and immediately knelt down, grabbing her hand. "Mother, don't worry, I will definitely clear Grandfather's name..."

Before he could finish speaking, Aunt Zhou interrupted him immediately, frowning and whispering, "Watch your words!"

Zhou Feng stopped what he had just said and said, "Yes, Mother, I know."

Aunt Zhou's complexion gradually improved, and she helplessly helped him up. "You're all grown up now, and I can't control you anymore. Don't just sit here like an idiot. Come inside and eat some radishes. The radishes from our field are delicious."

Zhou Feng nodded. "Mm."

Aunt Zhou led Zhou Feng into the house. No sooner had she left than the two ducks in the backyard laid another nest of eggs.

As soon as Aunt Zhou stepped inside, she heard the quacking of ducks. She quickly turned around to look into the duck nest and couldn't help but smile when she saw the duck eggs. "These ducks are really good at laying eggs. They lay seven or eight nests a day. If they keep laying eggs, the whole yard will be full of them."

Zhou Feng turned around and said, "Mother, I have indeed heard of chickens that lay a whole yard full of eggs."

"What? It really exists?" Aunt Zhou asked in surprise.

As Zhou Feng walked into the house, he said, "It really is. It seems to be from many years ago in that Tan family in Fengping Village. I heard that their chickens laid a whole yard full of eggs in one night."

Aunt Zhou shook her head and laughed, "Nonsense, it must be a lie."

Zhou Feng nodded in agreement, "Upon closer reflection, it really is nonsense."

Their conversation was overheard by Du Wanchun, who was not far away. She took it as a joke, but for some reason, it sounded familiar. Where had she heard it before? She thought about it carefully but couldn't remember.

After the family cleaned the radishes, Aunt Zhou picked out a few of the larger ones, shredded them, and cooked a large pot of radish and duck egg soup with the boiled duck eggs.

The soup was incredibly delicious. Du Wanchun, who usually didn't have a big appetite, ate three large bowls this time.

Seeing that she was enjoying her meal, Aunt Zhou was also happy. She smiled and said, "When things get better in the future, I'll cook you a few more dishes."

Du Wanchun smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Mother."

"Don't thank me, child. We're all family." Aunt Zhou got up and ladled out the remaining radish soup from the pot with a smile.

Zhou Zhao followed behind her and said, "Mother, there are also pastries. Your pastries are the best."

Aunt Zhou nodded in agreement, "Okay, I'll make all the pastries you like and let you eat your fill."

"Mother is so good." Zhou Zhao's face was full of smiles.

Du Wanchun watched with envy. Sometimes she thought that it would be great if her own mother could be by her side.

Strangely, as she thought this, a scene she had never seen before flashed through her mind: she was holding the hand of a woman and calling her "Mother." The woman was extremely beautiful, like a fairy descended from heaven.

She was stunned for a moment. When did she ever have such a mother?

Du Wanchun shook her head and took another sip of the soup in her bowl.

Her round little face turned rosy from drinking the hot soup, and she looked much healthier than when she first arrived.

Zhou Ruiyuan slowly put down his chopsticks and bowl, his gaze unconsciously falling on her. Seeing the rice grains on the corner of her mouth, he couldn't help but reach out and gently wipe them away for her.

Du Wanchun felt the warmth of his fingertips, was slightly startled, looked up at him, and saw his deep eyes. She felt as if an electric current had passed through her, and quickly lowered her head to take out a handkerchief to wipe her mouth.

Zhou Ruiyuan immediately pulled his hand back from mid-air.

After dinner, the family busied themselves loading the radishes onto the carriage, working until dark.

After dark, Du Wanchun dragged her slightly tired body back to her and Zhou Ruiyuan's room.

Perhaps it was bad luck, but as soon as she lifted the curtain, she found Zhou Ruiyuan sitting in a chair changing his clothes.
