Chapter 92 Moment of Crisis

The next day was a sunny day. There was a bright moon at night. Yuandong came into the house carrying two empty bowls. "The moon is so bright today. I can see the road clearly without a torch."

Meng Qi had changed into the clothes worn by eunuchs, and they were tight-fitting, very convenient for movement.

"Did they drink it?" Meng Qi asked.

"Yes, I saw them drinking it. I said it was sent by the imperial kitchen a few days ago. The princess thought they worked hard every night and gave it to them as a reward. The younger one didn't want to drink it at first, but the older one smelled it and said it was good wine. He took a sip first and then let the younger one drink."

Meng Qi nodded and said to Wang Chenghai, who was also dressed neatly, "Go check it out later. To be on the safe side, you should blow some of the incense in. We'll go over after another stick of incense."

Wang Chenghai should turn around and walk towards the back room.

"Princess, do you really not want me to go with you? My eyes are twitching so badly, it would be better if you didn't go."

Meng Qi waved her hand. "For such a big matter, I'm really worried about relying on just a few words from Wang Chenghai and that person. This thing was not easy to obtain, so I have to check it out in person before I can feel at ease." Meng Qi said as she wrapped the wax paper bag. After thinking for a moment, she reopened it, took out the handkerchief and handed it to Yuan Dong. "Put this away. It should be easy to take a small handkerchief out."

"Are you worried that the man is a fake?" Yuan Dong took the handkerchief and asked worriedly.

"He wouldn't, but Wang Chenghai also said that there were still patrols so late last night, and in this deserted West Six Palaces. I always feel that it is not normal."

"Could it be that this wasn't the rule in the past?"

Meng Qi thought in annoyance that it was all her fault for not caring about these things in her previous life. As the daughter-in-law of the royal family, she knew nothing about these rules and daily routines. If she had paid more attention or thought about Song Chengze and the Rui Palace, she would not have to be so passive.

"I don't know if it is true or not, but I always feel something is wrong. You know, we have been living here for more than 20 days, and there has not been a single accident, let alone being disturbed or having people come in the middle of the night. This is too abnormal. I don't believe they won't pay attention to me. Since no one has come in, I am afraid that they are keeping a close eye on me. Otherwise, how could Wang Chenghai attract so many people when he went out that day? And how could someone notice Wang Chenghai even if he took the wrong road in such a noisy situation?"

Yuan Dong hummed, "You mean there's always someone watching us outside?"

"Yes, but they certainly didn't expect us to attack from the inside, so there must be someone nearby who is always watching Hanyuan. I was also worried that Wang Chenghai's whereabouts would be discovered that night."

"Fortunately, Brother Wang has returned from Lanxin Palace. Even if someone sees us, they won't think of us." Yuan Dong said thankfully.

Meng Qi nodded. "So, I'm always worried. I'll observe first. If there's anything wrong, I can just stay at home."

After waiting for Wang Chenghai to come back and find out that the two had fallen asleep, Yuan Dong tied a black scarf over Meng Qi's ears to cover the lower half of her face. Wang Chenghai also quickly straightened himself up and jumped out of the west room window.

Yuan Dong looked at the bright moonlight that clearly lengthened the shadows of the two people, and his heart began to beat rapidly.

After the two of them passed through the hole, Meng Qi said softly, "Think about it, after you send the things out, you should seal this hole."

Wang Chenghai stood in Lanxin Palace and reached out to pull Meng Qi over. "Yes, I also think it's a good idea to block it."

The moonlight was bright today, illuminating the originally small courtyard of the Lanxin Palace with great clarity. The two of them headed towards the west wing. They had been here before, and there were a lot of large items piled up here, making it a good place to hide.

"If it's really as you think, I will lead that person away. You must not come out." Wang Chenghai whispered as he put the things in the crack of a pile of rubble that they had already spotted.

Meng Qi nodded and remained silent for a while. The air was filled with tension until the sound of a clapper was heard outside. Wang Chenghai whispered, "Your servant will go to the main room and wait."

"careful."

Meng Qi watched Wang Chenghai walk out of the west wing with his back hunched, his figure stretched out in the moonlight.

After waiting for a while, a figure jumped down from the wall. The man was thin and landed lightly in the yard and stood still. He first glanced at the main house, and then suddenly looked towards the west wing.

Meng Qi was concentrating on looking at the newcomer, who was wearing ordinary eunuch clothes and a black hood. Under the clear moonlight, Meng Qi even felt that he could see the sharp light in his eyes.

When the man looked over, Meng Qi panicked and quickly lowered her head, her breathing seemingly stopping. She felt a strong sense of oppression. When she raised her head again, the man was gone.

Meng Qi exhaled, calming herself. When she tried to stand, she felt a chill on her neck, as if something was holding it. She looked up and saw a man in black standing before her, his eyes gleaming with a fierce, triangular expression.

"Get up." the man said.

Meng Qi felt her legs shaking violently, and she had to hold on to the fallen wooden frame next to her before she could stand up.

"Tell me, who is the person you made an appointment with? Who are you? What brought you here? Who do you belong to?" The man's voice was hoarse. Either he had a natural duck voice or his throat was injured.

Meng Qi originally thought that he was with the man just now, but when he asked this, she realized that someone might have heard Wang Chenghai's appointment with that man yesterday.

"You're just an errand boy, so tell me the truth and I won't hurt you. We've been watching that tree for a long time, and there haven't been any people around it. Tell me who sent you there and which palace you belong to. Tell me the truth."
