Chapter 39 You Win It’s been sunny in Vancouver lately…
Vancouver has been sunny lately. The sunlight warms the heart as it bathes the earth, sweeping away the gloom that had been lingering in Chen Song's heart for days. The three-story house isn't big, and after all, it's been three years since I last moved in, so cleaning it up is still a daunting task.
Chen Song's extensive cleaning took two full days and nights to complete. During this time, many neighbors came to visit, and Chen Song, not being fluent in the local dialect, found it difficult to converse with them.
The elderly women and uncles spoke to him enthusiastically. While praising his well-behaved character and his growth into a handsome young man, they also lamented the passage of time and comforted Chen Song about his difficult life.
Chen Song felt nothing inside, he even disliked being pitied.
No one offered help when he was in such a difficult situation as a child, so he couldn't understand why people would pity him now.
Chen Song remembered that some of these faces often teased him when he was young and complained in front of him that his father was a gambler.
They looked down on Chen Shengping and Chen Song, which was completely different from their current warm-hearted appearance.
Chen Song almost doubted whether they had really said such words. But Chen Song clearly remembered that they had said it.
Every day on his way home from school, he would pass by the small shop on the far right of his row. The lady who worked there would taunt him, saying, "Your dad lost again today! He has no money to buy you food! When he gets home, he'll beat your bottom!"
The uncles and aunts around him would laugh and make fun of him.
Every time, Chen Song would lower his head and walk quickly along this road, rushing back home.
Their criticisms had indeed occurred, but their current enthusiasm only struck Chen Song as hypocritical. Therefore, Chen Song didn't engage in much conversation with them, simply responding with a few words.
On the third day, we went to a small town three kilometers away to buy some furniture. Chen Songjia's area has developed rapidly over the past decade. The town isn't big, but it has everything you need. It's small, but it has everything you need. There's a movie theater, KTV, shopping streets, snack streets, a gymnasium, and even elementary, middle, and high schools. The development trend is very positive. You can find anything you want.
After finishing the tidying up, the house finally felt more like home, and Chen Song rested for a few days. His life had never been so free before, and Chen Song felt a little unwell and couldn't sleep.
I kept thinking about the past three years in Beijing. I dreamed about Gu Xingjue again.
Chen Song felt that he had to find something to do, so he found a part-time job in a small restaurant in the town. At the same time, he was looking for a hospital to do his internship.
There was a hospital in town, not too big or too small, and the medical facilities weren't very advanced. Chen Song still hoped to find a better hospital and was looking for one in downtown Vancouver.
After get off work that day, Chen Song received a call from Yun Jingsheng.
It was a quiet night. Chen Song walked on the deserted street and answered the phone: "Hello, Brother Jing Sheng."
Yun Jingsheng said, "Xiao Song, have you returned to Vancouver?"
Chen Song said: "Well, it's been a few days since I returned."
Yun Jingsheng said, "I just returned home today. With the New Year approaching, Ruoyang and my company have a lot of things to do. I'm traveling back and forth between Lin City and Jing City, and it might take a few days before I can go to Wen City. Have you found a hospital you like recently?"
Chen Song put his hands in his pockets and said, "There are two companies, but I haven't gone for interviews yet."
Yun Jingsheng said, "Which two families? Tell me."
Chen Song didn't really want to bother Yun Jingsheng, but he knew that good positions in the hospital were usually filled through referrals and connections. If he kept rejecting Yun Jingsheng, it would seem a bit "arrogant."
Chen Song said: "Vancouver Yile Hospital and Vancouver First Hospital."
"Hmm," Yun Jingsheng said after a moment's thought, "These two hospitals are quite famous. One is private and the other is public. Both are the best hospitals in Vancouver. Are you considering going to the private or public hospital?"
Chen Song said: "Yes."
With Chen Song's grades, he could get into any hospital. But the treatment was different.
Yun Jingsheng analyzed, "The First Municipal Hospital has a strong academic atmosphere and rich clinical experience. Yile has advanced medical equipment and good salary and benefits. Given your current situation, I suggest you go to Yile."
