Chapter 229 Hit by a Tree

Chapter 229 Hit by a Tree

Madam Wu paused for a moment. To be honest, she didn't know his full name, only that his surname was Wei.

After a moment's thought, she replied, "Your surname is Wei."

The man muttered to himself, then pressed his slightly throbbing head and said, "Do you know where my home is?"

Madam Wu shook her head frankly, "You're not from Changliu Village. You didn't tell me where you were or where you lived before the accident happened."

The man was startled. "You are my wife, but you don't know where I'm from?"

Wu Niangzi nodded, her hands clasped tightly together, thinking the man would blame her. But the man simply said, "Then I must not have been a good person before."

Madam Wu was stunned.

The man continued, "If I had been a good person, why wouldn't I have told my wife where her home was?"

Lady Wu lowered her eyes and said slowly, "It can't be said that way. At that time, you just had many unspeakable reasons, which is why you didn't tell me."

The man looked at the child in his arms and said slowly, "That's enough. I've told you about the past. I'll stay here to take care of you and your child from now on."

Wu Niangzi was deeply grateful, and her red eyes immediately filled with tears.

Seeing that the family was talking, Du Wanchun did not linger any longer and turned around to open a guest room.

She had just come out when she heard Xiao Mianmian crying.

Du Wanchun quickly picked her up, and saw that Xiao Mianmian was pointing to the door.

Du Wanchun quickly looked in the direction she was pointing.

Sure enough, several outsiders were standing suspiciously outside the courtyard gate.

Du Wanchun carried the child to the door.

The strangers, with stern faces, saw Du Wanchun and asked her, "Did you see an injured man pass by here?"

Du Wanchun shook her head and said, "I didn't see it."

However, the strangers were somewhat skeptical and pointed to the bloodstains on the ground, asking, "Where did this blood come from?"

Du Wanchun replied, "This blood is probably left over from the neighbor across the street killing a chicken."

The outsider frowned as he listened, looking towards Du Wanchun's courtyard. "Could we go in and look for someone?"

Du Wanchun lowered her gaze and said coldly, "It's not appropriate for a woman like me to barge in here alone."

The outsider seemed unwilling to say more to Du Wanchun, and said sternly, "Get out of the way, or we'll get rough!"

Du Wanchun wasn't afraid of them at all. She took a step back and said, "Since you all want to come in so much, let's see if you can step through this door."

The strangers looked at each other, then walked together into the courtyard.

However, they had only taken one step when a bolt of lightning suddenly struck the sky, hitting a large tree next to the courtyard gate, causing sparks to fly everywhere.

Those people were stunned and stood there in shock.

One of the timid people inside said, "This lightning is really eerie; we'd better not go in."

The others frowned and said sternly, "What nonsense are you spouting? Hurry up and go inside."

Du Wanchun took a few steps back, a smile appearing between her brows.

The little girl she was holding also smiled.

Just as the group was about to take another step inside, the tree that had been struck by lightning crashed down with a loud bang, directly crushing them.

"ah!"

They all screamed.

A few of those at the back managed to escape, but the leaders were all pinned under the tree.

"Ah! Help!"

Their legs were pinned down, and they cried out in pain.

Du Wanchun said to them, "I've already told you, you might not be able to get through this door."

The others who weren't trapped under the tree helped lift it away.

Injured and disheartened, they left, one supporting the other, looking dejected.

After they left, Du Wanchun immediately closed the door.

She carried the child and strode to Wu Niangzi's door, calling out to her, "Sister Wu."

Madam Wu came out of the house carrying the child. "Was someone outside just now?"
