Chapter 2 Discharged from the Hospital and Returning Home

The next morning, Xing Zhaozhao packed her things and prepared to be discharged from the hospital and go home.

Aunt Hao came over to bring her food. Upon seeing her, she asked in surprise, "Are you being discharged from the hospital, Zhao Zhao?"

During the few days that Xing Zhaozhao was hospitalized to give birth, the Gao family was completely deserted; not a single person could be seen. It was Aunt Hao who had to travel a long way every day to bring her food.

The Hao family lived next door to the Gao family.

Uncle Hao and Aunt Hao are both honest people.

Their two sons grew up following Gao Mingcheng around, and their relationship was exceptionally good.

Later, Gao Mingcheng helped their eldest son, Hao Jianguo, find a formal job at the town's scrap yard. Old Mrs. Gao wanted to take the job and give it to her eldest son, but Gao Mingcheng refused, which led to some unpleasantness between them.

Later, when their youngest son, Hao Jianjun, reached the appropriate age, Gao Mingcheng also brought him into the army.

The couple were always extremely grateful to Gao Mingcheng, and out of love for him, they took extra care of Xing Zhaozhao.

Not to mention, Gao Mingcheng knew that his family was unreliable and extremely selfish when he sent Xing Zhaozhao back to give birth. When they were useful, they would praise you to the skies and treat you like a goddess, but when they were useless, they would trample you into the mud and spit on you. So he specially asked Aunt Hao to help keep an eye on them.

When Xing Zhaozhao saw Aunt Hao arrive, she smiled and replied, "Hey, Auntie's here. You've almost fully recovered, there's no need to waste money staying in the hospital any longer."

Aunt Hao gave her a reproachful look: "You should have told me first. It's autumn, the weather is getting cool, and you just gave birth and are still in your postpartum period. Going back like this without any covering up, how can your body take it? You're young now, so it doesn't matter, but when you get older, you'll suffer."

As she spoke, Aunt Hao handed Xing Zhaozhao the lunchbox that she had been holding in her arms, wrapped in a cloth: "You eat breakfast first. I'm going to find your Uncle Da Han. He came to town on business today. I just hitched a ride on his tractor. When we go back later, I'll ask him to give us a ride."

After saying that, Aunt Hao turned around and left quickly without waiting for Xing Zhaozhao to say anything.

Xing Zhaozhao opened the bundle and took out the still-warm lunchbox inside, her nose feeling a little sore.

It takes almost an hour to walk from the village to the town, but this time taking a tractor will be a little faster. Aunt Hao delivers three meals a day on time, and they are always hot.

When the lunchbox was opened, it contained a bowl of bright yellow millet porridge. The fine grains that she usually couldn't afford to eat were being given to her.

Xing Zhaozhao ate her breakfast slowly, one bite at a time, and her mind couldn't help but wander back to her past life.

In her past life, she only stayed in the hospital for less than three days. She heard that the two elders of the Gao family were arguing about dividing the family property and refused to take care of her two sons, their own grandsons. They kicked her out of the house. She couldn't bear it any longer and dragged her battered body home. Then came one compromise after another.

Aunt Hao also tried to help her, time and time again.

But you can never help someone who doesn't want to stand up.

She can't stand on her own two feet, no matter how much help others give her.

Later, it seems that the Hao family also encountered some trouble.

What happened?

Xing Zhaozhao tried hard to think, but couldn't remember.

At that time, she had lost two children in succession, and she was completely numb, with no time to care about other people's affairs.

However, it won't happen in this lifetime.

Aunt Hao returned excitedly: "Alright, Zhao Zhao, I've already spoken to your Uncle Da Han. We'll wait for him at the hospital entrance later, and he'll come to pick us up."

After saying that, Aunt Hao's eyes sparkled, and she raised the military overcoat in her hand for Xing Zhaozhao to see: "Look, Zhaozhao, what did I bring back for you?"

"A military overcoat? Where did it come from?" Xing Zhaozhao asked in surprise.

"Your Uncle Da Han heard you were taking the baby back and was worried you'd get cold on the tractor, so he specially borrowed this. Wrap it up when you get on the tractor so you won't catch a cold," Aunt Hao said.

Xing Zhaozhao turned her head and glanced at the bright sun outside: "...No need."

Aunt Hao insisted, "Yes, you should. Even though the sun is shining brightly outside and the autumn wind is chilly, you should think about the children, even if you don't think about yourself."

Upon hearing Aunt Hao mention the child, Xing Zhaozhao immediately relented: "...Alright."

As it turned out, Aunt Hao's insistence was justified.

There was no shelter in the back of the tractor, and sitting on it, you could hear the wind whistling in your ears. She felt a little cold even with the wind blowing, let alone little Hongling who had just been born.

As they approached the village entrance, Xing Zhaozhao suddenly spotted a group of children fighting in the distance, with a large group surrounding... two?

Xing Zhaozhao has sharp eyes. Although they were a bit far apart, she recognized them at a glance. The two people surrounded in the middle were her sons, the eldest, Hongfei, and the second, Hongyu.

Hongfei is 8 years old this year, and Hongyu is only 5 years old. Although the two little guys are not very old, they have already practiced with their father in the army. They are very skilled in every move. Even when surrounded by so many children, they remain calm and composed, back to back, with a good balance of offense and defense.

However, two fists can't fight four hands, and both little ones ended up with bruises on their faces.

However, the others fared even worse, watching helplessly as the slightly older Hongfei punched them one by one. Some had bruises in their eyes, some had nosebleeds, and some were knocked to the ground, hitting their mouths and screaming in pain.

As they got closer, Aunt Hao noticed something was wrong: "Why are these brats fighting again? They never seem to have a moment's peace. Wait, aren't those two in the middle Hongfei and Hongyu? These brats are going too far. How can so many people be ganging up on just two people? Da Han, stop right there. I'm going to teach those brats a lesson."

Da Han quickly parked the tractor at the village entrance, right next to where the group of kids had been fighting.

"Hey, what are you bunch of brats doing?" Aunt Hao shouted angrily, rolling up her sleeves as she was about to go downstairs.

Xing Zhaozhao grabbed Aunt Hao's arm and said, "It's alright, Auntie."

"How can nothing be wrong? Hongfei and Hongyu are being beaten, and you, as their mother, don't even seem worried?" Aunt Hao said, unable to contain her anxiety.

Xing Zhaozhao smiled dismissively and said, "It's really nothing, it'll be over soon."

Before Aunt Hao could react, she heard a loud, hearty laugh from the driver's seat: "Good lad, no wonder you're Mingcheng's son, just as ruthless as your father."

When Aunt Hao looked over again, she saw that all the boys who had been surrounding Hongfei and Hongyu were now lying on the ground, covered in various injuries. Although Hongfei and Hongyu were also injured, compared to them, this was definitely a worthwhile outcome.
