Chapter 18
Xun Jiang glanced at the two people happily showing off their fruit and had a strange feeling that he shouldn't be there.
The two seemingly heartless people looked more and more alike, both possessing a ruthless and heartless sense of resolve. If he hadn't been Xin Ran's neighbor since childhood and known that his parents hadn't left any other orphans before their deaths, he would have seriously suspected that Chi Xia was Xin Ran's long-lost younger sister.
"I never imagined that your student would be the eldest son of the Yu family, the most powerful family in the New Territories." Xun Jiang awkwardly tried to start a conversation.
Xin Ran: "You're not bad either. The young master of the Yu family calls you Dad."
Xun Jiang laughed, "You've overrated me. If I really had a son like that, I'd be happy to stay home. But we know the nursing home bombing is related to the Yu family, and we also know that Xiao Di awakened his talent at six years old. Could the Yu family silence him?"
After eating her fill of fruit, Chi Xia got up and stood by the window. The large expanse of lush green lawn was pleasing to the eye. "No way."
The organization that killed her to silence her has already disbanded. Besides, only the top two on the assassin list could kill her; anyone else would just be offering themselves up.
Xin Ran also said, "Just give us a large sum of hush money. We have a lot of professional ethics. Besides, Xiao Di is your godson. Killing your father will cause serious psychological trauma to the child."
Xun Jiang: "Then the head of the Yu family may have to meet with us in person later."
Chi Xia: "I don't know if we'll get a meeting or not, but our dinner is here."
A short while later, the mobility scooter in the middle of the lawn stopped downstairs, the food cart was pushed into the elevator, and with a "ding," the food cart came closer and closer to the living room.
After the sumptuous meal was laid out on the luxurious round table, the head servant stood respectfully to the side and spoke.
"Teacher Chi, Teacher Xin, Dr. Xun, this was arranged by the young master. Is there anything else you need?"
Xinran: "Open two bottles of whiskey."
Maid: "Okay."
The servants left, and the three were about to start eating when Xiao Di arrived, pulling along his grandparents.
Grandpa: "Xiao Di told us everything. Thank you all for your kind help."
The three stood up to greet him, and Xin Ran smiled enigmatically: "Although it wasn't our intention, we have indeed learned a lot. How does the Yu family plan to handle this?"
Grandma Xiaodi took out three black cards from her pocket. "This is Xiaodi's reward for you three. Thank you for saving Xiaodi. We will handle Yu's matter ourselves. Please help the Yu family for Xiaodi's sake."
The words were spoken very humbly. Grandma Xiaodi was in politics and held a high position, so it was clear that the person who went to the nursing home to offer condolences was her. Grandpa Xiaodi was in business; he was the one who built the Yu family's business empire. However, he was not in power now; it was Ye Feng's father. He stood kindly beside his wife and did not say much.
Xun Jiang smiled and squatted down, and Xiao Di rushed into his arms. Overwhelmed with fatherly love, Xun Jiang rubbed the back of Xiao Di's head. "Xiao Di and I are very destined. I have no wife or family, and such a cute child calls me Dad. I have to protect him no matter what. As for Teacher Xia and Teacher Xin, you two can rest assured. They are educators. Their character and conscience have been tested. They are not the kind of people who would use a child to gain any benefits."
Xun Jiang spoke earnestly, while Chi Xia expressionlessly accepted the three black cards handed to her by Xiao Di's grandmother and stuffed them into her pocket. "The most reliable relationship in this world is based on interests. We'll take the money; this means you have leverage over us."
Xin Ran smiled seductively, "With hush money, we'll keep our mouths shut. Shall we sit down and have a meal together, you two?"
Xiao Di's grandparents exchanged a glance, and Xiao Di smiled, "Let's eat, I'm hungry."
When Ye Feng arrived with Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao, a large group of people were having a pleasant meal. Grandpa Xiao Di poured wine for Xin Ran and the other two, saying, "Stay here tonight. Tomorrow, Xiao Feng will go to school, so the two teachers will go with him. I'll have the housekeeper escort Dr. Xun."
Xiao Di and Xun Jiang sat together, serving each other food and chatting and laughing, just like a loving father and filial son.
Chi Xia didn't talk much during the meal, but Xin Ran chatted with Grandpa Xiao Di, and their ideas were quite compatible. It seemed like they had accidentally met a friend despite their age difference.
Xin Ran: "You're too kind, Elder Yu. I've long admired the Yu family for building such a large estate. I'm honored to meet you today."
Grandpa Xiaodi: "You flatter me, Teacher Xin. It's not all my achievement. My grandfather has accumulated experience in this area. Even my amazing wife was chosen for me by my grandfather."
Xun Jiang was three-tenths drunk, his face slightly flushed. "It's so good to have Grandpa arrange a marriage for me. Unlike me, who's like searching for a needle in a haystack, finding a wife is harder than climbing to heaven."
As he spoke, Xun Jiang subconsciously glanced in Chi Xia's direction.
Ye Feng noticed Xun Jiang's blatantly ingratiating gaze and pushed open the door without warning, saying, "Grandpa, could you introduce someone to Dr. Xun when you have some free time, so he won't see everyone as his wife and children?"
Grandma: "Xiaofeng, watch your step."
Grandpa: "Xiaofeng, what brings you all here?"
Cheng Mo: "Grandpa, braids... Teacher Xia is our homeroom teacher, we should at least come over and say hello."
