Chapter 318 Assassination of the Eldest Prince

Under Chahar's arrangement, Shen Xiuyi disguised herself as a palace servant and infiltrated the palace.

Before infiltrating the palace, he had already found an opportunity to send a message to Xue Shen, roughly outlining Chahar's plan.

According to Xue Shen's reply, Xue Shen also placed spies in the palace. Once he was free from Chahar's spies, he could go and meet up with Xue Shen's men.

Chahar's mole only escorted him to the inner city of the palace. The mole didn't seem to be one of Chahar's trusted confidants, but rather someone who had been bribed at the last minute. Perhaps fearing discovery, after leading Shen Xiuyi to the inner city, he hurriedly shoved a token into his hand and ran off like a man on fire.

However, this did make Chen Xiuyi's actions more convenient.

He hung the palace servant's token on his waist, then lowered his eyes and strolled leisurely through the inner city.

Just as Chahar had said, the eldest prince, Chali, had deployed a large number of men to guard the outer perimeter of the palace against his two brothers, while the defenses of the inner palace were considerably neglected. At least, he wandered around the inner palace alone for half a day without anyone coming to drive him away or question him.

After Shen Xiuyi had roughly figured out the terrain of the inner city of the palace, he took out the communication flare that Xue Shen had given him, opened the bamboo cover, and released the flare.

He left a coded message at the location where the fireworks were set off, and then hid in a nearby palace, waiting for the other party to come and meet him.

After waiting for a moment, Shen Xiuyi saw a woman dressed as a palace maid walk quickly towards her. She passed by as if nothing was wrong, but her eyes quickly glanced at the secret signal that Shen Xiuyi had left in the corner, and then walked straight towards the direction where Shen Xiuyi was.

Although Shen Xiuyi was somewhat surprised that the person Xue Shen had arranged was a woman, she waited until the woman entered the hall and exchanged the secret code before emerging from her hiding place.

Upon seeing him, the other person nodded slightly and lowered their voice to say quickly, "My name is Wen Rao. His Highness ordered us to come and assist General Shen. There are a few of our people in the palace, but in order not to attract attention, only I am here to meet with General Shen this time. If General Shen sees someone with an oriole embroidered on their belt, that person is one of ours."

Shen Xiuyi nodded: "What is the current situation in the palace? How long can the Tibetan king hold on?"

Upon hearing this, Wen Rao revealed a complicated expression and lowered her voice, saying, "The Tibetan king died not long ago, and the eldest prince, Chali, is concealing the news of his death and is searching for the will to pass on the throne."

Shen Xiuyi looked surprised, then realized that Charlie had sent a large number of troops to blockade the palace, and understood his intention.

He beat his two brothers to the punch. Regardless of whether the Tibetan king ultimately passed the throne to him in the will, the throne could only be his.

"Where is Chali now?" Shen Xiuyi asked.

"They had searched the Tibetan king's palace thoroughly, but found nothing. Chali sent people to other places to search for the will to pass on the throne, while he himself stayed in the palace, still looking for a secret room or compartment where the will might be hidden."

Shen Xiuyi understood immediately and quickly came up with a plan: "That means he doesn't have many people around him?"

Wen Rao nodded: "The news of the Tibetan king's death is still being suppressed, and his body is still in the palace without being properly disposed of. Although Chali is eager to inherit the throne, he still has some affection for his father, so he did not allow outsiders to stay and look at the Tibetan king's disheveled body."

Shen Xiuyi said, "In that case, I have a plan."

After whispering something to Wen Rao, he said, "You and the others lure away the guards around Chali, and then Chali is mine."

Wen Rao looked surprised upon hearing this, but since Xue Shen had asked them to assist Shen Xiuyi, she didn't object and quickly left after agreeing. She then proceeded to arrange the follow-up matters according to Shen Xiuyi's plan.

After Wen Rao left, Shen Xiuyi went to the Tibetan king's palace.

Shen Xiuyi glanced around from a distance and saw that there were only six guards in the public eye in the Tibetan king's palace, but she didn't know if there were any other guards in the shadows.

He waited patiently for a moment, and then saw a palace servant carrying a food box walk toward the gate of the Tibetan king's palace with a lewd expression.

The palace servants were naturally stopped by the guards, who demanded sternly, "Halt! Where did you come from? What do you want?"

The palace servant stammered and couldn't explain clearly. The guard noticed something was wrong and was about to grab him. Seeing that things were going badly, the palace servant suddenly threw the food box at the guard and tried to rush into the palace.

The guards, of course, wouldn't let him in and immediately drew their swords to stop him.

Seeing that the situation was not good, the palace servant immediately turned and ran in the opposite direction. The guards saw him flee and immediately gave chase.

In just a short while, only two guards remained at the door.

While the guards were distracted by the palace servant who had broken into the palace, Consort Shen had already slipped inside amidst the chaos.

After entering the main hall, he slowly straightened his clothes, adjusted his hat, and put it on properly. Then, with his hands in his pockets, he pretended to be in a hurry to deliver the message, excitedly calling out "Your Highness" while imitating the steps of a palace servant and running towards the inner hall.

Chali came out upon hearing the commotion and saw a palace servant rushing in. He immediately frowned in displeasure and scolded, "Didn't I say you're not allowed to enter the inner palace at will? What's the matter?"

Shen Xiuyi shrank her shoulders after being scolded, carefully bowed, and said tremblingly, "This servant...this servant found the edict of succession."

Cha Li was startled and looked him up and down. Seeing that he was a palace servant he didn't recognize, he said incredulously, "You found the edict of succession? Where did you find it? Bring it here for me to see."

Shen Xiu carefully took out the imperial edict from his sleeve, presented it to him with both hands, and said timidly, "It was found in the study... I am responsible for cleaning the study on weekdays."
