Chapter 359 Four Boxes Are Missing

Gao Mingcheng stood at the door and knocked. He heard a series of hurried footsteps coming from inside, followed by the voices of his two little ones: "Hurry, hurry, it must be Daddy coming home."

Upon opening the door, sure enough, the two little ones immediately hugged him tightly. Hongyu even climbed onto Gao Mingcheng's back in a few quick movements, wrapped his arms around his neck, and asked eagerly, "How did it go, Dad? Did you catch that thief?"

Gao Mingcheng, holding his eldest son's hand with one hand and supporting his youngest son's bottom with the other, entered the room: "Of course."

"I knew it!" Hongyu exclaimed excitedly, then couldn't help but regret, "If only I could have gone with them."

Yesterday, he actually tried to sneak off with Gao Mingcheng and Zhao Bin, but unfortunately, he was discovered by Gao Mingcheng and dragged back before he got very far.

Gao Mingcheng patted his little bottom and said, "We'll talk about it when he's a bit older and has practiced his skills."

"But we might not have that opportunity again then," Hongyu said dejectedly, her little head drooping on her father's shoulder.

Hearing the noise, Xing Zhaozhao came out of the house carrying Xiao Hongling: "You're back."

Upon seeing his wife and daughter, Gao Mingcheng's eyes immediately softened, and he nodded, "Mm."

When Little Red Riding saw her father, she reached out her arms straight for him, saying, "Hug, hug..."

Xing Zhaozhao wanted to send the child there.

Gao Mingcheng quickly waved his hand: "I've been lying in the woods all night. Let me take a shower and change my clothes first."

The little girl thought her father didn't want her anymore, and tears quickly welled up in her beautiful eyes.

Gao Mingcheng felt sorry for his daughter, so he quickly drew two buckets of water from the well, rinsed her off, took a quick shower, and carried her to him.

Little Red Riding Hood turned her head away, ignoring him. "You didn't want me before, and now I don't want you either."

It took Gao Mingcheng a while to coax the little girl back to her senses.

"Gurgle," Gao Mingcheng's stomach suddenly growled.

"Didn't you have breakfast?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.

"Before we could even react, Liu Feiyue and his group arrived," Gao Mingcheng said. After that, there was no time to think about it anymore.

Xing Zhaozhao went to the kitchen and cooked him a bowl of noodles, poached two eggs, and cut a piece of braised beef.

Gao Mingcheng finished the whole thing in one go.

"Liu Feiyue has been caught red-handed this time, so he shouldn't be able to cause any more trouble, right?" Xing Zhaozhao asked.

Gao Mingcheng nodded: "It should be dealt with severely."

"Oh, right, and that Dong Cang..." Gao Mingcheng then told Xing Zhaozhao about his encounter with Fu Hong and Lu Xuemei at the Public Security Brigade.

Xing Zhaozhao thought of the old lady Liu she had met once before, her eyes flashed, and she said, "That's quite a coincidence. I hope that after this, Dong Cheng can wake up a bit and not waste Fu Hong's good intentions."

“If you can’t wake up after something like this, there’s no point in continuing. It’s not worth it,” Gao Mingcheng said calmly.

"Yes." Xing Zhaozhao nodded and asked, "Have all the boxes from that tomb robber's hole been moved back?"

Gao Mingcheng shook his head: "How could that be? There are only two of us. Zhao Bin will send someone over to move it later. I reckon I'll have to take them into the mountains again."

Xing Zhaozhao thought of something, bit her lip lightly, and asked with some worry, "We brought those four boxes back from my godparents' house ahead of time. If they don't match Liu Feiyue's testimony, will Captain Zhao...?"

Gao Mingcheng patted Xing Zhaozhao's hand reassuringly and said, "Don't worry, Zhao Bin knows what he's doing."

In the afternoon, not long after they had finished eating, the public security brigade arrived. The leader was a young man who greeted Gao Mingcheng with a smile and asked, "Hello, are you Comrade Gao? My name is Wei Junjie. Our captain sent me to bring some men to find you and go into the mountains to retrieve stolen goods."

Gao Mingcheng nodded and said, "I understand. I'll go get some things and then I'll go with you."

Gao Mingcheng went back and got a backpack, with two little tails following behind him.

Hongyu, who was about to take a nap, started to pester her father when she learned that he was going to go upstairs again.

Hongfei naturally sided with his younger brother.

"I want to go too, Daddy, take me back, take me..." Hongyu tugged at Gao Mingcheng's clothes, her little body almost twisted into a pretzel.

There are many people going into the mountains this time, so it's not impossible. However, Gao Mingcheng didn't dare to make the decision himself and looked at Xing Zhaozhao for advice.

Noticing their father's gaze, Hongyu and Hongfei immediately turned to look at Xing Zhaozhao, their voices trembling with affection as they rushed over, calling out, "Mom~~~ Mom~~~"

Xing Zhaozhao found it annoying and quickly waved her hand, "Go away, go away, it's an eyesore."

The two little ones couldn't help but cheer.

“However…” Xing Zhaozhao hadn’t finished speaking.

The smiles on the two little ones' faces froze instantly, and they looked at Xing Zhaozhao nervously.

"Since you were the ones who insisted on going in, follow your father. You'll come out the same way you went in. No help from your father. Otherwise, I won't allow you to go into the mountains again," Xing Zhaozhao warned, arms crossed.

The two little ones' expressions froze. They hesitated for a moment, glanced at each other, then turned to look at their father. Gritting their teeth, they resolutely nodded in agreement: "Okay."

When they came out of the mountains, it was already evening, and the sun was about to set.

The two little ones, who had been excited when they first entered the mountains, now walked unsteadily, their eyes wide open. Finally, they arrived home. Looking at the familiar courtyard, the two little ones' tense nerves finally relaxed. They plopped down on the ground and fell asleep immediately. Even when Black General ran over and licked their faces with saliva, he couldn't wake them up.

Good, they persevered. However, things should be quiet for a while now. They shouldn't be clamoring to go into the mountains anymore for a short time.

Xing Zhaozhao and Gao Mingcheng exchanged a smile, each carrying one of the two little ones into the house.

In the public security brigade, Wei Junjie put all the boxes he had brought back from the mountains into the warehouse.

Zhou Haomin took Liu Feiyue's statement and checked it. He quickly discovered something was wrong: four boxes were missing.

He went to find Wei Junjie, who was wolfing down his rice: "Have you brought everything back? Did you forget anything?"

While eating, Wei Junjie shook his head and said, "No, everything is there."

After saying that, he looked at Zhou Haomin's suspicious eyes and his face darkened: "What? You suspect I'm dishonest?"

Zhou Haomin shook his head and said, "I know you don't know how, but according to the list Liu Feiyue gave us, there are indeed four boxes missing."

"Could it be that someone else did it?" Zhou Haomin asked.

Wei Junjie shook his head and said, "I was the first one to go down, and the count was done on the spot. There couldn't be any problem."

"I'll go ask the captain," Zhou Haomin said, and went to Zhao Bin's office.

Having barely slept a wink last night and having spent the entire day helping out, Zhao Bin was finally able to relax and was now fast asleep at his desk.
