Chapter 492 The Pen Outside the Window
Shu Yu ate two small vegetable buns, and then went to her room to rest with her family.
They were still divided into two rooms, one for the old lady and the other for the Shu family girls.
Both rooms had large communal beds, which were enough for them to lie down and rest.
As Shu Yu and her group entered, the head officer glanced at them, especially at the Shu family members, and said in a warning tone, "Get some rest now. We have to travel early tomorrow morning. Don't cause any trouble tonight, or I won't be so lenient."
The Shu family members remained silent, too terrified to speak.
After the official left, they glared fiercely at Shu Yu. But they were exhausted after a long day and didn't have the energy to do anything, so they could only utter harsh words.
"Just wait and see. That couple only gave us five taels of silver, which won't last more than a few days. Once that five taels of silver is gone, let's see how good your life will be."
No sooner had the eldest daughter finished speaking than the second daughter's voice followed, "I told you long ago, you'll suffer sooner or later on this journey of exile, all alone. I'm waiting to see what happens to you."
Shu Yu looked at the two of them. Wow, these two daughters, who were like oil and water in the prison, were now united against her, their 'adopted daughter'.
She indeed bore a great responsibility, which deepened their sisterly bond.
Shu Yu sighed, rubbed her stomach, and said, "Dinner was pretty good, I'm so full."
Then, ignoring them completely, he climbed to the innermost part of the communal sleeping area and lay down.
The Shu family members were so angry they were grinding their teeth, but they dared not make too much noise. Besides, they were all really exhausted today, and the youngest Shu girl was already lying in bed with her eyes closed, as if she could fall asleep at any moment.
The others gave up, figuring they'd just wait and see. It was only the first day; Shu Yu's future might be even worse than theirs.
The group climbed into bed to prepare for sleep.
The dormitory-style bed can sleep about ten people, but there were only seven of them in total, and two of them were young, so there was still a lot of space.
No one wanted to get close to Shu Yu; they all kept their distance from her, leaving at least two empty seats next to her.
She couldn't be happier; she was glad to have some peace and quiet.
As darkness fell, the room quickly became quiet, and the person on the bed gradually calmed down.
Perhaps they were too tired, because some of them even started snoring.
Shu Yu wasn't tired; she could manage fifty miles, especially since the shackles weren't heavy, and after eating and drinking her fill, she still had plenty of energy.
She couldn't sleep and was feeling homesick.
I wonder if business is good at the shop today. When the old lady sees the two thousand taels of silver she left behind, she'll definitely scold her. She might save the money and wait for her to come back.
I really want to see them, but it will be at least six months, or even longer.
This was her first time traveling away from home, and she was so worried about everything.
She was lost in thought when she suddenly heard a soft 'creak' sound.
Shu Yu snapped back to reality and looked towards the window. Sure enough, the window was ajar.
Her heart jumped. Could it be that those officials really wanted to come in and do something?
The thought had barely formed when the crack in the window widened slightly, and a calligraphy brush was thrust in from outside, then... it swayed left and right.
Shu Yu: ? ? ? ?
Wait, a calligraphy brush?
Shu Yu seemed to have thought of something and slowly got up.
She was still chained, so even her slightest movements made some noise.
