Chapter 82 requires corn kernels.
Shu Yu kept her word and went straight to the kitchen after speaking to Bao Ya.
The others immediately followed out of curiosity, even the usually composed Da Niu pretended to be nonchalant and lagged behind.
However, the Lu family's kitchen was small, and the old lady and several others were already inside. If everyone else went in, there wouldn't be enough room to turn around.
Shu Yu then said to everyone, "You all sit in the main room for a while. I'll bring it over when it's ready. It'll be quick."
That's what they said, but children have a weak resistance to things that taste even better than Gao Gao, and none of them wanted to leave, so they all stopped outside the kitchen.
Da Hu was quicker, entering the kitchen even before Shu Yu, and then said with a serious face, "Second Sister, I'll start the fire for you."
Sanya was a step too slow, pouting and stomping her foot. How could her brother do this? He wouldn't even let her do the work of tending the fire.
Shu Yu found it amusing and walked into the kitchen, instantly drawing the attention of the others inside.
Looking at Shu Yu's state and then at her daughter at the door, Li felt even worse after the comparison.
"Er Ya, what are you doing in the kitchen? Your grandma doesn't let you come, saying you can't cook. It's not that your aunt is being nosy, but girls should know how to cook, otherwise it will be hard for them to get married in the future."
Although Madam Ruan was timid, she still said unhappily when it came to her daughter, "My Er Ya is a very good cook. She cooks exceptionally well, even better than us."
Madam Liang had already returned. Upon hearing this, she nodded and said, "That's true. Sanzhu brought back a bowl of noodles earlier, saying that Erya cooked them. I still crave that taste now."
Then she looked at the old lady and said, "Mother, why don't we let Er Ya be the head chef?"
Regardless of the infighting among her three daughters-in-law, the old lady looked at Shuyu with a kind expression and said, "Erya, what do you want to do? Just tell us, and we'll do it."
"I'll make some snacks for everyone to try. Milk, I'll use some corn kernels."
Corn kernels?
What snacks can you make with corn kernels? Da Bao and the others outside the kitchen were quite disappointed when they heard this.
They thought something even tastier than pastries would be made of things like white flour and pork.
What, can you make a flower out of a corn kernel?
Da Bao waved his hand, "No fun, I'd rather go eat peanuts and chestnuts."
Erniu followed, saying, "I want to eat too. Don't eat it all by yourself."
"That's a huge bowl, how can I finish it? I'm not a pig."
"You are it."
The two of them returned to the main room, arguing noisily.
Shu Yu ignored her; she had already accepted the corn kernels the old lady offered.
The food hasn't been cooked yet. There are two pots on the Lu family's stove. One of them is cooking rice, and the other is empty.
Shu Yu asked Da Hu to start the fire, and then poured in the oil.
The people in the kitchen were working, but they were watching Shu Yu's movements. When they saw how much oil she had poured, they all felt their hearts tighten.
Li muttered to herself, "You don't know the value of firewood and rice until you're in charge of the household. This is such a waste."
After these past few days, the old lady and Madam Ruan have gotten used to Shu Yu using a lot of oil. Now, the amount of oil is only slightly more than before, so it's fine.
After pouring in the oil, Shu Yu started adding sugar.
This time, even the old lady and Madam Ruan felt sorry for the sugar, as it wasn't cheap.
However, Shu Yu didn't actually add too much, so the flavor was relatively mild.
After stirring it a few times, Shu Yu poured the bowl of corn kernels into the water.
