Chapter 20
“Beep, beep, beep!”
"Warning! A car accident has occurred 200 meters ahead!"
The road back to the city from the Yu Family Manor was long. The car, which was being driven by GPS, was quiet. After a while, the three of them started to fall asleep, taking their pretense for real.
At this moment, an alarm sounded inside the car.
Chi Xia and Xin Ran opened their eyes at the same time. With almost no time to catch their breath, Xin Ran turned off the self-driving mode and gripped the steering wheel that popped out, while Chi Xia lowered the window and leaned out to check the situation.
This is a straight mountain road, the only one connecting the Imperial Family and the city.
Xin Ran glanced at Chi Xia through the rearview mirror, a half-smile on her face, "Teacher Xia is quite alert."
Chi Xia saw that Xun Jiang was still fast asleep in the passenger seat. Normal people would not wake up instantly while sound asleep, and even if they were awake, they would not be able to handle an emergency so quickly.
"Teacher Xin is not bad either."
"Should we say hello to your student? He's got a lot of guests at his house tonight, so they don't all block the road?"
"Let's go take a look first."
The car was stopped by police officers fifty meters from the scene of the crime. The road ahead was completely blocked by two vehicles that had crashed head-on and were now mangled. Xin Ran and Chi Xia got out of the car together. The police officers asked for their identification documents for inspection while explaining the situation to them.
"The two drivers collided, resulting in one death and one injury among the passengers. The investigation into the party primarily at fault is still ongoing. Please return to your vehicles and wait while we collect evidence."
The police officer handed the two men their identification documents back and patiently explained the situation.
Xin Ran asked timidly, "Excuse me, have the wounded and the bodies been sent to the hospital? It's late at night, and I'm a little scared."
The officer glanced back at his teammates who were busy collecting evidence and treating the injured. “The medical team hasn’t arrived yet. We are the guards stationed here. We need to act quickly. If you’re scared, go back to the car.”
Chi Xia: "Did the people in the car call the police themselves?"
Does this imply that there were no other passing vehicles?
The officer frowned as he looked at the person in front of him, instinctively feeling that something was amiss with the question.
Xin Ran immediately came over with a smile and lowered his voice, "Sorry, officer, we have some friends who are also coming here tonight for a banquet. We need to inform the vehicles that are coming later when we get back to the car, so we asked a few more questions so that they don't think we're joking."
The officer nodded. "I see. Don't worry, we were notified that there's a banquet here tonight, and we've already informed the organizers."
Xin Ran, with his arm around Chi Xia's shoulder, was about to return to the car—
"Bang!"
The deafening explosion and powerful shockwave nearly sent the three people flying. The police officer lost his footing and was supported by Xin Ran and Chi Xia, taking a few steps before regaining his balance.
"Thank you," the police officer said quickly.
Xin Ran and Chi Xia exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with unspoken tension and mutual wariness. They both immediately released the police officer's arm.
Xun Jiang then ran out of the car. Flames were shooting into the sky. Xin Ran and Chi Xia were so close to the fire that they were terrified when they saw what was happening in front of them.
When the officer turned around, his teammates were groaning in pain. He looked at Chi Xia and the others with difficulty, "Could you three please do me a favor?"
Xun Jiang nodded quickly, "Hurry up, I'm a doctor."
Two police officers were killed. The two officers were each responsible for one vehicle and were checking for flammable materials inside. Three people were seriously injured. If this officer had not come to stop the vehicle, he would probably be lying on the ground unable to move like the three seriously injured officers.
Xin Ran looked across the fire and asked, "Officer, where are the owners and passengers of those two cars?"
The officers looked over and saw that only the dead man was still lying on the ground. They had just told them to wait for rescue on the opposite side of the road. The officers immediately sensed something was wrong and called the communications department to report the situation to headquarters.
Chi Xia: "Officer, you assist Dr. Xun with the rescue. My friend and I will go over there to see what else is left at the scene."
Officer: "This... is too dangerous. You stay here, I'll go."
Xin Ran pressed down on his shoulder, "Your teammates will feel much more at ease looking at your face. Don't worry, I've learned some self-rescue skills and know how to avoid danger."
The officer, seeing his teammate covered in blood and nearly fainting from the pain, had no choice but to nod in agreement.
Xun Jiang helped pull the people out of the fire, then immediately took a first-aid kit from his car, checked the condition of the three people one by one, and quickly gave them emergency treatment.
Xun Jiang: "Given the current conditions, I'll temporarily treat their inflammation and stop the bleeding. We need to arrange surgery for the internal damage as soon as possible. Have you notified the medical team?"
Police officer: "We notified them, but more than half an hour has passed and they still haven't come."
Xun Jiang: "That shouldn't be the case. It's in the middle section of Yusheng. If there's no traffic, it should only take twenty minutes to get here."
The police officers had no idea what was going on. The road was deserted, with nothing but them on both sides. There was nothing in the dark night, not even a glimmer of light, whether it was flying in the sky or running on the ground.
"Wow!" One of the officers coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Xun Jiang quickly examined him again, "Internal organs are torn. He can only hold on for another hour at most. I remember that police officers are not allowed to have mechanical organs implanted now, right?"
Police officer: "Yes, a torso prosthesis can be used, but a mechanical organ cannot. To be honest, mechanical organs have developed to the point where they can affect brain cells. A police officer's brain cannot be controlled by a machine; that would be irresponsible to the public."
Xun Jiang nodded, "Then I'll wait another fifteen minutes. If the rescue still hasn't arrived, I'll perform the surgery here, and you can assist me."
The officer nodded heavily, took out his handkerchief, and wiped the bloodstains from the faces of his teammates one by one.
On one side of the fire, Xin Ran and Chi Xia, wearing masks and each carrying a fire extinguisher, were spraying the flames. The fire extinguishers were taken from Xun Jiang's car; Xun Jiang, as expected of an attending physician at a top-tier hospital in the New Territories, had all the necessary emergency supplies in his car.
The fire was brought down in just a few minutes. The terrifying thing about biological fire suppression is that the hundreds of millions of cooling bacteria not only cool down the fire quickly, but each bacteria is also a living water pump. When heated, they expand and turn into water instantly. The key is that they do not damage any other objects.
Chi Xia lowered the nozzle and sprayed the wreckage of one of the vehicles. As the airflow cleared away some debris, a familiar object was revealed. She leaned closer to the fire extinguisher and took out a tissue to pick it up.
Xin Ran swiftly extinguished the flames that were about to reach Chi Xia, putting out the last remaining embers in a few moves. He then leaned over to look, "A mirrorless Rubik's Cube?"
Chi Xia wiped the little gadget in her hand. It wasn't too hot, so it didn't seem to be damaged. "I remember that every teacher in our academy had one."
Xin Ran nodded, took off her mask, looked at Chi Xia, and whispered, "I think that police officer is a bit slow. Should we help him?"
How do you want to help?
Xin Ran took the mirrorless camera cube and stuffed it directly into her pocket.
Chi Xia looked at him with amusement. "There are two possibilities: either you're in cahoots with those who escaped, or you have a complicated background. Be honest, otherwise I can't guarantee my safety."
Xin Ran smiled, her eyes sharp as blades in the night when she looked up. "Teacher Xia is too modest. From the first moment I saw you, I knew you were the extraordinary one."
Chi Xia clapped her hands and stood up, extremely calm. She said lightly, "Teacher Xin is really joking."
Xin Ran stood up and laughed shamelessly, "I was just kidding. Let's look again and see if there's anything else. We can't leave the police officers with no evidence at all."
