Meng Qi frowned at this. She wasn't tired last night, she was just bored and weak. And although she and Fanghua were attending to the sick, they had taken a nap on the chaise longue in the outer room. When she went to take care of Fanghua, she was still sound asleep.
The two of them returned to the West Wing Hall together, had breakfast together, and rested at almost the same time. How come Fanghua went out after hearing the noise after sleeping for a while, while he was sleeping so soundly?
"What are you thinking about?" Song Chengze asked softly, seeing Meng Qi frowning. "Oh? Nothing, I just suddenly thought of something. By the way, was the Queen's illness this time an accident?"
"You doubt it too?" Song Chengze asked.
"The late Empress Dowager has been gone for many years, and Hibiscus Palace is not abandoned. How could it be possible at this time..."
Song Chengze smiled slightly, "I have almost finished investigating this matter. I will tell you the details later. The trigger of this matter is because of you."
"Me?" Meng Qi was surprised.
"Yes, they were the ones who pursued you when you lived in Hanyuan. They mistook you for the head aunt of the virtuous concubine."
Meng Qi couldn't believe it, "Did you do it?"
Song Chengze nodded and said, "Thank you very much for this. I have really benefited a lot from your one-month stay in Hanyuan." Song Chengze said as he reached out and held Meng Qi's hand.
Meng Qi's heart trembled, and she felt a force spreading from the back of her hand along her arm to every part of her limbs in an instant. It was a wonderful feeling, something she had never experienced before.
She wanted to break free from Song Chengze's hand but it was just a thought in her mind. She didn't move at all and just stared at the two clasped hands.
Song Chengze seemed not to notice and continued, "If our plan succeeds, this matter will lead to suspicion between the three of them."
Meng Qi looked up after hearing this and asked, "Who?"
"The second, fourth, and fifth."
"So powerful? Will it cause any serious injuries?" Meng Qi seemed to have forgotten that their hands were still clasped together, and there was surprise in her eyes.
Song Chengze let out a soft sigh in his heart. He didn't know what he was thinking just now. He just held her hand. No, it couldn't be called holding, it was just covering her. Meng Qi's hand was a little cold, smooth and tender like the fine material of his underwear. It seemed that if he didn't cover her tightly, his hand would slip off.
When he realized he was covering her hand, he quickly looked at Meng Qi, but she was quicker than him, looking down at their hands. He was a little nervous. What would she do? Would she pull it away? Or hold him back? Or...
But Meng Qi didn't move. She just stared at their hands. He saw the redness on her ears.
Song Chengze suddenly became in a good mood. He changed the subject and attracted her attention. She let him hold her hand and listened to him talk.
"It seems that the Queen is pretending to be sick this time?" Meng Qi said happily.
Song Chengze nodded. "If she doesn't think of a way out, father will definitely not let it go. Unfortunately, her 'torture trick' really worked. I see that father is not as angry as he was the day before yesterday." Song Chengze sighed.
"Don't worry, it will take time." Meng Qi said softly, "How is Mother?"
Song Chengze shook his head. "I haven't seen her yet. I originally thought that if you needed to stay in the palace for the next two days, I would find a time to take you to see her tomorrow. But just now, after my father accompanied Master Kaiyuan to Kunning Palace, he told us that we didn't have to stay there. He especially instructed me to take you to visit my mother."
Meng Qi nodded. Who had come up with the idea to have Concubine Lian massage the Empress for such a long time? Wasn't that a slap in the face? Even if Concubine Lian wasn't suffering from an old illness, she must have been sick because she couldn't swallow this anger.
The two of them were talking back and forth when Hu Changsheng said respectfully outside, "Your Highness, Princess, we've arrived."
As the curtain was lifted, Meng Qi felt the warmth on her hand suddenly disappear. Only then did she realize that Song Chengze had been holding her hand for such a long time.
Concubine Lian looked at her son and daughter-in-law who came to pay their respects to her and waved her hands, saying, "I'm fine. Kunning Palace is in a mess right now. Don't offend them."
Meng Qi stepped forward and helped Concubine Lian up. "Don't worry, Mother. I figured they wouldn't be idle these days. Besides, you're sick, so it's only natural for us to come visit you."
Song Chengze sat down and asked, "What did the imperial physician say?"
Concubine Lian patted Meng Qi's hand and said, "You should sit down too. Although you don't have to wait on the Queen to take medicine or drink soup, it's tiring to toss and turn like that for half the night."
Then he turned to his son and said, "It's an old problem. It would have come back in winter, but it just came back earlier because of Youzi."
Although Meng Qi didn't understand what the mother and son meant, she didn't ask. She poured tea for them and sat next to Song Chengze, looking very well-behaved and obedient.
Concubine Lian couldn't say she was 100% satisfied with her daughter-in-law, but she felt relieved, especially after she had made contributions in Hanyuan, and after several other things happened, and after what her son had mentioned to her, she no longer had any prejudice against Meng Qi.
Without waiting for Song Chengze to speak, Concubine Lian said to Meng Qi, "You know the situation between mother and me. I've always told others that I was ill when I gave birth to him, so I couldn't raise him myself. I have to make up for what I said. Being sick once a year is not a big deal. I can use this as an excuse to arrange other things and put off seeing the people I don't want to see."
Meng Qi understood that even if she pretended to be sick, it would be difficult for Concubine Lian, so she pretended for more than 20 years.
"Can't the imperial physician tell?" Meng Qi asked.
"It doesn't matter whether you can see it or not. I feel uncomfortable." Song Chengze took a sip of tea and put it down. "Mother, what happened the night before yesterday? When I entered the palace and heard the news, I wanted to send someone to ask you, but I was afraid..."
