Xing Zhaozhao, carrying a large wild boar and surrounded by children, prepared to descend the mountain.
Suddenly, I heard arguing coming from not far away.
"Give me the rabbit," the rough, raspy voice, still going through puberty, said fiercely.
"No, this is my rabbit." The soft voice carried an unwavering determination.
Xing Zhaozhao recognized the voice all too well; it was Pandi's. She frowned, changed direction, and walked toward the sound.
"This rabbit clearly ran into a tree and died on its own, how did it become yours?" the rough voice protested.
“I found it first, so it’s mine,” Pandi insisted.
"Everyone who sees this gets a share, give it to me."
"No."
"You have to give it to them whether they want to or not."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a "thud" was heard, as if someone had fallen to the ground.
"Don't bully your sister." Two other childish voices followed.
Then I heard a series of "bang bang bang" sounds, as if a fight had broken out.
When Xing Zhaozhao arrived, she saw the three Pandi sisters pinning a tall boy to the ground and beating him. He looked like Gao Jiabao, the eldest son of the eldest brother. Gao Meimei and Gao Jiabei, the siblings, were also there, just standing by and watching their brother get beaten.
Xing Zhaozhao shook her head speechlessly, then casually threw the wild boar she was carrying on her shoulder onto the ground with a loud "bang," which shook the ground.
The people who were wrestling immediately turned around and looked over.
Upon seeing Xing Zhaozhao, the three Pandi sisters' eyes lit up. They quickly scrambled to their feet, not forgetting the rabbit they had run into, and ran over with it, saying, "Second Aunt, look! We found a rabbit!"
"You're lucky." Xing Zhaozhao smiled and nodded, but when she noticed Pandi's swollen face, her expression darkened. She looked at Gao Jiabao, who was getting up from the ground looking disheveled, and scolded him, "You're so big, is this all you're good for? Go work in the fields if you have the strength. What kind of man bullies his sister?"
Gao Jiabao was still unconvinced and pointed at the three Pandi sisters: "They ganged up on me."
"If you hadn't attacked them first, would they have united against you? You still have the nerve to bring that up? Aren't you ashamed?" Xing Zhaozhao said coldly.
When Gao Meimei saw Xing Zhaozhao, she burst into tears: "No, Auntie, they stole our rabbit first."
Xing Zhaozhao couldn't help but roll her eyes: "I'm neither blind nor deaf. I know who stole whose rabbit first. You're not my grandma, I don't buy your act. You're trying to play the villain in front of me, it won't work."
Gao Meimei's expression froze instantly.
Xing Zhaozhao ignored her, picked up the wild boar again, looked at the three Pandi sisters, and said, "Let's go, let's go down the mountain and share the pork."
The three sisters couldn't help but cheer.
"Did you hunt this wild boar, Second Aunt?" the youngest daughter, Lai Di, asked curiously.
"Mm." Xing Zhaozhao nodded.
"Will I be as amazing as you when I grow up?" Lai Di asked again.
"No way. If you want to be as amazing as me, you'll probably have to wait until your next life," Xing Zhaozhao said.
Lai Di: "..."
As Gao Jiabao and Gao Meimei watched Xing Zhaozhao and her group leave, resentment appeared on their faces in unison.
Gao Jiabei, completely unaware, skipped and hopped after Xing Zhaozhao, saying, "Let's share the pork!"
They were almost halfway up the mountain, their homes just ahead, when Captain Gao suddenly arrived in a flurry with a group of villagers, armed with hoes, shovels, and sickles: "Where's the wild boar? The wild boar is..."
Before they could finish speaking, they spotted the wild boar being carried on Xing Zhaozhao's shoulder. They were all stunned, their mouths agape, and the hoes and shovels in their hands clattered to the ground.
When Xing Zhaozhao saw Captain Gao arrive, she casually put the wild boar down and said, "Captain Gao is here. Perfect timing. Here, take this wild boar. You can carry it down yourselves."
Captain Gao finally came to his senses, swallowed hard, walked up to Xing Zhaozhao, reached out and touched the big wild boar to confirm it was real, and still asked in disbelief, "Ming...Mingcheng's wife, did you...did you hunt this wild boar?"
Xing Zhaozhao nodded: "We met by chance when we took the children to the mountains to pick wild vegetables."
Captain Gao frowned and asked with concern, "Where did we encounter them? Will we face any dangers when we go into the mountains in the future?"
“We’ve gone quite deep into the area. If we’re just on the outer perimeter, we’re still safe,” Xing Zhaozhao said.
Captain Gao was relieved. After estimating the weight of the wild boar, he said to Xing Zhaozhao, "Since you hunted it, I'll leave you 100 jin of meat to do with as you please after it's slaughtered."
Someone nearby objected, saying, "Isn't 100 jin too much? With so many households in the village, if the rest of the meat is divided up, each family won't get more than a few jin."
Captain Gao glared at him and said irritably, "This was caught by Mingcheng's wife. You're eating meat for free and you're still being picky. If you're so capable, go and catch a wild boar this big and I'll give you a hundred catties."
The man immediately fell silent.
"If you think it's not enough to eat, you can ask Mingcheng's wife. She definitely can't finish a hundred jin (250 kg). You can exchange grain or buy it with money, either way is fine. I won't allow anyone to take advantage of us for free." After Captain Gao finished speaking coldly, seeing that no one dared to say anything more, he looked at Xing Zhaozhao and asked, "Mingcheng's wife, what do you think of this arrangement?"
Xing Zhaozhao hadn't originally planned to accept it, but since someone was being greedy, she wouldn't rush to give it away.
“Captain Gao is always the most fair, and I will listen to him.” Xing Zhaozhao looked at Captain Gao with a smile and said, “But as for the meat, 50 catties is enough for me, along with the wild boar. I also caught nine piglets, and I want to keep them all.”
Upon hearing that there were also piglets, some people became envious.
Those piglets didn't look very big, but I'd estimate they weighed about ten or twenty pounds. Nine piglets, minus their heads, would weigh at least a hundred pounds.
However, this time Captain Gao didn't give them a chance to speak: "No problem, if anyone has any objections, they can come to me, but they won't get any meat today."
Everyone immediately fell silent.
"Thank you, Captain Gao. The wild boar is right there. You can move it down. I'll take the children home first." Xing Zhaozhao smiled and thanked Captain Gao before going home.
Captain Gao turned to the villagers who had come with him and said, "What are you all standing there for? Go and move the pigs!"
A few people went over and tried it, then looked at Captain Gao with flushed faces: "We need to call some more people, Captain Gao."
Captain Gao: "..."
Captain Gao couldn't help but roll his eyes. After thinking for a moment, he went over and knocked on Xing Zhaozhao's door, smiling apologetically, "I'll have to trouble you again, Mingcheng's wife..."
