Greta told him that free people were not allowed to exist in the land of the gray fog, and that if he were discovered, he would be assimilated.
Several years ago, an evil god invaded the continent, and human technology was no match for the ancient god.
Gray fog, blood moon, sun... divided up humanity on land.
Today, the only place on the planet untouched by evil gods is the deep sea.
Legend has it that a god also exists there, who is the guardian of the ocean.
Leander shrank back upon hearing this.
Greta sighed, "There's no use thinking about it. Go take a shower and change your clothes first."
"What a gentle angel."
Leander twirled around, his gloom vanished, and walked into the bathroom with immense happiness. He always called Greta the Angel, but in truth, he was more like an innocent, carefree angel.
Greta smiled as she listened to the cheerful singing that accompanied the sound of water. She put the apple pie she had made yesterday back into the oven to heat it up, thinking that Mr. Leander must be hungry by now.
When Leander came out, Greta couldn't help but compliment him on how well the dress suited him, while secretly praising herself for her good taste.
His skin was very fair, which made his bright blue eyes even more deep and captivating.
“I always feel very happy when I’m with you,” Greta said.
He knelt on one knee, took Greta's hand in his, and gently kissed the back of her hand.
"My pleasure."
It felt as softly as a feather landing on her skin, but Greta felt as if she had been burned, and blushed as she withdrew her hand.
Seeing Greta's reaction, Leander blushed as well. Unlike Greta, he crossed his arms and shook his body with obvious delight.
"I really want to introduce you to my family."
"Your family?"
“Ah, it’s mine… um… you could say father or mother… I come from a part of His body…” Leander paused, then said mysteriously, “Actually, I have a secret to tell you.”
Greta blinked, her curiosity piqued. "Please tell me."
Leander lowered his voice and said slowly, "Actually, I am not an ordinary person. I am a prince from the sea."
"The Prince of the Sea?"
“Yes,” he said, scratching his forehead with a mix of pride and embarrassment, “the prophecy said I would become Pandora’s box, so they wouldn’t let me leave home. I sneaked out to play and accidentally got swept away by the waves.”
"Do you remember the way home?" Greta asked worriedly.
Leander's face fell in frustration: "I have a bad sense of direction."
In fact, Leander wasn't a rebellious kid who wanted to run away from home. He just wanted to explore the edge of "home." For some reason, the waves were particularly unruly that day.
As a child of the ocean, he used to move freely in the sea, but suddenly he lost his connection with the seawater.
In just a few seconds, he lost consciousness and was swept away by the waves.
“I’m sorry,” Greta said to him, “I’ll go to Mr. Chin’s tomorrow morning to borrow a compass, is that alright with you?”
"That's great! If I find the way, I'll definitely take you back with me."
Leander's eyes lit up immediately.
"In my home, there is a palace made of crystal, where mermaids swim freely. Even if they fall in love with humans, they will not turn into sea foam."
He glanced at Greta, his ears turning bright red as he lowered his head.
"I don't know either."
Greta imagined the scene he described and was slightly lost in thought.
“Tonight, as a token of my gratitude, let me prepare a sumptuous candlelight dinner for you,” Leander said excitedly.
Greta did not refuse him. She sat on the sofa and watched him busily prepare one delicious dish after another as if by magic.
Greta wanted Leander to return home, and she was determined to help him find his way back.
This will be her new mission.
The next day, Greta woke up to the sound of waves.
Leander stood barefoot on the beach, waving to Greta through the windowpane, his azure eyes filled with dappled sunlight, as if hope were shining brightly.
Greta clasped her hands together reverently.
In that instant, Greta saw the prince from the sea.
She hoped that her God could see it too.
Leander walked over with light steps: "Good morning, are you praying?"
The inhabitants of the sea also pray to the guardian deity of the ocean.
Greta smiled and said, "Good morning."
Leander, mimicking Greta, clasped his hands together and said, "To see an angel first thing in the morning is truly a wonderful day."
Greta blushed, turned her head away from his gaze, and whispered, "I'll go prepare breakfast."
Leander smiled as Greta fled in disarray, without exposing Greta's clumsy excuse.
Breakfast was a simple two slices of bread and a glass of milk. Greta ate while secretly glancing at Leander, hoping he wouldn't find it offensive.
Fortunately, Leander ate with great relish, and even Greta's dry bread tasted as sweet as if it had been coated with honey.
"Wait a minute, I'll go borrow a compass. You absolutely must stay home and not go out," Greta instructed him.
“I want to go with you,” Leander said.
“But…” Greta hesitated.
He put down his cup, milk still on his lips, and gazed lovingly at Greta with his beautiful blue eyes.
"I don't want to leave you. I want to go with you, okay?"
Greta's heart skipped a beat, and all her refusal turned into a helpless "Okay" on her lips.
After breakfast, Greta took Leander to see Mr. Ch'an.