Chi Xia swallowed the food in her mouth and glanced at the three people who had just arrived. "Sit down, we have things to do after we finish eating."
The three sat down, and Feng Xiao looked at Chi Xia's white shirt and laughed, "Teacher Xia isn't wearing her uniform. Aren't you going to make a home visit?"
Chi Xia: "Even without that uniform, you still have to call me teacher, right?"
Feng Xiao: "..."
Cheng Mo laughed, "Why does Xiao Zi have to make things difficult for herself? You've seen Teacher Xia's abilities before."
Xin Ran was chatting happily with Grandpa Xiao Di when she heard Cheng Mo's words and frowned slightly.
Feng Xiao smiled indifferently, raising her hands in surrender. Her grandmother's sharp gaze swept over the three of them, her tone cold and hard, "I don't see you being unruly at school, and you have no manners at home either. Are you asking for a beating?"
Feng Xiao suppressed her smile and quickly ate her rice. "Grandma, I was wrong."
Chi Xia glanced at the three who instantly became well-behaved. The old lady of the Yu family was indeed a prominent figure in the political arena. Her supreme authority even made the school's troublemakers give her some leeway.
Grandma: "Teacher Chi, let's exchange contact information later. If these three rascals cause trouble at school, contact me and I'll take care of them."
Chi Xia nodded, "Yes, Madam."
Ye Feng glanced at Chi Xia seemingly casually, then whispered to the person beside him, "I don't think I did anything to you, teacher?"
Chi Xia also lowered her voice, "If you dare, you can try."
Ye Feng didn't speak again and ate quietly, but the corners of his lips remained turned up and didn't come down.
After the meal, Xin Ran and the old man went to the tea room to chat, Grandma went back to rest, Xun Jiang was taken around by Xiao Di, and Chi Xia and Ye Feng and others went to Ye Feng's "territory".
Ye Feng's residence was also in the west and was not open to the public. As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, the unique smell of disinfectant and medicine hit him, and the condensed fluorescent lights were very dazzling.
Cheng Mo: "Teacher with braids, there are many mutated creatures in Yefeng. I saw last time that you were very knowledgeable about them. Shall we show you around first?"
Walking down the enclosed corridor, Chi Xia glanced at the place, which resembled a laboratory more than a residence, and looked at Ye Feng, "What do you like about mutated creatures? Obedient and docile or gentle and sensible?"
Reaching the end, Ye Feng pushed open the door to the largest laboratory. "Teacher, are you curious? Why don't we explore it together?"
Chi Xia stopped, her eyes turning cold. "Ye Feng, don't try anything funny with me."
Ye Feng also became indifferent, "I don't understand what the teacher is saying."
Chi Xia glanced at Cheng Mo and Feng Xiao, "You two wait at the door."
Feng Xiao looked puzzled. "Why, teacher? We want to see it too!"
Chi Xia didn't bother with any more words. In the blink of an eye, she grabbed Ye Feng by the collar, dragged him inside, kicked the two doors shut, and then looked at Ye Feng coldly, "Lock the doors."
Ye Feng didn't resist, smiling lazily, "What are you doing, teacher?"
Chi Xia let go of him. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to. There are some things I don't want to say too clearly. If you want to embarrass yourself in front of your friends, then I don't suggest you call more people over to watch."
Ye Feng straightened his collar, locked the door as Chi Xia had instructed, and before he could turn around, he launched a sweeping kick, which Chi Xia caught with one hand. Ye Feng then threw a powerful punch, which Chi Xia easily deflected. Swift as the wind, the two figures exchanged more than a dozen blows, fighting their way from the doorway to the passageway in the middle of the room.
"Teacher, you are indeed an extraordinary person."
Chi Xia used the momentum to push Ye Feng aside, saying, "You have no secrets in my eyes, and this is not how you use your talent."
Ye Feng's expression faltered for a moment. Now that the two of them were alone in the room, there was nothing to hide. He dusted off the corner of his clothes and asked, "When did you find out?"
Chi Xia: "Your younger brother awakened his talent at the age of six, how could you, his older brother, be weak?"
Ye Feng smiled and said, "Teacher, since this is a confession session, let's not beat around the bush."
Chi Xia: "People who have awakened their talents have pupils that are different from ordinary people. Do you dare to take off your colored contact lenses and look me in the eye?"
As expected, he was exposed. Ye Feng approached, looking down at Chi Xia, who was squeezed between two pieces of experimental equipment. His height advantage, coupled with the aloofness and indifference he inherited from his grandmother, made him extremely intimidating. "Teacher, you know too much."
Chi Xia looked up at him, disdainful of such childish suppression, and sneered, "What can you do? You can't beat me anyway."
Ye Feng laughed and stepped back a few paces. "Since you know, teacher, let's be frank. I'm investigating the Demon Fishing Academy. If you're willing to cooperate with me, you'll have some control over the Yu family's power in the future."
Chi Xia tugged at the wrinkled corner of her clothes. "You talk as if your Yu family is so popular. I'm not interested in what you're saying. I just want to find a stable job. As long as you don't disrupt my class, I won't bother you for no reason."
What if I were interested in you, teacher?
"Little friend, your teacher is not a mutated creature for you to study."
A hint of amusement flickered in Ye Feng's eyes. He put his hands in his pockets, exuding a casual yet somewhat threatening air. "Teacher, if I were to investigate you, how long do you think you could keep your past a secret?"
Chi Xia: "Why are you investigating the Demon Fishing Academy?"
