Chapter 23 Shu Yu's Plans
Dr. Xu hummed in agreement, glanced at the group again, and finally fixed his gaze on Shu Yu.
"Since you're going to treat me, I have to say something upfront. My consultation and medicine fees aren't cheap, as you've probably already heard. Not to mention setting the broken bones, the follow-up care will also cost money. Let me give you an estimate: a complete cure will cost no less than fifteen taels of silver."
Before Shu Yu could speak, both the old lady and Da Niu gasped sharply.
Fifteen taels?
This is something they couldn't afford even if they sold it.
The old lady thought that six or seven taels would be enough at most, and that her family could scrape together the money if they worked hard and gritted their teeth.
Judging from what Doctor Xu said, fifteen taels is the minimum, and there might be more to come.
This leg injury is beyond the reach of ordinary families; it's simply outrageous.
Ignoring their reactions, Dr. Xu realized that Shu Yu was in charge, so he told her, "Don't worry, although the consultation fee is not low, the medicine I use for him is all good medicine, and I guarantee that his leg will be completely cured."
The old lady hurriedly asked, "Can we use cheaper medicine instead?"
Shu Yu stopped the old lady, "No, just use good medicine. Don't worry about the consultation fee. Doctor Xu, please proceed with the treatment. Here is five taels of silver. Please begin, Doctor Xu."
"Shu..." The old lady wanted to say more, but Shu Yu shook her head at her, "Uncle Lu's leg can't be delayed any longer. Only when his leg is healed will his life get better and better in the future."
Dr. Xu nodded, "This young lady is right. Only after her leg is healed can she have a future."
He beckoned, and the medicine boy came over, and together with Da Niu, they carried Lu Erbai inside.
Shu Yu and the old lady were outside, while Da Niu was inside helping out.
Just thinking about having your bones knocked out and reattached is enough to make you understand how painful it is.
The current anesthetic powder is really not very effective. When Lu Erbai's screams came from inside, the old lady was so frightened that her legs went weak.
Shu Yu, quick-witted and agile, hurriedly helped the person up, saying, "Let's go sit over there for a while."
The soundproofing here isn't very good; you can hear it not only inside the clinic but also on the street outside. Shu Yu even saw a passerby flinch and look suspiciously into the clinic.
After a while, Da Niu came out first; he had been driven out by Doctor Xu. His face was deathly pale, as if he had suffered a great shock.
The old lady poured him a glass of water, which he gulped down before speaking with lingering fear, "Grandma, it's alright now. Dr. Xu said that Uncle's leg has been reattached and they're stabilizing it. However, Dr. Xu said that Uncle can't move right now, and it's best for him to stay at the clinic for the next few days until he's more stable before going back."
"Stay at the clinic?" The old lady frowned, thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll stay and take care of him today. Da Niu, later you take the oxcart back to the village chief's house and tell your second aunt."
"OK."
The old lady then looked at Shu Yu again, "Miss Shu, what are your plans?"
"I'll go back to Shangshi Village too." She went to Shangshi Village very late yesterday and there were still some things she didn't know. Since the old lady and Lu Erbai had stayed in the county town, she would go and inquire again.
However, what Shu Yu didn't know was that it was precisely because she had this idea that the Lu family's misfortune was prevented from happening again.
