Chapter 668 Feelings Heat Up
Married for one year?!
Mianmian's pupils widened in surprise as she looked at Qing'er.
Qing'er took her arm and whispered in her ear, "When you're out and about, you need to hide your identity."
Mianmian looked up at the old nanny in front of her.
The old woman not only had poor eyesight but also hearing. She laughed loudly, "It's been a year! No wonder you two young couple have such a deep affection for each other."
Mianmian had no choice but to reply, "Yes, Granny."
Qing'er's tense heart instantly relaxed, revealing a relieved smile. However, fearing that Mianmian would see it, she turned her head slightly to hide her smile.
"You two have eaten your fill." The old nanny got up to clear the dishes.
"Grandma, let me help you." Mianmian immediately took the initiative to clear away the bowls and chopsticks for her.
The old nanny clutched her back and quickly said, "Child, put it down, put it down. You are a guest, how can I let you do these things?"
Before she could finish speaking, Mianmian took the bowl and chopsticks to the kitchen of the small house.
Xiao Qing'er also helped pick up the remaining two bowls and followed behind her.
The old woman's kitchen was very dilapidated. When Mianmian put down her chopsticks, she noticed that the rice in the rice jar next to her was almost gone.
She thought for a moment, and before the old nanny arrived, she took out two gold ingots from her bosom and stuffed them into the remaining rice.
After placing it down, she looked up at the old hen in the yard and couldn't help but think of her mother's words, "Qing'er, I once heard my mother say that the old hen in her family used to lay more than a dozen eggs a day."
Qing'er looked curious. "Is it like the old duck your family used to have?"
The old ducks and geese in Mianmian's family used to lay eggs, but after they went to the capital, they put all the chickens, ducks and geese on the estate, and now they probably have a large flock.
She nodded and smiled, "That's right."
Qing'er asked in confusion, "Why did Mianmian suddenly think of this old hen?"
Mianmian looked out the window at the thin old hen and said, "If only the chickens at Grandma's house could lay eggs someday, then we wouldn't go hungry."
Qing'er stroked her head and said softly, "Don't worry, the gold you gave me just now is enough for Granny to buy a whole yard of chickens."
Mianmian nodded obediently.
Just then, the old nanny came with a broom and said with a smile, "Have you two eaten your fill? I have already tidied up the guest rooms, you can come in and rest."
It's getting late. If I don't go to sleep soon after eating, it will be dawn.
Not wanting to trouble the old nanny any further, Mianmian took Qing'er to the guest room to sleep.
Unlike the second floor of an inn, the earthen house in this farmhouse was covered in damp mud.
Qing'er wants to sleep on the floor now, but Mianmian won't agree.
The two lay on the bed, each covered with a blanket.
The guest room was small. Mianmian nestled in the slightly damp blankets, and could faintly smell the sandalwood scent on Qing'er's body.
Qing'er likes incense; she learned some from Du Wanchun and Aunt Zhou in the past.
This sandalwood is Mianmian's favorite fragrance, so Qing'er burns it in her room every day, and over time she naturally carries this fragrance on her body.
The fragrance gradually calmed Mianmian down, and she rolled over and snuggled deeper into the covers.
Qing'er kept her eyes closed, but her ears were listening intently to Mianmian's every move.
"Mianmian, can't you sleep?" he asked Mianmian.
Mianmian peeked her eyes out from under the covers. "Hmm, I can't sleep."
Qing'er rolled over and lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. She said slowly, "How about I tell you a story like I always have?"
Mianmian also peeked out and looked up at the ceiling, laughing, "Great! I love listening to Qing'er tell stories."
The two lay side by side, separated by two blankets, yet their intimacy was the envy of many.
This scene seems to overlap with my childhood.
For a fleeting moment, Mianmian felt that Xiao Qing'er had never left.
She is still her, and he is still him.
Qing'er cleared her throat and slowly said, "Then I'll tell you about my time in the army."
Mianmian was very interested and nodded repeatedly, "Okay."
Qing'er rested his hand on the back of his head, reminiscing about his life in the army. He deliberately hid the hardships he had endured and told Mianmian about the interesting things that happened during that time.
From initial excitement, Mianmian gradually felt more at ease and eventually fell into a deep sleep.
When Qing'er finished speaking, he found that Mianmian had fallen asleep leaning against his arm.
Qing'er dared not move, afraid of waking her up. After pulling the blanket up for her, she also fell asleep.
That night, they both slept soundly, completely forgetting the fright they had experienced at the inn.
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight shone in.
Mianmian slightly opened her eyes and saw Qing'er's face. He was handsome, with fair skin like snow. His beautiful face was like a sculpture by a famous artist, without the slightest flaw.
She stared at him, lost in thought, and couldn't help but reach out and gently touch his eyelashes.
His eyelashes were thick and long, slightly curled, as if a small bamboo skewer could be placed on them.
Mianmian found it increasingly interesting and touched it several times in a row.
Qing'er blinked her eyes, then closed them tightly again.
Actually, he had been awake for a while, but he was afraid that if he opened his eyes he would scare Mianmian away, so he endured the itching on his eyelashes and forced himself to pretend to be asleep.
When Mianmian saw him blink several times, she couldn't bear to tease him anymore and said with a smile, "Brother Qing'er, get up. I know you're awake."
Qing'er finally felt relieved and slowly opened her eyes.
His eyes were very dark, like a bottomless pool. As a warm breeze blew in from outside the window, ripples spread out, and a gentle tenderness emanated from them.
Mianmian stared at him in a daze, then suddenly felt as if something had struck her chest, causing her to stop abruptly, and then her heart started pounding wildly.
The two of them stared at each other, and the air gradually seemed to freeze.
After an unknown amount of time, the old nanny's voice suddenly came from outside the door.
"My God, what's wrong with this chicken?!"
