Chapter 8 Scared Aunt to Death

Chapter 8 Scared Aunt to Death

Upon hearing this, Jiang immediately remembered her poisoning of the victim and hurriedly walked to the wall next door, stepped on a stone, and looked inside.

The Zhou family's courtyard was small, so they could only raise chickens and ducks.

In the southwest corner of the yard, there was a duck coop. Aunt Zhou didn't seem to know much about farm work, as the duck coop was sparse and dilapidated. However, there were three or four large duck eggs lying in that run-down little coop.

Those duck eggs were really big, probably two or three times the size of a regular chicken egg.

Two large ducks stood next to the duck eggs. They seemed to have gotten much fatter in just one day.

Jiang was stunned when she saw it, and muttered to herself, "Impossible, I clearly poisoned them, how come these two ducks are still alive and well."

"That's impossible!"

She couldn't figure it out no matter how hard she tried; her mind was completely blank, and she became dazed.

"Mother, what's wrong? Come down quickly!" Old Chen called out to her.

Hearing his call, Jiang was overjoyed. Just as she turned to come down, her foot slipped and she fell.

"Ouch!"

With a cry of pain, Jiang fell into the pile of dead chickens. When she looked up, she was greeted by a mouthful of stinking chicken feathers and blood. "My God, what terrible things have I done!"

Meanwhile, at the Zhou family home, Du Wanchun was busy helping Aunt Zhou put away the dishes and chopsticks from dinner into the kitchen when she heard a commotion next door. She quickly asked Aunt Zhou, "Mother, what's wrong at Aunt's house?"

Aunt Zhou glanced over there and said, "Don't mind her. That Jiang Qiuju is a shrew. She probably got upset at our house today and is now throwing a tantrum at home."

As she spoke, she continued earnestly, "Wanchun, you must treat those two as elders. If they bully you, just retaliate. Don't worry about us!"

Du Wanchun nodded as if she understood, and smiled, "Mother, now that Third Brother's ears are better, should we go find a doctor to check on Husband and Second Brother's legs and eyes?"

Aunt Zhou is an extremely easy person to get along with. Although the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law met for the first time today, they felt like they had known each other for a long time and felt inexplicably close.

Du Wanchun also liked to call her mother. Every time she called her mother, she would think of her own mother and feel like she had a home again.

Aunt Zhou put down her bowl, looked ahead with a worried expression, and said, "I also want to see a doctor for them, but we don't have enough money right now."

These days, seeing a doctor and taking medicine both cost money. The Zhou family can't even afford to eat, so naturally they don't have the money to buy medicine.

After hearing this, Du Wanchun's mind raced, and she pointed to a small sachet hanging on Zhou Da Niang's body and asked, "Mother, did you make this sachet?"

The small sachet was made from a piece of pale yellow rag, with a few bamboo embroidered on it in green thread.

At first glance, it looks ordinary, but if you smell it carefully, you will find that this sachet emits the fragrance of jasmine and osmanthus.

The two fragrances blended together and smelled surprisingly good; Du Wanchun could smell it as soon as she entered the room.

Aunt Zhou held the small sachet in her hand and smiled at her, "Yes, I got this piece of old cloth while doing sewing. I couldn't bear to throw it away, so I picked wildflowers from the mountain and made this sachet."

After examining the product carefully, Du Wanchun suddenly had an idea. "Mother, your skills are so good, why don't we make some of these spices and sell them in the county?"

"Take it to town to sell?" Aunt Zhou asked doubtfully. "Will anyone buy it? Ordinary farmers only care about making ends meet, who would think about buying spices?"

Du Wanchun explained, “Mother, if you sell it in Changliu Village, naturally no one will buy it. But it’s different in the county or the mansion. There are many wealthy families there, and they will buy some spices to keep themselves safe.”

Aunt Zhou was skeptical. She rubbed the sachet in her hand and hesitated.

She wasn't particularly skilled at farming, raising chickens and ducks, but she was exceptionally good at making incense. However, she didn't want to reveal this skill.

Seeing that she didn't agree, Du Wanchun wasn't in a hurry. She smiled and said, "Mother, don't rush. Let's get our land back first, plant some crops, and then we'll talk about food later."

Aunt Zhou snapped out of her daze and nodded repeatedly, "Yes, that's right, we should get the land back!"

The Chen family had been occupying their land for two years, and she had long wanted to take it back. Today, when the Jiang family came to cause trouble, she finally understood that these people were bullies who preyed on the weak and feared the strong. The more timid and cowardly you were, the more they would bully you.

If you're a bit assertive, they'll actually become more obedient.

Aunt Zhou gritted her teeth, determined to get that land back for the sake of her son and daughter-in-law.