Yun Jingsheng laughed as he spoke. "Given your penchant for academic research, you might be more inclined towards the First Municipal Hospital. However, from a long-term perspective, Yile is a good fit for you. The current director of Yile is an elder I know, and they offer opportunities for overseas training every year. This opportunity is rare, and occasionally we can combine it with training in Ruoyang."
"You can think about it carefully. When you've made up your mind, send me a message. I can arrange a suitable position for you on either side. Please don't refuse, okay? I just want you to have an easier life. Why complicate something that can be done easily?"
Yun Jingsheng's voice was so gentle that Chen Song couldn't help but feel like it was a gust of spring breeze in the cold winter.
Chen Song raised the corner of his lips: "Okay. I've thought about it and told you. Brother Jing Sheng, thank you for helping me so much."
Expecting Chen Song to stubbornly reject him again, Yun Jingsheng breathed a sigh of relief. He felt Chen Song had changed, becoming more indifferent and resigned. That was good; things were always changing for the better.
Yun Jingsheng said, "When I finish my work here and arrive in Vancouver, it will probably be almost Chinese New Year. Then you can make me a New Year's Eve dinner as a thank you."
Chen Song paused, then smiled and said, "Okay."
The two chatted for a few more minutes about their recent situation and then hung up the phone.
It is now twelve o'clock in the morning. Chen Song just got on the electric bike. A playful whistle sounded on the quiet street, and then a pair of black sneakers came into view.
Chen Song looked up and saw the person coming and said happily, "Lu Yuan. Why are you here?"
Lu Yuan was wearing a light blue coat and black tights. He was about the same height as Chen Song, with a fair and handsome face. The wind blew his hair, making Chen Song vaguely recall his appearance when he was young.
Lu Yuan didn't seem to have changed much over the years, and his bright face was still full of youthful spirit.
"Chen Song," Lu Yuan's eyes moved across Chen Song's face, "You've lost weight... a lot."
Chen Song said gently, "No. It's been so long since we last met that you've forgotten. Why are you here?"
"I didn't see you at your house, so I thought you were still at get off work, so I drove here." Lu Yuan raised his eyebrows at him, "How about it, are you excited when you get off work? Do you love me, Brother Yuan?"
Chen Song was amused. "Hmm... a little bit. Want a midnight snack?"
Lu Yuan said: "Eat, go to your house and eat what you cook."
Chen Song started the car and said, "Okay, where is your car? Come with me."
Lu Yuan followed Chen Song in his Mercedes-Benz as they returned from the small town to the village. For easier parking, Chen Song led Lu Yuan to the open space behind his house. This space had been a park more than a decade ago. Chen Song had occasionally come here to escape Chen Shengping's beatings and scolding.
After parking the car, Lu Yuan took out a bunch of bags from the trunk: "These are the food my mother prepared for you, and there is also the pigeon soup she personally cooked today. They are in the thermal box inside. You can go in and have some later."
Chen Song took a few bags and put them on the electric car: "Auntie and uncle, how are you doing recently? Is everything okay?"
Lu Yuan took out a green date from the bag and took a bite. "It's fine. They're so bored that they keep urging me to find a partner. They don't object to me finding a man anymore. As long as he's a man, they're fine. Hey, why are they so anxious? I'm only 22. They don't care if I find a man or a woman, and I won't have grandchildren. I don't know why they're so anxious."
"Do they think I don't want to?" Lu Yuan muttered as he bit the green dates until they were crunchy. "I do want to, to be honest. If neither of us can find someone in the future, we'll just have to make do. Hahahaha."
Chen Song narrowed his eyes and said, "Okay."
Lu Yuan chuckled twice, and suddenly his eyes lit up. He took a few quick steps forward. "Damn it! I knew that only the big guys lived in the countryside! Why is there a Porsche 911 parked here? It's so cool! I asked my dad to buy it for me, but he refused no matter how hard I begged him."
Chen Song didn't know much about cars, but from what Lu Yuan said, it sounded like it must be very expensive. He drove forward and said, "It should belong to the people in the villa next door."
Chen Song hasn't been home for several years, and several houses around his home have been demolished and rebuilt.
