Chapter 24 Shu Yu Shopping
When the old lady heard that Shu Yu had returned to Shangshi Village, she felt relieved.
She admitted to being a little selfish, fearing that Shu Yu would leave and never return, and that without the money for the consultation, the second son's leg would not be able to be treated.
The old lady quickly instructed Da Niu, "Take good care of Miss Shu, and don't rush the carriage, understand?"
"Grandma, I know," Da Niu assured him. "Don't worry."
It was getting late, and everyone was quite hungry after all that running around. The old lady had brought coarse flour buns from home as provisions, and she had also brought the leftover meat from yesterday, specifically for Shu Yu to eat as a side dish. She and Da Niu ate it with pickles.
Of course, she wanted to prepare something for Shuyu, but she simply didn't have anything good to offer, so she had to make do.
Shu Yu refused, telling the old lady to eat the meat quickly or it would spoil. She then got up to go out, saying, "I need to go for a walk in the street. I'll be back in a bit."
Shu Yu didn't go far; she ate a bowl of noodles at a street stall outside.
Then she went to the rice shop. The Lu family probably didn't have much food left yesterday, and since she was going back to Shangshi Village, she naturally had to buy some food.
To be honest, she actually had a good appetite, but she was too embarrassed to eat much at Lu's house.
Shu Yu bought a bag of rice and a small bag of flour. Thinking that yesterday's dishes didn't have much oil, she also bought a small bottle of oil and went to the market to buy a piece of pork.
This body suffered from severe hunger as a child, and now she doesn't want to mistreat herself.
Shu Yu didn't bring a basket; her hands were already full with just these few items, and she couldn't carry any more.
But as she passed the grocery store, she couldn't help but think of the Lu family's bowls, which were full of dents and cracks. Last night, the food was plentiful, and Sanya ate too quickly and didn't notice that her lip had been cut.
Shu Yu couldn't resist and went in to buy a few more sets of bowls and plates.
Although I don't have much money, my shopping desire is just irresistible.
She needed to find a way to make money as soon as possible. Not only would Lu Erbai need money to treat his leg, but if she were to be exiled again in three months, she would also need to spend a lot of money on bribes.
Shu Yu surveyed the vast county town, pondering how to make a fortune in a short period of time.
I'm carrying some heavy things, so it seems I'll have to find another opportunity to do market research and such.
Shu Yu returned to the clinic with rice, flour, oil, and meat. Lu Erbai had already woken up and was eating the food prepared by the clinic. The consultation fees that Doctor Xu mentioned also included the cost of accommodation and meals.
However, although the accommodation fee was saved for the elderly woman who was being cared for, she still had to pay for her own meals.
The old lady was taken aback when she saw what Shu Yu was carrying. "Miss Shu, what are you..."
"Oh, I just had a craving, so I bought some food."
The old lady's eyes were complicated. She said that, but since she brought it back to the Lu family, everyone would definitely eat it together.
Miss Shu is such an honest person. The second son saved her life, so she's not only repaying him, but the entire Lu family.
But the old lady had her own selfish reasons. There really wasn't much food left in the house. She could accept Ruan Shi's situation, but she also hoped that Da Hu and San Ya could have one more good meal.
So she didn't say much. Seeing that it was getting late, she asked Da Niu to bring out the oxcart so they could hurry back to Shangshi Village.
Shu Yu spoke with Dr. Xu separately and asked him to prepare the old lady's meal as well, which she would pay later when settling the consultation fee.
It's not much of a difference anyway, why make the old lady do more work?
