Xing Jiashu was the first to discover that Xing Zhaoming and Chen Wei were missing.
That evening, Xing Jiashu noticed it was getting late, so he called Chen Wei to ask what she wanted to eat for dinner. He asked the housekeeper to make it and bring it to her.
Chen Wei didn't answer; she and Xing Zhaoming were still on the plane flying to Lanyuan at that time.
Xing Jiashu's heart skipped a beat, sensing something was wrong, and he immediately called Xing Zhaoming again.
Of course, no one answered.
Xing Jiashu was terrified and dared not delay any longer. He rushed to the hospital, only to find that the ward was already empty.
He quickly went to the nurses' station and asked, "Hello, where is the patient in room 625?"
The nurse checked and found out: "Ward 625? They were already discharged this afternoon."
Xing Jiashu was shocked: "How could she have been discharged from the hospital? I'm her son, and I hadn't heard anything about it!"
The nurse shook her head apologetically and said, "I don't know about that. Anyway, my hospital record shows that it was her husband, Mr. Xing Zhaoming, who signed to pick her up from the hospital."
Xing Jiashu thought back to the afternoon in the hospital room, when his father had insisted on divorcing his mother a moment ago, but then suddenly changed his mind. His heart sank and he became worried: Could his father be thinking of doing something rash?
"Do you know around what time they will be discharged this afternoon?" Xing Jiashu quickly followed up with the question.
The nurse gave a time.
Xing Jiashu was immediately alarmed upon hearing this. It had just happened when he left. Could the old man really be thinking of doing something drastic?
He was so anxious that his hands and feet trembled uncontrollably. He took out his phone and called Wen Sinan: "Hello? Dr. Wen? Do you know that my dad took my mom out of the hospital this afternoon?"
“Of course I know. I’m your mother’s attending physician. Without my signature, your mother can’t be discharged,” Wen Sinan said.
“Do you know where they went? I can’t get through to my dad and mom on the phone. I’m so worried that my dad might do something rash because of my aunt’s situation and take my mom with him…” Xing Jiashu couldn’t help but sob as he finished speaking.
Wen Sinan hesitated. Although Xing Zhaoming hadn't specifically asked her to keep it a secret, he probably didn't want the matter to be revealed so quickly, especially not to Chen Hao. But Xing Jiashu was, after all, their son, and judging from his voice, he had probably misunderstood and was almost crying.
Wen Sinan thought for a moment and then told him the truth: "You can't get through to your parents because they're still on the plane. They've gone to Lanyuan."
Xing Jiashu froze, a sob stuck in his throat, unable to escape or be swallowed back; he felt incredibly uncomfortable.
"Ahem." He coughed lightly, finally catching his breath, and asked anxiously, "Why did they suddenly go back to Lanyuan?"
Wen Sinan paused for a moment, then said, "Your father wants to find a quiet place for your mother to recuperate."
When you go to Lanyuan, you need to find a quiet place to rest and recuperate.
Xing Jiashu immediately remembered a place they had mentioned when they were in the ward. His expression changed instantly: "My dad wouldn't be thinking of... learning from my uncle, would he?"
"It shouldn't be that serious," Wen Sinan said.
“At least she won’t be given freedom anymore, right?” Xing Jiashu asked with a stern face.
Wen Sinan remained silent, which was taken as tacit agreement.
"Why? My aunt has been dead for so many years. Is a living person less important than a dead one?" Xing Jiashu said, both angry and anxious.
"Do you dare say that to Hongfei's face?" Wen Sinan asked coldly.
Xing Jiashu fell silent.
“No matter what, she’s still my mother. I can’t just ignore her. I’ll go to Lanyuan right away,” Xing Jiashu said after a moment of silence.
At this point, there were no more flights to Lanyuan. After much consideration, Xing Jiashu chose to take the train. Coincidentally, it was the same train that Xing Zhaoming had taken to return to Lanyuan before.
The next morning, when Xing Jiashu arrived at the Gao family home exhausted and travel-worn, Xing Zhaoming was having breakfast with the others. As if he had known he would come, a bowl and chopsticks had already been prepared for him next to his chair.
"You're here. Haven't eaten yet? Sit down and have something to eat with us." Gao Hongfei glanced at him and said calmly.
Xing Jiashu stood there, motionless, looking at Gao Hongfei. Thinking of Xing Zhaozhao's matter, he couldn't help but feel a strong sense of guilt. His face burned, and he felt ashamed and embarrassed, unable to face him.
Xing Zhaoming glanced at Xing Jiashu, who was still standing there blankly, and said irritably, "What are you still standing there for? Come and sit down and eat. Do you think you're the boss? Do I have to be begged you three times?"
In the past, Xing Jiashu would certainly not have been polite, but now he just felt embarrassed and wanted to refuse: "No..."
Before I could finish speaking, my stomach rumbled loudly.
Xing Jiashu: "..."
"Tch..." The father showed no consideration for his son's complicated feelings and laughed without any politeness.
Xing Jiashu: "..."
With his face burning with embarrassment, Xing Jiashu decided to go all in and sat down, picking up his bowl and chopsticks to eat. He didn't care anymore; he was already too ashamed.
"Eat quickly, and after you finish, I'll take you to see your mother," Xing Zhaoming said.
Xing Jiashu paused in his movements, suddenly realizing that the food no longer tasted good.
After breakfast, Gao Hongfei arranged a car for Xing Jiashu and Xing Zhaoming and took them to the sanatorium.
The scenery along the way was quite nice.
However, Xing Jiashu's mood soured when the car stopped in front of the small building that stood apart from the surrounding sanatorium complex.
"Dad, is this...?" he asked Xing Zhaoming.
Although he didn't say it explicitly, Xing Zhaoming understood what he meant and nodded: "Yes." It was a place specially built for those two.
"Why was Mom arranged to stay here?" Xing Jiashu asked, puzzled.
Xing Zhaoming glanced at him helplessly, said nothing, and led him straight into the small building.
As soon as I entered, I heard Chen Wei's familiar voice coming from upstairs: "Ah... let me out... let... me... out..."
She wasn't afraid of straining her voice, and her high-pitched voice came one wave after another.
"We originally arranged for her to live in the building next door, but that was too noisy, so we had to move her here temporarily," Xing Zhaoming said.