Chen Song led Lu Yuan around a corner and came to his own open space.
The houses in this row were all closed, with only the dim light from the streetlights on either side. Chen Song could vaguely see a dark figure squatting on the steps outside his house. A person was smoking, the sparks from the cigarette making it difficult to make out their features.
Chen Song's heart tightened, and his first reaction was that they were here to collect debts.
There used to be a few thugs standing outside his house, collecting debts from Chen Shengping. Chen Song would inevitably be beaten and scolded. But he was still young, had no money to pay, and had no power to resist. He could only watch helplessly as everything in the house was overturned and smashed, accompanied by his mother's screams and cries.
Young Chen Song was afraid and cried. Young Chen Song was angry and helpless.
By this time, Chen Song had grown up and was no longer afraid. He had the confidence to fight and the courage to redeem his dignity. At this point, Chen Song calmed down again, thought carefully, and after a clear mind, he decided that it couldn't be a debt collector.
When Yu Li remarried a wealthy man, and after Chen Pingsheng was hospitalized, that man helped Chen Shengping pay off all his debts. Logically, he couldn't be a debt collector anymore.
So, who is this person?
Chen Song's car stopped at some point. Lu Yuan admired it in the park for a while before catching up with him. Seeing that he didn't move, he jumped and hooked his arm around his shoulder, jokingly saying, "Honey, you know I walk slowly, so you're waiting here specially."
Lu Yuan cleared his throat and spoke sweetly. The night was so quiet that even the wind stopped, and his coquettish voice echoed in the empty space.
Chen Song's originally tense nerves suddenly relaxed. He couldn't help laughing and looked at him quietly while he was fooling around: "Yes."
Lu Yuan laughed out loud and stared at him suspiciously: "Chen Song, I've been with you for so many years, and I didn't realize you were so reserved and reserved before? How come you've changed now? Everyone knows..."
Before Lu Yuan could finish his words, he was suddenly thrown away by a strong force on his shoulder. Lu Yuan, who was so strong, didn't react in time and fell to the ground.
Chen Song was stunned for a moment, looking at Gu Xingjue who suddenly appeared in front of him. He was so shocked that he couldn't say anything for a while.
Gu Xingjue glared at Chen Song sinisterly, his chest heaving violently: "Chen Song, so you've been keeping someone behind my back for the past three years!"
Gu Xingjue pulled Chen Song by the collar and approached him with red eyes: "I rushed here from Beijing overnight, to this godforsaken place to find you! And you're so happy, having a carefree time with your lover! I didn't even know you were into this! Huh!?"
"These three years! These three years..." Gu Xingjue's voice suddenly became hoarse, like a withered flower. His bloodshot eyes were now covered with a layer of translucent water, filled with a thick layer of emotions that Chen Song couldn't understand. "Have you been wronged in these three years? Haven't you enjoyed following me?"
"Who the hell are you?!" Lu Yuan got up from the ground and threw Gu Xingjue away with all his strength, "How dare you push me!"
Gu Xingjue was pushed and staggered two steps forward, his eyes fixed on Chen Song. He sneered, "I thought you would be played around by Yun Jingsheng if you followed him. But it turns out that you played the two of us around in circles."
Gu Xingjue took a deep breath, and the tension in his eyes slowly relaxed. Chen Song could sense a hint of despair in them.
Gu Xingjue's eyes moved between Lu Yuan and him: "You win, Chen Song."
Chen Song's palms were cold, and a gap in his heart suddenly broke through the cold night wind, making his heart ache and itch. Chen Song blinked as he looked away, unable to hide his heartache and panic.
He must not waver, must not turn back.
You can look back, but you can never go back.
Lu Yuan narrowed his eyes and looked at Gu Xingjue. He was not afraid of this wild wolf Gu Xingjue. From what he said, he could guess that Chen Song and him had a special relationship, probably an ex.
Lu Yuan glanced at Chen Song, then at Gu Xingjue, then he took Chen Song's hand with a smile, raised his eyebrows and said to Gu Xingjue: "Oh, husband, look, he pushed me just now, my hands are all scratched, wuwuwuwu~"
Chen Song: “…”
