Nari could feel everyone's gazes on her, but she didn't have the energy to categorize their meaning.
Like a ridiculous theatrical performance, her ears were filled with the sound coming from the other side of the mirror. It was a tune she felt vaguely familiar with, and Nari's brain, after a stiff turn, completely dug up her memory of the piece.
Death of the Swan
She saw that part of the play only yesterday.
"I don't..." Nari opened her mouth, but before she could finish her refusal, Yang Feiyu had already put her hand on Devonte's hand.
"Go! Come on!"
Nari could hear the excitement in her tone and finally understood the meaning of those gazes. Obviously, in the eyes of those who came to experience it, she was now a very lucky person.
Unfortunately, the person involved doesn't think so.
Devonte led the passive Nari forward, forcing the latter to stand up from the ground and be led to the front by him.
Nari felt a little short of breath. She didn't like the feeling of being watched. It was as if she was back in the corridor outside her room.
The faces around her changed from three-dimensional to two-dimensional. Nari saw their features rotate, distort, and fade, finally becoming black and white portraits.
The portraits were crowded together, and pairs of black and white eyes stared straight at her...
"Relax."
A gentle voice sounded in her ears. If it were a normal person, they might blush and have a faster heartbeat. But for Nari now, this word of relaxation sounded in her ears, but there was another voice that sounded at the same time, made by the same person, but the other one sounded more like the whisper of a devil.
Because of these two voices, Nari couldn't relax even more.
Her body grew stiffer, and under Devonte's careful guidance she resembled an old puppet, her joints creaking with every movement.
Feeling Yang Feiyu's disappointed gaze, Nali felt that she should defend herself. She admitted that she was indeed rather stiff, but never as exaggerated as she was now.
The culprit that caused her current rusty appearance was the other side of the mirror that the rest of them could not see.
In the mirror, Nari and Devonte were dancing gracefully. She seemed to have danced this dance countless times, and every movement was extremely perfect, just like a real ballet dancer.
But precisely because of this, Nari's discomfort became even more intense, because she could see the blood-stained ground and the body whose chest no longer rose and fell in the mirror.
She saw "herself" and Devonte leaping over the body and dancing around it, so that the dance seemed to become a dance at some cult ceremony to pray for the arrival of the devil.
Outside the mirror, she stiffly followed Devonte's instructions, while a twisted, frenzied expression gradually emerged on her face. The music from "The Dying Swan" continued, but the dance felt completely unrelated to the music, like two completely different colors smeared before Nari's eyes.
Before she could figure out what the connection was, the classroom door was knocked.
There were three light knocks, and then the door was opened a crack. Yang Feiyu took a breath, then covered her mouth, looking at the person who walked in carefully through the crack with surprise.
Liao Xiaoe and everyone nodded, glanced at Devonte and his stiff dance partner in the middle of the classroom, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
"!" Nari's pupils shrank as she posed. She did not turn her head to look at Liao Xiaoe, her gaze still fixed on the large mirror.
A Liao Xiaoe also appeared in the mirror. She was no different from the Liao Xiaoe outside. She pushed open the door and walked in, both with smiles on their faces. She seemed to be the only normal existence in that abnormal mirror world.
Devonte and Neri in the mirror stopped dancing, as did those outside the mirror. Even the music in Neri's ears stopped.
Nari retreated back to Yang Feiyu as if she had been pardoned. Because of Liao Xiaoe's arrival, no one paid attention to Nari's performance, which finally made her feel a little relieved.
But she did not relax her vigilance and continued to pay attention to everything in the mirror.
Outside the mirror, Liao Xiaoe took over the teacher's "work" and everyone applauded.
Meng Liming and Devonte left silently, probably to the next classroom. Nari saw that as they left, the two people in the mirror also disappeared.
Liao Xiaoe, who was sitting in the middle of the classroom, bowed to everyone, and then, under everyone's expectant gaze, she agreed to the inquiries of several girls who were obviously her fans and performed a piece for them.
"Ahhh!" Yang Feiyu excitedly grabbed one of Naili's arms and screamed softly. Naili patted the back of her hand, her eyes wandering.
As soon as she started dancing, Liao Xiaoe's aura changed. Everyone held their breath and concentrated, and she seemed to have entered a state of "selflessness".
In the mirror and outside the mirror, she is the only one who remains consistent.
The disappeared music sounded in Nari's ears again. It was still the familiar melody of The Dying Swan. But Nari looked at Liao Xiaoe. She was not dancing the ballet of The Dying Swan.
Even Liao Xiaoe's dance style was completely different from the mournful and gentle melody. She smiled, and her lively movements made the tulle tied around her waist like a skirt rise.
It was like this again. Nari's uneasiness grew stronger. The sharp contrast always gave people a bad omen. That mismatched music seemed to be hinting at something...
Liao Xiaoe was like a little deer active in the jungle. Everyone's eyes were attracted to her. The corners of their mouths rose unconsciously and their hearts beat more vigorously.
Even the people in the mirror had expressions of amazement and obsession on their faces, just like normal people, except... herself.
Nari's eyes met with "Nari", who slowly raised her hand and put her index finger in front of her mouth.
Silence.
Nari understood what she meant.
Her gaze switched back and forth between the mirror and outside the mirror, and the anxiety in her heart became more and more intense. At one point, she even wanted to stand up and make some intense noise to interrupt everything that was making her upset.
But she was caught, as if it was a set program. Yang Feiyu was so excited that she reached out and hugged her tightly, and whispered in her ear: "It's so beautiful..."
Nari couldn't move and could only watch with her eyes open as Liao Xiaoe danced in circles in front of them, then stopped on the right side, stood on tiptoe as if looking out, then turned around, took two steps forward and then took a big jump.
Like a swan about to fly away... Nari opened her eyes unconsciously.
