Chapter 31 "How do you know I can't do it?"...
Qiao Shu couldn't understand Yu Zeheng.
When they kissed, he was more passionate and forceful than anyone else. His palms were pressed against her waist, and his fingers were tighter than anyone else's. Even through the thin fabric, she could clearly feel his movements, as if he was swelling to the extreme. After all this, when she said that they could consider being friends with benefits, he carried her back to the sofa.
Qiao Shu met his cool and calm eyes.
that's all? ? ?
Is he even a man? His trousers are so taut, yet he can still hold back. Qiao Shu can only think of one possibility: if what she said before is true, Yu Zeheng really isn't up to par.
Qiao Shu couldn't find out the answer yet, which was a bit of a shame, since the old Yu Zeheng was much to her liking.
Qiao Shu would regularly return to the old house to visit the old man every week. When she arrived home, she would see her sister-in-law Chen Yi there as well. She would bring Qiao Yan back almost every day. Qiao Yan was mischievous and playful, and it was only when he was around that the old man would show a smile.
Having spent most of his life navigating the treacherous waters of the business world, wielding absolute power, he is now confined to a wheelchair. The old man is inevitably prone to mood swings, becoming melancholic and silent.
Since the last time he fulfilled his vow, the old man's health has gradually improved.
Once he regained his energy, he began to participate in the company's decision-making again. His trusted confidants would come to his home every day, but he clearly felt powerless. He wanted to support Qiao Kaiyu and delegated most of the work to him, only offering guidance.
Qiao Shu pushed the old man out for a walk.
Qiao Yan followed, carrying the puppy. He looked a lot like a member of the Qiao family, with a fair complexion like a glutinous rice ball. Wearing a jacket and jeans, he was already a handsome young man. He hugged the Maltese puppy tightly, tilted his head and grinned, looking like a sunny and warm young man.
"Xiao Yan, you can let it walk by itself, isn't it heavy?" Qiao Shu patted his hair.
Qiao Yan shook her head: "Auntie, I'm very strong. I can even push Grandpa."
The old man turned his head and laughed: "So powerful! Try pushing Grandpa."
“I can!” Qiao Yan excitedly handed the puppy to Qiao Shu, who was the same height as the wheelchair. He gripped the handle tightly, pursed his lips and tightened his face, making a series of "uh-uh" sounds as he exerted himself.
The old man pressed a button, and the wheelchair slid forward.
"Wow, that's amazing! Our Xiao Yan is so strong!" Qiao Shu praised.
The old man's brows relaxed: "I think we should let Xiao Yan push Great-Grandpa from now on."
Qiao Yan's face was flushed, and he had boundless energy. He happily agreed, but after pushing for a while, he was panting heavily. Qiao Shu wiped the sweat from his face, and he gulped down the water in his thermos.
Autumn is always short-lived, and before you know it, it's early winter.
Everything was withered, and the sunlight was pale and weak. After watching for a while, the old man waved to go back. On the way back, he asked Qiao Shu, "Aren't you planning to have a child?"
A few meters away, Qiao Yan was racing with the puppy, and her childish laughter came from afar.
Perhaps it was because his body was getting weaker and weaker, but Qiao Zhenkai’s desire for new life was getting stronger. After working hard for so many years, he could not resist the common desire for his family to prosper.
Furthermore, Qiao Shu and Yu Zeheng have been married for four years; they should have a child by now.
The old man would mention this almost every time he came, and Qiao Shu had become immune to it, so she casually replied that she had already planned to have one.
Qiao Zhenkai had heard those familiar words countless times. He didn't want a verbal promise, but rather a result: "Does Yu Zeheng not want it?"
"no."
Qiao Shu almost instinctively spoke up for Yu Zeheng: "Neither of us wants to be too deliberate about this; let's see how things unfold."
"Great-Grandpa, look, it's a little bug."
Qiao Yan ran over, pinched her fingers, and placed the small insect she had caught in Qiao Zhenkai's palm.
An ant.
Qiao Yan smiled and said, "It's so small. There are so many over there."
Qiao Zhenkai smiled and nodded.
Qiao Shu called him over, wiped his hands, and told him not to pinch the cookies with his hands, but he could scatter cookie crumbs, which the ants would carry away. He exclaimed as if he had found a new continent, and happily ran over to crush the cookies and scatter them on the ground.
Qiao Zhenkai brushed the ant from his palm and asked, "Whose problem is this?"
"What?"
Qiao Shu realized what was happening and instinctively wanted to explain, but then stopped herself. This was indeed a good excuse.
Qiao Zhenkai asked, "Have you had it checked?"
In his view, not being able to conceive after four years could only mean there was a problem with his health.
Qiao Shu forced a smile and said, "It's been checked."
"What was the result? What problems were there? Did you take any medication?" Qiao Zhenkai followed up with questions.
Qiao Shu couldn't think of a reason right away, so she stammered, "Yu, Aheng, he..."
Qiao Zhenkai frowned: "Is it Zeheng's problem?"
"..."
Qiao Shu's eyes lit up as she found the right answer. She gave a soft "hmm" and said helplessly, "We've seen many doctors and taken medicine. The doctors all told us not to rush, because the more we rush, the worse it will be. So, we've always just let nature take its course."
Qiao Zhenkai was silent for a moment: "Why haven't I heard you mention this before?"
"I was afraid you'd worry, but don't worry, we... will definitely try our best." Qiao Shu pursed her lips and lowered her eyes, silently saying sorry to Yu Zeheng a dozen times in her heart. It's better for him to be sick than for her to be sick.
The benefit of doing this was that the old man never mentioned having children again.
After having dinner at the old house, Qiao Shu went back home, took a bath, and then slept in late on the weekend. Since starting work, her life has been incredibly regular, the only drawback being lack of sleep.
