Chapter Ten: Retribution for Opposing Me

Meng Yuxiu cleaned his sword and sheathed it.

Chang Lili looked at him and saw that he still had that cold and indifferent face, but his words had completely changed, and his tone was unusually gentle.

In a moment of impulse, her heart overflowed with gratitude, and she tiptoed towards Meng Yuxiu.

The man's hormonal scent filled her nostrils, and before Chang Lili could react, her slender hands were already wrapped around Meng Yuxiu's neck, his warm breath brushing against her neck.

Her mind was buzzing, and the beautiful scenes of that night flashed through her mind. Her face flushed instantly, and she could even feel her chest pressed against another strong chest.

In the chaos, she didn't notice that the person she was embracing was also stiff.

Meng Yuxiu was caught off guard and had no way to deal with this woman who always acted recklessly. For the first time in his life, he felt unable to cope with her.

Chang Lili was the first to let go, quickly taking a few steps back. She cupped her hands as if to hide her emotions, and said in a show of bravado, "I never expected General Meng to be so righteous. I will definitely repay his great kindness in the future."

As soon as Chang Lili finished speaking, she rushed out as if fleeing, her face flushed.

Meng Yuxiu was stunned for a moment before he came to his senses. He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

Chang Lili's slender and delicate figure was no longer in front of him, but he looked in the direction she had disappeared and unconsciously curled the corners of his mouth.

Chang Lili arrived at Mingyi Pavilion, where business was booming and there was a long queue. It seemed that almost everyone in the capital came to Mingyi Pavilion to get medicine.

She was penniless and had initially thought that the General's Mansion was a reliable place, but now she was a little uneasy.

Before she could even finish speaking, a shop assistant greeted her as she stepped into Mingyi Pavilion and politely asked, "Miss, are you from the General's Mansion?"

Chang Lili looked at him in surprise and said, "Yes... I'm from the General's Mansion..."

"This way, please. We've been waiting for you for quite some time." The waiter's face was full of smiles.

Chang Lili thought to herself that Meng Yuxiu was indeed cold on the outside but warm on the inside. He was reluctant to agree to her request, but she didn't expect that he had already sent someone to inform Mingyi Pavilion.

Her opinion of Meng Yuxiu changed again; she found him to be unpredictable, but overall a good person.

The waiter led her to the backyard of Mingyi Pavilion. The front hall was bustling with business, but the backyard was deserted.

"The medicinal herbs you requested are all here, already packed for you. You can go in and get them yourself."

They were standing in what looked like a warehouse. The man finished speaking, turned around, and left, leaving Chang Lili bewildered in the wind.

The matter is very strange. Who would lead a guest directly to their own warehouse and do whatever they want? Even if the other party is from the general's mansion, isn't the warehouse just as important as the granary in a military campaign?

But the waiter ignored her and left.

Just as she was hesitating whether to go into the warehouse, a shrill, piercing voice rang out: "You are truly shameless! I gave you money to get lost, and you actually came back! How can there be such a despicable wretch like you in the world!"

Xiao Shu'er stood at the warehouse door, followed by Bai Mei. Her beautiful face held a fierceness and savagery that did not belong to her age.

Chang Lili frowned, knowing that things were not simple. She accepted the silver notes and wanted to leave, but she encountered an assassin and almost lost her life. She remembered this incident vividly and felt that she would never forget it in her life.

With the prime suspect right here, she wasn't afraid. Instead of getting angry, she laughed and said, "You know why I stayed in the General's Mansion, don't you? It was you who pushed me there yourself. First, you pretended to give me silver notes, then you sent people to kill me. Luckily, I was blessed to meet General Meng."

"Shut up! I'll kill you, you bitch!" She picked up the whip at her waist and lashed out at Chang Lili with all her might.

Chang Lili was on guard and quickly retreated a great distance, shouting, "Murder! Murder! Help!"

Bai Mei panicked and quickly pulled Xiao Shu'er away: "Princess, don't be angry. Have you forgotten why we came here today?"

Xiao Shu'er didn't want to ruin her image in Meng Yuxiu's mind by talking about Chang Lili in broad daylight.

She put away the whip and angrily shouted at Chang Lili, "What are you yelling for! Don't you want your medicine anymore?"

"Medicine? How did you know I needed medicine? Did you deliberately ambush me here?" Chang Lili had a bad feeling.

Xiao Shuer proudly took out a thin piece of paper and waved it in her hand: "This is the prescription written by the doctor who treated your relative. All the medicine you need is here."

At this moment, several men came out of the warehouse, each carrying several medicine packets, which they threw on the ground, piling them into a small mountain.

"Will you give me medicine?"

Chang Lili found it unbelievable; wasn't this like a weasel paying New Year's greetings to a chicken?

Xiao Shu'er smiled provocatively, took the tinderbox from Bai Mei's hand, and said, "Do you want these medicines? There are only so many of these precious medicinal herbs in the entire capital."

"What are you trying to do?" Chang Lili tried to rush over, but was stopped by several men.

Xiao Shu'er easily lit the medicinal herbs with a tinderbox, and Chang Lili could only watch helplessly.

"What a pity for these valuable medicinal herbs, but there's nothing I can do. Who told you to want them? If you want them, I'll make sure you don't get them." Xiao Shu'er threw the tinder into the burning fire, making the flames even stronger.

"You crazy woman! You vicious woman! You will be punished for doing such a wicked thing!"

The firelight made Chang Lili's eyes shine even brighter. She watched with heartache as the fire burned ever brighter, and the neatly folded prescriptions she held in her hand were damp with a thin layer of sweat.

"Retribution? I am the eldest princess, protected by the emperor. But you, how dare you challenge me? I'll let you know the retribution for opposing me." Xiao Shu'er was in high spirits as she looked at Chang Lili's heartbroken and dejected appearance.

"The medicine for my mother-in-law, that's medicine for my mother-in-law!" Chang Lili watched the medicinal herbs turn to ashes little by little, thinking of her mother-in-law enduring her headache while waiting for her to get the medicine, and she couldn't help but feel sad.

Xiao Shuer gestured for the man to drag Chang Lili into the warehouse. Of course, Chang Lili was not going to give up, but being held up by several men like this, she had no power to fight back.

It was truly a case of crying out to heaven and earth in vain.

Xiao Shu'er led them to a corner of the warehouse, where there was an inconspicuous little hidden door.

Chang Lili's heart skipped a beat, and she asked in a panic, "What are you trying to do? Is there no law anymore?"

"Throw her in there!" Xiao Shu'er said without hesitation.

"Let me go! Don't think you can bully people just because you outnumber me!" Chang Lili shouted, but shouting and struggling were useless.

As it turns out, having more people does indeed give you an advantage over having fewer.

The door to the secret room was opened, revealing a dark and gloomy interior filled only with the strong smell of medicine.

Several burly men dragged Chang Lili without saying a word and threw her into the secret room.

Chang Lili screamed and fell to the ground as the door to the secret room slammed shut.

"Hey! Let me out!" she shouted, getting up and banging on the door.

However, no one answered, and the sounds outside could no longer be heard.

She rubbed her arms and sore bottom, and looked around. The light was dim and cold, and she could only see some medicinal herbs displayed here, just like outside.
