Day 11 worsened

The younger sister craned her neck, staring at the booklet dangling in Xia Ning's hand. Thinking she was playing a game with it, she kicked her leg and bit down hard.

Xia Ning exclaimed in shock: "My little sister ate 'poop'!"

Then, she let out a deep contralto voice: "Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!"

Sister: ∪?ω?∪

That evening, Xia Ning decided to eat seafood. She has a bad habit—the more you forbid someone from eating something, the more you want to eat it.

With the water pollution scandal making headlines, people are afraid to eat seafood. Xia Ning, who doesn't usually eat seafood, suddenly has a strong craving for fish.

She took out steamed crabs, sweet and sour ribbonfish, scrambled eggs with shrimp, garlic scallops, crispy fried yellow croaker, and a bowl of clam soup from her storage space.

Looking at the table full of seafood, Xia Ning had the illusion that she had robbed the Dragon Palace, and the embarrassment caused by the misunderstanding during the day vanished in an instant.

Dinner is usually eaten in the master bedroom with the air conditioning on. Xia Ning suspects that after eating this meal, she will smell of seafood all night long.

After eating until her belly was round and full, Xia Ning wanted to play with her younger sister.

I had just been playing for a while when the doorbell suddenly rang.

Xia Ning got up, grabbed the filtered water she had prepared beforehand, sprayed it on herself, then ruffled her hair to make it look like sweat, before walking slovenly towards the entrance.

Looking through the peephole, Xia Ning saw Wang Wei from next door standing outside. She opened the door a crack, just big enough for her to squeeze through, and slipped out to ask what was wrong.

Wang Wei asked absentmindedly, "Can I come in and sit for a while?"

Xia Ning rubbed her hands together and gave an embarrassed smile.

"Can't we talk about this outside? You know it's too hot, and I'm not in the mood to clean. The house is a mess..."

Upon hearing this, Wang Wei quickly replied, "It was my oversight." Her home was currently dirty and messy, and she didn't want strangers to come in.

Xia Ning smiled and said it was all the same.

She would never let outsiders into her home. Although Xia Ning could store vehicles in her space, the air conditioning in the master bedroom had been running for so long that a slight chill would seep into the living room. If someone from outside came in and felt the temperature difference, it would be hard to say what would happen.

Wang Wei glanced at the tightly closed door of 803, pulled Xia Ning to the corner, and whispered, "My husband went to the building management meeting today, and guess what?"

Xia Ning asked enthusiastically, "What's wrong?"

Wang Wei covered her mouth with her hand and whispered, "There was an elderly person living alone in Building 9 who died of heatstroke at home. They said the body was already rotting. The neighbors smelled the stench and came to complain, but no one answered the door no matter how much they knocked. They went to the property management office and that's when they found out something was wrong."

Building No. 9 was only a few meters away from their Building No. 8. Wang Wei felt very uncomfortable after hearing the news and felt really stifled if she didn't talk to someone.

She tried to talk to Jiang Yuan, but he only talked the same old things and it wasn't interesting at all.

Xia Ning instantly understood why she had singled her out. There were elderly and young people in 803's family, and it would be somewhat unlucky to tell Zhang Changheng about it.

"What's the next step?" Xia Ning asked.

Wang Wei shrugged: "Tomorrow, the building manager will go door-to-door asking who lives in each household. If only the elderly, weak, sick, or disabled remain, they should report it to the property management, and they should pay special attention."

Xia Ning asked again, "What about the body?"

Wang Wei shuddered and said, "They arranged for a car to come and pick it up in the middle of the night, saying it was to avoid causing unnecessary panic."

That's what they say, but in reality, the whole neighborhood will know in less than two days; it's impossible to keep it a secret.

As the saying goes, good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels a thousand miles.

Wang Wei felt much better after saying it, and she then asked Xia Ning, "Do you think we should bring our parents over?"

It's best for outsiders not to give advice on these kinds of family matters, as it can easily make them feel uncomfortable with everyone involved.

Xia Ning said, "The situation outside is uncertain. Who knows, we might have to go back to our hometown to escape the summer heat in the future."

"Too."

Wang Wei nodded; she had only asked casually and hadn't taken it to heart.

In reality, her parents are only in their fifties, far from meeting the criteria for elderly people living alone.

She glanced at Xia Ning, thinking that although this girl lived alone, she seemed quite bold. For some reason, she always felt that Xia Ning gave her a greater sense of security than her husband.

Xia Ning was naturally unaware of the change in her demeanor that had occurred without her noticing.

After seeing Wang Wei, who was eager to confide in her, off, Xia Ning's composed expression changed. She hurriedly opened the door and ran back to her room.

"It's so hot! It's so hot!"

The temperature is a bit lower at night than during the day, but it's still close to 40 degrees Celsius!

After standing outside for five minutes, Xia Ning was not only drenched in sweat, but also had three large mosquito bites on her legs.

She skillfully pulled out two tissues to wipe her sweat, then sprayed floral water on her legs.

Xia Ning: "Ugh!"

The seafood smell mixed with floral water was slightly nauseating.

At this moment, Xia Ning suddenly understood the feelings of the treasure chest monster.

day11

The sun is scorching the earth, and the extreme weather forecasts issued by the observatory are becoming increasingly longer.

3 days, 5 days, 10 days...

The people are not stupid; they have realized that something is wrong with the weather. However, individual power is too insignificant, so they can only choose to trust the country and numb themselves.

In such hot weather, if the power supply isn't provided so people can turn on their air conditioners, they simply can't survive.

At nearly fifty degrees Celsius, it's no longer a question of whether the human body can adapt.

Every household across the country needs to turn on the air conditioner, causing severe overload of the power system.

The city where Xia Ning lives has begun to implement centralized power supply and phased power supply.

Even so, the inability of electricity supply to keep up with consumption remains a major problem.

The power outage in the Xia Ning area will last from midnight to 8 a.m.

People began to passively become nocturnal creatures, hiding during the day and being active at night.

They sleep with the air conditioning on during the day, and then go out to do other activities when they can't sleep at night because it's too hot.

That evening, Jiang Yuan indeed came to register, but he was stunned when he saw him.
