Xing Zhaozhao was somewhat surprised to hear the familiar voices of her children coming from outside. What was going on today? It wasn't even dark yet, and these little rascals had actually decided to come back?
She went out and opened the door, only to see Chen Hao standing outside with a beaming smile, and Chen Wei beside him looking reluctant. She paused for a moment, then her face revealed undisguised disgust: "Why are you two here?"
Chen Hao's smile froze instantly, then turned into a bitter expression. She truly disliked them.
He couldn't help but glare at Chen Wei beside him again. It was all because of his troublesome younger sister.
Chen Wei caught her brother's look and felt wronged. Was he blaming her again? Didn't he see Xing Zhaozhao's expression at all? Was that how you treat a guest? Absolutely no manners. Sure enough, that country bumpkin is just a country bumpkin, utterly uncouth.
Since her true colors had already been exposed, she no longer bothered to hide them. Whatever she was thinking was written all over her face, which Xing Zhaozhao and Chen Hao saw clearly.
Chen Hao's face darkened, and he couldn't help but clutch his chest, feeling like he was about to have a heart attack from anger. He really wanted to crack open her head to see what was inside.
He began to consider whether it would be better to let them separate, so that they wouldn't not only torment each other, but also cause trouble for their innocent family members.
"I'm sorry." Chen Hao smiled apologetically at Xing Zhaozhao, pulled Chen Wei aside, and scolded her impatiently, "Didn't we agree on this at home? Now that you're here, why are you suddenly making a fuss?"
Chen Wei glared at her brother: "Where did I cause trouble? I didn't say a word before. You're my brother, my own brother, how can you make false accusations?"
"Then who are you giving that look to?" Chen Hao said impatiently, arms crossed.
Chen Wei stamped her foot and said, "Then I just don't like her, I can't pretend, can you blame me? Dad taught us to be honest since we were little, have you forgotten?"
Chen Hao laughed in anger: "Now you're talking to me about honesty? You're two-faced with Xing Zhaoming, why don't you know how to be honest?"
"I...I..." Chen Wei stammered, then said somewhat exasperatedly, "What do you know? That was a white lie."
"..." Chen Hao had no idea where she got so many twisted arguments from. He rolled his eyes and said, "I think what you're doing is just being unreasonable."
Chen Wei's eyes reddened as she looked at Chen Hao accusingly: "Whose brother are you anyway? You're taking her side, but not mine."
Chen Hao said disappointedly, "If I weren't your brother, why would I have brought you all this way? If you really don't want to be with Xing Zhaoming anymore, then let's go back now, get a divorce, and go our separate ways." After saying that, he indeed pulled Chen Wei to leave.
Chen Wei, on the contrary, was unhappy and held onto Chen Hao tightly: "I won't leave, and I don't want to divorce Zhaoming."
Chen Hao looked at her seriously: "Then you'll listen to me obediently."
Chen Wei hesitated for a moment, then nodded in agreement, "I understand." However, her face still showed reluctance.
Chen Hao felt utterly exhausted. If it weren't for his own sister, he really wouldn't want to get involved.
Chen Hao took Chen Wei back.
There was no one at the entrance now.
When Chen Hao went inside, he saw four little guys, each with a piece of watermelon, squatting in a row under the eaves, munching away. Even the black dog, who was already half-grown, had a piece and was pawing at it with its two paws, trying to eat it.
Xing Zhaozhao came out of the house carrying Xiao Hongling. The little girl was also holding a small corner of watermelon in her hands. The seeds had already been removed, and she was sucking on the sweet juice. She was so happy that her eyes narrowed.
"Finished discussing? Speak up, what is it?" Xing Zhaozhao looked at Chen Hao and Chen Wei and asked directly.
Chen Hao smiled apologetically and said, "I just found out that Weiwei did some things to you that weren't very nice. I brought her here to apologize to you." After saying that, he gently tugged at Chen Wei to remind her.
"I'm sorry," Chen Wei apologized, but there was little sincerity in her expression.
Xing Zhaozhao didn't care and said calmly, "There's no need. If you don't like it, you don't like it. There's no need to force it. Just be the same as before. Even ordinary people get along based on fate, let alone family. We don't have that fate, so that's fine."
Chen Wei was delighted, but turned to her brother with a reproachful look: "Look, no one else said anything, but you're always nagging."
Chen Hao felt utterly helpless. Fine, he'd only been meddling.
"Where is Zhaoming?" Chen Wei asked Xing Zhaozhao directly.
“They went into the mountains,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
Chen Wei frowned and asked, "What are you going into the mountains for?"
“An ancient tomb has been discovered in the mountains and is being excavated. My brother went to help,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
"It has nothing to do with him, why is he meddling in other people's business?" Chen Wei couldn't help but complain. Seeing the little ones eating watermelon with relish, she also felt a little envious. She licked her lips, looked at Xing Zhaozhao, and asked, "Is there any more watermelon? Give me a piece too."
Xing Zhaozhao wasn't going to indulge her now: "That's all."
Chen Wei frowned, disbelieving, and said, "I think they only ate a few pieces. It's impossible that they've all gone, right?"
"I said it's gone, and that means it. If you want some, go buy it on the black market, but whether you can still find it is another matter," Xing Zhaozhao said irritably.
Chen Wei pouted in anger. Country folks are just country folks; they don't know any hospitality at all.
She looked to Chen Hao for help: "Brother, take a look at her."
Chen Hao was speechless. She disobeyed her brother earlier, but now she knows to come to him? And where does she get the confidence that asking him will help with this?
Xiao Jiaping ate half of it, looked at his mother, then at the remaining half of the watermelon in his hand, hesitated for a moment, and handed over the watermelon in his hand: "Mom, you can have mine."
Moved, Chen Wei hugged her son tightly and kissed him hard, saying, "My good son, you're such a precious baby." Then, she took the watermelon from her son and started eating it.
Chen Hao's temple twitched: "You actually ate it?"
As Chen Wei ate, she glanced at Chen Hao and said, "My son is showing me respect, why shouldn't I eat it?"
"Are you really going to miss that little bite from the child's mouth?" Chen Hao asked.
“But I really want to try it,” Chen Wei said matter-of-factly.
Chen Hao: "..." Fine.
Xiao Jiaping didn't mind, but seeing his older and younger brothers still eating, he was a little tempted.
Seeing this, Xiao Jiashu shared half of his food with his younger brother: "Here, let's eat together."
Xiao Jiaping happily accepted it: "Thank you, brother."
Chen Hao was very pleased to see the two brothers behaving so well together; the children were quite good. In contrast, their mother…
Chen Hao shook his head, deciding it was better not to say anything.
Seeing the little ones eating so happily, Chen Hao licked his dry, chapped lips and looked expectantly at Xing Zhaozhao. He didn't want the watermelon anymore; could he at least get a bowl of cool boiled water?
Xing Zhaozhao turned and left.
Chen Hao: "..." Well, I won't even get any boiled water to drink today.
