A short while later, Xing Zhaozhao came out of the house with three watermelons in her hand, one large and two small. She gave the large one to Chen Hao, and the two small ones as compensation to Xiao Jiashu and Xiao Jiaping.
Chen Hao was flattered and could hardly believe his eyes: "Is it really for me?"
Xing Zhaozhao said expressionlessly, "Forget it." After saying that, she was about to take the watermelon back.
Chen Hao quickly snatched it away: "I didn't say I didn't want it." Then, he took a big bite. It was sweet and slightly cool. It must have been soaked in well water. It was so refreshing to eat.
Xiao Jiashu and Xiao Jiaping both looked delighted: "We have more?"
Xing Zhaozhao smiled and patted their heads: "This is to make it up to you."
Xiao Jiashu and Xiao Jiaping were overjoyed: "Thank you, Auntie!"
Hongfei and Hongyu stared intently at Xing Zhaozhao with their bright, dark eyes.
"What about me and my brother, Mom?" Hongyu asked.
“You’ve all eaten quite a bit. Children aren’t allowed to eat too much. You can eat the rest tonight,” Xing Zhaozhao said sternly.
"Alright then." The two little ones lowered their heads regretfully, but didn't clamor for more.
Chen Wei was displeased and glared at Xing Zhaozhao: "Didn't you say it was over?"
Xing Zhaozhao glanced at her: "It's gone."
"What are they eating?" Chen Wei asked, looking at the two children and the watermelon in Chen Hao's hand. She could understand the children, but why did her brother get one while she didn't?
Chen Hao: "..." Do you have any conscience? This is supposed to be your own sister.
“I said no, so no; I said yes, so yes. It’s my watermelon, I decide what to do with it. What’s the problem?” Xing Zhaozhao said, looking at Chen Wei with a cool gaze.
Chen Wei was so angry that she was panting heavily: "Is this how you treat guests who come to your home? Don't you have any manners?"
“That’s how I treat guests I don’t like. Your brother knows that too. It’s not like I invited you here,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
Chen Hao: "..." What did he do to deserve this?
Chen Wei was furious: "Why don't you like me?"
Xing Zhaozhao: "..."
Chen Hao: "..."
Xing Zhaozhao looked at Chen Hao with a questioning gaze. "Is your sister stupid?"
Chen Hao silently ate his watermelon. Don't ask me, I don't know her.
Xing Zhaozhao looked at Chen Wei: "I'm not being pathetic, why would I like someone who doesn't like me?"
Chen Wei was speechless for a moment, and could only stare at Xing Zhaozhao with her bloodshot eyes.
"Why are you here?" Xing Zhaoming's surprised voice suddenly rang out from the doorway.
Xing Zhaoming and Gao Mingcheng returned from the mountains.
As soon as Chen Wei saw Xing Zhaoming, her eyes reddened, and she rushed over, crying out, "Zhaoming..."
When Xing Zhaoming saw Chen Wei's aggrieved look, he subconsciously softened and was about to ask what happened when he heard Chen Wei complain to him: "Your sister bullied me."
Xing Zhaoming's heart sank. As Chen Wei approached and was about to throw herself into his arms, he took a step back and dodged her.
"Zhaoming?" Chen Wei looked at Xing Zhaoming in disbelief.
They've been married for so many years, and their relationship has always been very good. Even though Gao Mingcheng lost his temper with her and left with the child because of Xing Zhaozhao, she felt that things would get better after a while and there was no need to worry too much. She didn't pay much attention to her brother bringing her here to apologize to Xing Zhaozhao, and Xing Zhaoming's talk of separating was just talk.
At that moment, Chen Wei suddenly felt uneasy. Something seemed off.
Xing Zhaoming looked at Chen Wei with a cool gaze and asked, "How did she bully you?"
Chen Wei quickly put her unease aside and, between sobs, began to complain to Xing Zhaoming: "They all got to eat watermelon, but she wouldn't give me any, and she even said she didn't like me..."
"Is there a problem?" Xing Zhaoming asked.
Chen Wei froze, looking up at Xing Zhaoming in disbelief: "What...?"
"You didn't like her to begin with, and she didn't like you either, isn't that obvious? What's the problem?" Xing Zhaoming asked.
"But...but..." Chen Wei wanted to explain, but couldn't come up with a coherent explanation.
Xing Zhaozhao greeted Gao Mingcheng: "Why are you back so early today?"
"We've done everything we could, so we won't need to do anything else and we're coming back now," Gao Mingcheng said, glancing at Chen Hao who was still sitting to the side eating watermelon, and greeting him, "Long time no see."
After finishing the watermelon, Chen Hao casually tossed the rind to General Hei, then looked at Gao Mingcheng and said with a faint smile, "It really has been a long time."
"You made a special trip here this time because..." Gao Mingcheng turned to look at Chen Wei, who was still entangled with Xing Zhaoming.
Chen Hao also looked over and sighed heavily in resignation.
"What do you mean, Xing Zhaoming? Are you really planning to abandon your wife and children for your sister?" Chen Wei glared at Xing Zhaoming and questioned him sharply.
Jia Shu and Jia Ping, who had been silently eating watermelon, looked over with concern, their little faces filled with anxiety. This wasn't the first time they had witnessed their parents arguing.
Xing Zhaozhao saw this, frowned slightly with worry, and gave Hongfei a wink.
Hongfei glanced at his mother, then at his two cousins who were in a bad mood beside him, and understood. He pulled Xiao Jiashu and Xiao Jiaping aside and said, "Have you finished eating? Come on, let's go inside and play with our toy cars."
Xiao Jiashu and Xiao Jiaping were still sad when they heard Hongfei mention the little car that could run on its own. Their eyes lit up, and after hesitating for a moment, they followed him inside.
Hongyu actually wanted to watch the excitement from outside, but seeing that his brothers had all left, he didn't want to be left behind, so he followed them.
“I do not reject children,” Xing Zhaoming said.
Chen Wei felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck her, leaving her completely dizzy: "So, you really don't want me anymore? Just for Xing Zhaozhao?"
"Back when we were looking for each other, I told you long ago that Zhao Zhao is my only sister, and I definitely couldn't abandon her. I had to take good care of her, and you agreed at the time. I didn't even need you to treat her like your own sister, or even just to give her a nice look out of respect for me so she could stay at home more comfortably. But what happened? You said one thing to my face and another behind my back, fooling me and causing me to drift apart from Zhao Zhao. How can I tolerate this?" Xing Zhaoming looked at her with disappointment and asked.
"Who told you to always be thinking about her, even more than I am? I just don't like her, why should I put up with it?" Chen Wei shouted.
“I’ve always been like this. If you didn’t like it, you should have told me sooner,” Xing Zhaoming said coldly.
"If I had told you sooner, you would never have chosen to marry me, right?" Chen Wei said, tears welling up in her eyes.
"So you chose to lie to me. You've lied to me for so many years, it must have been quite tiring, right? In that case, why don't we get a divorce? Then you won't have to suffer like this anymore," Xing Zhaoming said.
Chen Wei panicked upon hearing this: "Don't even think about it. You can only get a divorce if I'm dead."
