Chapter 57 Preparing to Build a House

Chapter 57 Preparing to Build a House

Du Wanchun nodded. "Yes, Mother, don't worry, I won't be so easily fooled by her."

"That's good." Aunt Zhou said, putting the mint leaves on the table, looking up at her mud-brick house, and said, "When should we fix this house?"

Du Wanchun laughed and said, "Mother, why don't we tear it down and rebuild it?"

"Rebuild it?" Aunt Zhou asked in surprise. "Do we have that much silver now?"

Du Wanchun did some mental calculations and said, "Yes, we'll build a small brick and tile house."

Aunt Zhou got up and looked at the Chen family next door. "Alright, we'll listen to you. This mud-brick house leaks air everywhere when it's windy or rainy. It's time to rebuild it."

The Chen family next door has a house with blue bricks and tiles, which is considered a decent house for a rural family.

When Aunt Zhou first came to Changliu Village, she stayed in that house for a day, and it was indeed much more comfortable than the mud-brick house.

Du Wanchun smiled and stood up, saying, "Then I'll go ask the village bricklayer later."

No sooner had she finished speaking than someone outside the door laughed and said, "Who needs a bricklayer?"

Du Wanchun looked outside upon hearing the voice and saw it was Aunt Wang. She smiled and said, "Auntie, my mother and I are planning to build a house."

Aunt Wang came in carrying several large sweet potatoes. "Great news! I happen to know a bricklayer. If you want to build a house, I'll help you find him."

"Which family is it?" Aunt Zhou asked, pouring her a glass of water.

Aunt Wang took a sip of water and replied, "It's Brother He from Cheng'an County. He built our house when I first came to the village. He's an honest and hardworking man who is meticulous in his work."

Aunt Zhou said happily, "That's wonderful!"

Aunt Wang smiled and said, "I'll have my husband go find him later and ask him to come to your house so he can take a look at you."

Aunt Zhou was extremely grateful. "Sister Wang, thank you so much!"

Aunt Wang smiled and waved her hand, saying, "No need to be so polite with me."

After saying that, she sighed and said, "Sigh, I really envy your family. Your son and daughter-in-law are both filial, unlike my family, which only has me and my old man."

Aunt Zhou lowered her voice and asked, "There's still no news about your son?"

Aunt Wang shook her head. "No, never mind. So many years have passed, I'll just pretend I never had this son."

Du Wanchun comforted her, saying, "Auntie, don't think like that. Maybe he's looking for you too."

The villagers all said that Aunt Wang's family was an old couple with no children. Later, Du Wanchun heard from Aunt Zhou that they actually had a son, but that son went to the capital to make a living years ago and never came back.

The elderly couple sold their old house and traveled all the way to Beijing, but they couldn't find their son. Helpless, they decided to return to their hometown. However, a few years ago, their home was flooded, and they had no choice but to stay here.

Aunt Zhou felt sorry for them, and they felt sorry for Aunt Zhou, so they have been helping each other over the past few years.

After chatting with them for a few minutes, Aunt Wang left the Zhou family.

Du Wanchun watched her retreating figure, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, at the Li residence, the servant returned home and told Liu Lanzhi everything Du Wanchun had said.

Upon hearing this, Liu Lanzhi was so angry that she smashed the teacups on the table. "Fine, she's got some backbone now!"

Young Master Li, standing to the side, said somewhat impatiently, "Didn't you say you had a way to bring her to our residence?"

Liu Lanzhi quickly reassured him, "Don't worry, I have another way."

As she spoke, she rubbed her face.

Yesterday, Liu Lanzhi heard from the nanny in the mansion that there was a cream that could make the skin look white and smooth, so she specially asked someone to find a box for her. Unexpectedly, after using it, not only did it not make her skin whiter, but it also made her extremely itchy.

She didn't dare tell Young Master Li, so she could only secretly hold it by herself.

To everyone's surprise, the more she scratched, the itchier it became, and her originally yellowish-black face gradually turned red, even showing some blood vessels.
