Chapter 756: The Unusual Driver
Twenty minutes later, Gu Hua looked at the unfamiliar street in front of her, blinked, and called out, "Driver, have we taken the wrong road? This isn't the way back to the city!"
The driver maintained his speed and said with a smile, "Young lady, you can't tell she's from around here. The road back to the city is congested during rush hour! We're taking a side road now! It's not congested, and we'll get to the city faster! Don't worry, I'll make sure you get home safely and on time!" With that, he stepped on the gas and sped up.
"Master, I'm not in a hurry, please drive slowly!" Gu Hua shouted, gripping the handrail tightly. She glanced behind the car and saw no other vehicles. The roadside was becoming increasingly empty.
"It's alright! This place is quite remote, there aren't many people here! Don't worry! If we drive faster, we can get there sooner! And you can get back sooner, right?" The driver said as he accelerated.
Seeing this, Gu Hua stopped talking and disturbing him, and instead gripped the handrail tightly.
"Screech!!" The tires screeched as they scraped across the road, and the car came to a sudden stop. Gu Hua's body was slammed against the front seat, and she felt a sharp pain in her chest.
Gu Hua grimaced and rubbed her chest, speechless. "Driver! How do you drive?! I just got my license! It hurts so much!"
The driver opened the car door and said with a helpless smile, "The car is out of gas! I have to go get some! I just realized it, look, there's a gas station over there, I went to check it out, and I was afraid I'd miss it, so I braked suddenly. Are you alright?"
Gu Hua glared at him and said, "So fast? Do you think there's anything wrong or not?"
The driver chuckled awkwardly, "Isn't it because I'm in a hurry? Um, there's a convenience store over there, why don't you go rest there and grab something to eat?"
Gu Hua frowned, about to refuse, when her phone beeped. She glanced at it, then nodded, "I'm thirsty, I'll go buy some water. Hurry up and order, don't delay! The roast duck will be sold out!"
Seeing that she was willing to get out of the car, the driver's face immediately became enthusiastic: "Buy more! Take whatever you like to eat, it's on me! Consider it an apology for earlier!"
Gu Hua got out of the car: "...You're quite generous. Alright, go ahead and get busy." After saying that, she walked towards a small shop that looked like a shady business.
Gu Hua was truly amazed to find such a shop in a place like Beijing.
As she approached the door, Gu Hua peered inside. It was pitch black and completely empty; she couldn't see anything further inside.
"Boss! I want to buy some water!" Gu Hua called out inside.
"Coming! Just a moment!"
Gu Hua looked inside and saw a man in his forties walking out with playing cards in his hand.
"Hey girl! What are you buying?" After saying that, she called out again, "Just a moment, a customer is here! I'll attend to them! What's the rush! Don't change the brand, I'm telling you!"
Gu Hua glanced at the shelf and said, "Buy two bottles of mineral water!"
The owner came over, rummaged through the shelves, and handed two bottles to Gu Hua: "These are all expired. Who would buy this water? Everyone likes to drink milk tea. Do you want a cup? Although it's not as good as the milk tea from the shops, it's still sweet! Do you want one?! It's not expensive! Only 9 yuan a cup!"
As she spoke, she took out a bottle of milk tea that looked like a counterfeit or substandard product.
Gu Hua looked at the murky milk tea, wondering what had been added to it, and shook her head in refusal: "I only want mineral water, nothing else."
Seeing her like this, the shopkeeper sighed, "Alright, I knew kids wouldn't drink this stuff, what's the point of buying it, old woman! Come with me inside and get it! You just wait at the door!" With that, he walked inside.
Gu Hua checked the date and it was indeed expired. Seeing the boss walk inside, she picked up her phone, glanced at it, and then followed him.
The boss saw her follow him in out of the corner of his eye, smiled, and when he reached the doorway, he said with a smile, "You can just wait here. It's not appropriate for you to go in. I'll go get a case of new mineral water, you can choose one yourself!"
Gu Hua nodded, and the others went inside.
