When Dong Cang returned home, his face was deathly pale and he looked terrible. His mind was filled with the image of Dong Cheng lying in a pool of blood, his face ashen, as if he were dead. He was so frightened that he almost bumped into the old lady Wu next door who was up early in the morning.
"How do you walk? Don't you have eyes? Are you in such a hurry to be reincarnated?" Old Mrs. Wu started scolding.
Dong Cang was completely unaware and just kept going.
This was the first time Old Mrs. Wu had seen Dong Cang not argue back after being scolded. She glanced at the rising sun in the east and muttered, "What's wrong with him?" Then she turned to look at Dong Cang curiously, but was suddenly startled by his pale face. She instinctively cursed, "Where did he go and encounter a ghost?" Then she laughed happily, "Serves him right, karma has come."
After saying that, she turned around and went back into the house to gossip with her daughter-in-law.
The Dong family was quiet at this time; no one had gotten up yet.
Dong Cang returned to his room and lay down on the bed. Despite it being the middle of summer, he was shivering. Even though he curled up, he couldn't escape the chill emanating from within.
He was trembling, and somehow drifted off to sleep.
In a daze, he suddenly heard someone calling him: "A-Cang, A-Cang..."
It was just a short distance behind us.
He dared not turn around; it was his brother's voice. He might already be dead.
“A-Cang…”
Dong Cheng's voice suddenly rang in his ear, and a hand slapped onto his shoulder.
Dong Cang was startled and turned his head sharply, only to be met with Dong Cheng's blood-soaked head, his eyes wide open and his face contorted in a ferocious expression. Dong Cheng grabbed Dong Cang's neck with both hands and demanded, "Why did you hurt me, Cang?"
Dong Cang struggled desperately in fear: "I didn't, I didn't, I didn't mean to! You deserved to be followed like that..."
"A-Cang, what's wrong? A-Cang? Don't scare your mother! Honey, come quick, something's wrong with A-Cang."
Upon hearing Dong's mother's voice, Dong Cang suddenly opened his eyes, sat up abruptly, and kept his hands still in the position of choking himself. He was covered in sweat, and his shirt was soaked through.
Mr. Dong rushed over upon hearing the noise and was shocked to see Dong Cang's appearance: "What happened?"
"I don't know either," said Mrs. Dong, wiping away her tears.
By this time, Dong Cang had slowly come to his senses. He looked around and, seeing no trace of Dong Cheng, realized that it had all been a dream.
However, thinking of the terrifying scene in his dream, he was still shaken and turned around to hug his mother, saying, "Mom, I'm scared."
Mrs. Dong patted her son's back reassuringly and said, "It's okay, it's okay, it's probably just a nightmare, don't be afraid."
Dong Cang was still afraid and hugged his mother, sobbing softly.
Mr. Dong couldn't help but roll his eyes in disgust: "What a disappointment."
Mrs. Dong glared at Mr. Dong: "He's still a child."
Although Mr. Dong felt sorry for his youngest son, he couldn't help but scold him: "He's 18, how is he young? At Acheng's age, he's already working in a textile factory and making money."
Mrs. Dong also doted on her youngest son, but she couldn't bear to hear Mr. Dong compare him to his eldest son. Her youngest son had a sweet tongue and was good at handling things; he was just young now, but he would definitely make a lot of money when he grew up.
"Where the hell is Ah Cheng? His little brother is so scared, and he doesn't even come to comfort him. You heartless bastard!" Dong's mother scolded.
Upon hearing the word "death," Dong Cang trembled violently.
Oblivious to everything, Mrs. Dong was still calling out at the top of her lungs, "Acheng, Acheng..."
Dong Cang's ears were ringing loudly, and he couldn't help but tug at his mother's clothes: "Mom, stop yelling."
Ignoring her, Aunt Dong continued calling, "Acheng, Acheng..."
Dong Cang was annoyed and shouted angrily, "Stop shouting, he's not coming!"
Dong's mother and father were both taken aback and turned to look at them in confusion.
"What do you mean? What do you mean he won't come back? Do you know where he went?" Mr. Dong asked.
Dong Cang clutched his head: "He's probably dead. I killed him..."
Mr. and Mrs. Dong were immediately terrified and turned pale: "What happened?"
In front of his parents, Dong Cang no longer hid anything and told them everything about how he conspired with Liu Feiyue to steal things from the Fu family, how he secretly went to find Liu Feiyue, how Dong Cheng followed him and caught him red-handed, how he was dragged to turn himself in, how he was unwilling and subconsciously took action.
Mrs. Dong slapped Dong Cang on the head: "That gold bracelet, your sister-in-law will bring it home as part of her dowry when she marries into the family. Both of them will belong to our family. You still conspired with outsiders to steal it? Are you stupid?"
Dong Cang: "..." Is that the point?
