"I just went back," Gao Mingcheng said.
"You've gone too far! You kept my mother's illness such a big thing from me!" Gao Hongfei said angrily.
“It wasn’t a big problem to begin with, and she’s fine now.” Gao Mingcheng said, making no attempt to hide his disdain. “You’re not a child anymore, so stop interfering between me and your mother, okay? You don’t mind, but we do mind.”
Gao Hongfei was furious, like a pufferfish: "I am her son."
"I know, if you weren't our son, I would have sent you as far away as possible. Why would I let you keep jumping around in front of us?" Gao Mingcheng said without a trace of emotion.
Gao Hongfei: "..." Is this really something my own father would say?
“Your mother only called me this time, not you, which means she needs me, not you. It’s rare for her to come here, so if you keep bothering us, I’ll have the fire department and the industry and commerce bureau come to your hotel for tea every day,” Gao Mingcheng said bluntly.
When Gao Hongfei heard the first sentence, he already felt heartbroken enough. When he heard the rest, he didn't know what to say. This was his own father, his own flesh and blood, not his stepfather.
"You're ruthless." Gao Hongfei couldn't help but grit his teeth.
"What exactly happened to my mother? Why was she so frightened?" Gao Hongfei straightened his expression and asked about the important matter.
Gao Mingcheng was silent for a moment, then said, "You don't need to know about this. Even if you knew, it wouldn't help her, and it wouldn't help me either."
Gao Hongfei's heart sank, knowing that Xing Zhaozhao was probably facing some difficult situation. He clenched his fists and asked, "Can she handle it?"
"So far, it's considered resolved," Gao Mingcheng said.
"Is that considered it?" Gao Hongfei asked.
"Well, we'll have to wait a few more days and see," Gao Mingcheng said.
"I understand," Gao Hongfei replied, then asked, "Are you still on the mountain? Do you want a driver to pick you up?"
"No need, I'll go back myself," Gao Mingcheng said.
"I understand." Gao Hongfei didn't press the matter and hung up the phone.
By then, they had already left the hospital.
Seeing that Gao Hongfei had finally finished his call, Ying Rongrong asked, "Was that person Xing Zhaozhao?"
Gao Hongfei nodded: "Mm."
Ying Rongrong frowned and said, "I know she looks like my mother-in-law, but no matter how much she looks like her, she is not my mother-in-law. It's one thing for Dad to treat her as a substitute, but why are you having this old problem again?"
“She’s my mom,” Gao Hongfei said, looking intently at Ying Rongrong.
Fearing she wouldn't believe him, Gao Hongfei took out his phone and showed her the photo of Xing Zhaozhao with the three children that he had forced to get from Gao Mingcheng: "This is a photo of my mother and my two siblings. This is my younger brother Hongyu, this is my younger sister Hongling, and this is me next to her."
Ying Rongrong looked at the photo with a look of surprise and doubt.
She knew that in Gao Hongfei's childhood, in the countryside, it would have been impossible to take such a photo. Her family had never had one. Gao Hongfei's younger brother and sister had died when they were very young. After all these years, she wondered if Gao Hongfei still remembered what his younger brother and sister looked like. Plus, there was a face next to him that looked almost exactly like Xing Zhaozhao. No matter how she looked at it, she thought the photo was really too strange.
Ying Rongrong looked at Gao Hongfei and asked, "Did Xing Zhaozhao give you this photo? Is it photoshopped?"
Gao Hongfei: "..."
Gao Hongfei took the phone back from Ying Rongrong's hand expressionlessly: "Never mind, I know you won't believe me."
After saying that, he looked at the driver beside him and instructed, "Take Madam home."
"And what about you, Chairman?" the driver asked.
"I'll have Xiao He come pick me up and take me back to the company," Gao Hongfei said, already making a call to his assistant.
Ying Rongrong assumed that Gao Hongfei was just repeating his old habits, and didn't want to get entangled with him any longer. She got into her car and left first.
Gao Hongfei waited at the hospital entrance, and soon his assistant, Xiao He, arrived and took him away.
After getting into the car, Gao Hongfei remained silent for a long time before suddenly looking at Xiao He, the assistant driving in front, and asked, "I remember Xiao He, you seem to be a top student who graduated from Peking University, right?"
Assistant Xiao He nodded with a smile: "The chairman remembers correctly."
"You've been by my side for about 5 years now, haven't you?" Gao Hongfei continued to ask.
Assistant Xiao He nodded again: "Yes."
"Would you be interested in helping me take charge of a company?" Gao Hongfei asked.
Assistant He's eyes lit up. He quickly glanced at Gao Hongfei sitting in the back through the rearview mirror and asked, "Is the chairman planning to start a new company?"
Gao Hongfei nodded: "Yes."
"What company?" Assistant He asked curiously.
“A technology company,” Gao Hongfei said.
Assistant Xiao He was taken aback and asked in confusion, "Doesn't Zhaohong Group already have a technology company under its umbrella?"
“The one I want to drive is different,” Gao Hongfei said.
"How is it different?" Assistant He asked.
"This person is mainly responsible for researching cutting-edge technologies," Gao Hongfei said.
Assistant Xiao He frowned and asked, "What kind of cutting-edge technology?"
Gao Hongfei's eyes flashed, and he said, "For example, time travel."
Assistant Xiao He: "..." This company seems a bit unreliable.
