Mr. Qi An's mansion is located in the heart of the misty land, and they need to cross half an island to get a glimpse of it.
Greta was reluctant to let Leander go with her, but she couldn't refuse his request.
Throughout the journey, even though Greta tried to cover herself with a hat, sunglasses, and a scarf, she couldn't completely hide the curious look on Leander's face.
Looking at the thick white fog in the air, Leander asked, "How do you see the road?"
Greta said, "Those blessed by the gray fog will no longer have their eyes covered by the mist."
Leander asked again, "Isn't the Gray Mist an evil god? How could it bestow blessings?"
Greta warned him, "Be careful what you say, for the gods will hear your words."
Leander made a zipping motion.
He muttered, "Life here is too oppressive, I don't like it."
The underwater world is crystal clear, and everyone can swim freely.
Gretel looked up at the sky, where free-floating clouds drifted.
"The reason you feel depressed is because you don't belong here; you belong to the sea."
Leander paused for a moment, then slowly said, "I don't think you belong here either."
Greta turned her head in surprise and met his eyes, blue, a color that blended with the sky and the sea.
Greta couldn't help but smile.
"Even though you don't like it, this is my home."
Leander remarked, "This is a strange place, even stranger than the undercurrents in the sea."
Greta took his hand and said, "Soon, very soon you'll be able to go home."
Leander watched the Gretas clasp hands with excitement, opening his mouth as if to say something, when suddenly a loud noise rose in the distance, and brilliant fireworks bloomed in the sky.
Leander stopped and looked up at the sky.
"The fog is too thick, we can't see anything. Why are they setting off fireworks? Is there a celebration today?"
"No……"
Greta stopped in her tracks: "Someone has been executed."
"Execution," Leander asked curiously, "What crime did he commit?"
Greta said softly, "Those who betray the gods will be punished."
Perhaps Greta was speaking too softly, because Leander only heard fragments of her words.
"What?"
"nothing."
Greta steadied herself, her nails digging into her palms, and forced a smile.
"The fireworks are over, let's keep going."
Leander clearly had many questions, but seeing Greta's troubled expression, he kindly let them go.
He followed Greta step by step toward the gray building in the center of the mist.
Greta thought Leander would be shocked by Mr. Ch'en's mansion, but to her surprise, he remained indifferent, showing more excitement than when watching the fireworks.
Perhaps the outside world is more attractive, Greta thought to herself, as she led him through the long corridor to the room of the superior.
The maid at the door saw Greta and let them in without saying a word.
Greta bent down: "Mr. Qi An."
Mr. Qi An extended his hand: "My dear Greta, come here."
Greta did as she was told, taking two steps forward and looking up.
He smiled gently: "Go ahead, what is it you want?"
Greta said, "I would like to ask for your help."
“You haven’t asked me for anything all these years, are you really going to make an exception for him…” Mr. Qi’an’s gaze fell on Greta’s back.
Greta had clearly told Leander not to speak, but he straightened his chest and strode over to Greta's side.
"This is what I want, please help me."
"oh?"
Mr. Qi An looked him up and down.
Where do you come from?
“I came from the sea and accidentally drifted here. I want to take Greta home with me,” Leander said loudly.
"Take Greta home?"
"Yes, we've agreed."
Mr. Qi An turned to Greta: "You agreed to his request?"
Greta nodded stiffly: "Yes."
He chuckled and said to Leander, "Are you sure you want to bring Greta home?"
“I’m sure,” Leander said, gripping Greta’s hand tightly, “the ocean will give her freedom.”
Mr. Qi gave Leander a meaningful look, then asked Greta, "Are you sure you want to leave with him?"
Greta managed to say with difficulty, "...Yes."
Mr. Qi An nodded his chin, a gentle smile curving his lips.
Do you remember who your master was?
“You’re not allowed to threaten her,” Leander said, unable to bear seeing Greta being bullied.
Mr. Qi narrowed his eyes; it was a sign of danger.
Mr. Qi An's smile immediately turned cold: "Greta, are you really going to go with a madman of unknown origin?"
Leander retorted angrily, "I'm not some random madman."
Greta just kept saying, "He is a prince from the sea."
Mr. Qi lifted Greta's chin, his eyes devoid of any warmth.
"Can you bear the consequences of angering the sea? Aren't you afraid of becoming a sacrifice to the sea?"
Leander was truly enraged: "You are not allowed to belittle the god of the sea!"
He secretly resolved to take Greta away no matter what, so that these foolish inhabitants of the Gray Fog would know how vast the ocean truly is.
In Greta's lowered gaze, the white tiled floor, like clouds, lay beneath her feet. Every time Greta entered this place, she couldn't help but imagine herself walking in the sky.
The sky is even wider than the sea.
The sky was gray.
“Mr. Chin,” Greta said, “can you grant my request?”