Yu Zeheng got up on time on the weekend. Breakfast was only for one person, and even the Americano that Qiao Shu usually drank was not prepared.
"Where is she?" he asked Aunt Chu.
Aunt Chu said, "The young lady said she was too tired last night and didn't eat breakfast today. She should be catching up on sleep."
Yu Zeheng nodded, and a fluffy white puppy appeared at his feet. Xiao Xi squatted down beside him, smiling kindly.
He said in a low voice, "Your mother has forgotten you."
Hearing "Mom," Xiao Xi stuck out her tongue and laughed even more happily, rubbing against his legs.
After finishing his breakfast, Yu Zeheng took the leash and led Xiao Xi out. Its short legs bounced excitedly back and forth. He walked slowly forward. Although its mother had failed in her duty, the puppy was innocent, and he didn't mind occasionally taking on her responsibilities.
Xiao Xi is a very affectionate dog. Every time he is walked, he becomes closer to him, which is in stark contrast to a certain heartless woman.
Yu Zeheng would also regularly return to the old house with Qiao Shu, appear in front of the old man, and have meals with the Qiao family.
Qiao Shu was afraid of the cold but loved beauty. She was wrapped in a thick, airtight coat, revealing her fair face. When she went inside, she took off her coat, revealing a shirt and a pencil skirt. At home, she only liked to play with Qiao Yan, and everyone else treated her like a child.
The meal went fairly well. With Qiao Yan there, the atmosphere was lively, and even playing with the children became a topic of conversation. In addition, with Yu Zeheng present, everyone chose light and pleasant topics to talk about.
After dinner, Yu Zeheng chatted with the old man for a while.
The conversation revolved around the company's situation and potential collaborations between the Qiao and Yu families. Qiao Zhenkai glanced at Qiao Kaiyu, who was standing not far away, and said, "His older brother isn't as good as you, so we'll need your help in the future."
Qiao Zhenkai pulled the thin blanket covering his knees tighter and said, "Xiao Shu has told me about your situation."
Yu Zeheng frowned, instinctively feeling that it wasn't about them being divorced.
"I know a few doctors in this field. You can go for a check-up when you have time. One of them is a traditional Chinese medicine doctor who has been in this field for thirty years and is very experienced. As long as you receive treatment, having children in the future will not be difficult."
Yu Zeheng remained silent.
Doctor, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, wants to have a child.
He didn't know what Qiao Shu had said behind his back. His first reaction was to look at Qiao Shu. She was holding the Maltese, her smile bright and beautiful. When she noticed his gaze, she raised the puppy to greet him.
Yu Zeheng appeared expressionless, but he was actually already planning to grab the person. He hesitated for a few seconds and asked, "Is it my problem?"
Because of the flat tone, it sounded more like a statement of fact.
Qiao Zhenkai said, "It's okay, it can be cured."
It really is his problem.
Yu Zeheng didn't expose him, but braced himself and continued the conversation, even getting the doctor's contact information. Holding the phone, he sneered inwardly, but when he looked at the instigator, he was still smiling.
Qiao Shu is like a beautifully colored cocktail, with a faint, sweet, fruity aroma; only after tasting it can one appreciate its spiciness.
A pretty face is just a seductive illusion.
That evening, the two took the same car back to South Bay.
Qiao Shu changed out of her high heels and interacted with Xiao Xi again. When she went upstairs, Yu Zeheng was in front of her. He was already taller than her, and after a few steps, he was more like a wall, blocking her view.
After going upstairs, Yu Zeheng didn't return to his room. He turned back and unbuttoned one of his shirt buttons at the same time: "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
"What do I have to say to you?" Qiao Shu found this question somewhat novel, and she looked at him with amusement. "What do you think I have to say to you?"
Yu Zeheng took a step forward.
His tall figure was close at hand, his brows and eyes cold and stern: "For example, spreading rumors that I'm incompetent."
Qiao Shu's eyes lit up, and she smiled, pursing her lips: "Did the old man tell you this?"
Yu Zeheng remained noncommittal.
Qiao Shu couldn't imagine that scene. No wonder Yu Zeheng's expression was so strange that night, as dark as charcoal. She crossed her arms, leaned her shoulders against the wall, and tilted her head: "Are you that good? If you're so good, why did you refuse to be my sex partner?"
Yu Zeheng leaned closer, his head against the wall: "Who said it's better to play with your little toys than to sleep with me?"
Qiao Shu sighed and flirtatiously tossed her hair: "Little toys are too tiring. I think you're better; you're not so tiring."
"..."
Yu Zeheng repeated her words: "Is being with me not so tiring?"
Qiao Shu meant that she didn't need to do anything, but for some reason it came out differently. She didn't explain, and nodded: "So, what do you think of my suggestion?"
"Not very good."
Without a second thought, Yu Zeheng replied directly. He raised his hand, put two fingers together, bent them, and tapped her forehead with his knuckles: "Ms. Qiao, I believe that what you have done to me constitutes serious sexual harassment."
The force was light, but the insult was extremely strong.
Qiao Shu winced slightly, tilting her head back. She gritted her teeth and said, "If this counts as sexual harassment, then do you want to count how many times you've harassed me?"
Loading cargo.
Don't you remember when it was hard?
She only talked about it, unlike him who actually said it.
Qiao Shu ignored him and lowered her arm to go back to her room, but was pulled back as Yu Zeheng leaned against her, pinning her against the wall.
Yu Zeheng's face was right in front of her. He bent down to match her height, his breath brushing against her cheek: "How do you know I can't?"
The voice seemed to be deliberately lowered, ringing in my ear.
"It's been two years, have you tried?"
