Chapter Thirty-Four: Don't Underestimate a Young Man's Poorness

Li Xian bought the herbal tea that Xu Nuo wanted in just a few minutes. He took the tea and was about to leave when Xu Laoliu, who had caught up with him, stopped him. Xu Laoliu said, "Brother Li, where are you going? Aren't you going to Eighth Master's to hand over the receipt? Hurry up and go."

Li Xian paused, his gaze gloomy as he looked out of the alley, his voice urgent: "I'll take you later, you go first."

Xu Laoliu was stunned for a moment. Seeing that he had left after speaking, he didn't have time to stop him. He looked out of the alleyway curiously and saw Li Xian hurriedly run to a little girl and bend down to talk to her.

From Xu Laoliu's perspective, one can clearly see the expression on Li Xian's face.

They were all from the "Five Black Categories," disliked in the village and with no way out in life, so they risked their lives to make some money. Li Xian was a man of few words but ruthless, with eyes as fierce as those of a beast in the mountains.

But the Li Xian he saw at this moment did not have the coldness in his eyes. He looked at the girl again. He could not see her face clearly, but with her graceful and slender figure, she must not be ugly.

Xu Laoliu let out a surprised "whoosh".

No wonder he started selling sex goods. How could he keep a woman like that if he didn't risk his life for some money?

Li Xian looked down at her and said, "I've bought the things."

Seeing the sweat on his forehead, Xu Nuo was a little worried about his wound: "Is your wound alright? Has it reopened?"

Li Xian shook his head and led the person outside.

The midday sun shone on the two of them. When he spoke to her without bending down or kneeling, she had to tilt her head back to see him clearly.

Wow, he's so tall!

Xu Nuo looked up at him and said, "Let's go eat."

Li Xian nodded without hesitation and took her to the state-run restaurant.

It was lunchtime, but there weren't many people. Xu Nuo was about to pay when Li Xian tugged at the back of her collar and pulled her back a little.

He asked her, "What do you want to eat?"

Xu Nuo had eaten at state-run restaurants before; the taste was mediocre, but the portions were generous. Looking at the menu, she said, "Shredded pork noodles."

Li Xian found a seat for her and went to order.

It was supposed to be his turn, but he said, "Comrade, I want two..."

Before he could finish speaking, someone suddenly interrupted from behind, saying, "Three bowls of beef noodles and three meat buns."

After saying that, he blatantly glanced at Li Xian, thinking with disdain: He looks decent enough, but he's just a peasant.

The salesperson didn't stop him. After taking the order, they turned to look at Li Xian. When they saw his face, their disdain and indifference lessened slightly, but the way they looked him up and down still made them feel uncomfortable.

She said, "What do you want? The price is on the table. Choose carefully, and don't give anything back once you've ordered."

Li Xian glanced at her, and she instinctively shrank back. Then she heard him say, "Two noodles with shredded pork, and two meat buns."

"It'll cost 1.2 yuan in total, and we need two tickets."

Li Xian handed over the money and tickets without changing his expression, and the man couldn't help but glance at him a few more times.

Xu Nuo saw everything, silently turned her head away, and pretended to look at the scenery outside.

He muttered to himself: "Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river; never underestimate a young man's potential."

The shredded pork noodles at the state-run restaurant are exactly what they sound like: just shredded pork and soup noodles with very little greens.

They don't provide extra bowls and chopsticks here. Li Xian took the noodles but didn't give them to her. He first took a pair of serving chopsticks and a spoon to cool them down before pushing them in front of her.

Xu Nuo took the chopsticks she was offered and said, "I can't eat this much, so please share some with me."

His bowl was still untouched, and it was overflowing, with no room to distribute it.

Li Xian said, "You eat it, and give it to me if you can't finish it."

Xu Nuo felt a little embarrassed to let him eat her leftovers, and was hesitating about how to say it when he glanced at her and asked, "Isn't it cold enough?"

He pretended to reach out and take the bowl.

Xu Nuo quickly said, "No."

She quickly grabbed her chopsticks and took a bite.

The noodles were a bit salty, so she took another sip of the soup, but it was still salty.

Li Xian pushed the steamed bun in front of her.

Xu Nuo, with noodles in her mouth, gulped them down and shook her head, saying, "I can't eat anymore."

Xu Nuo pushed the bun back: "You eat it."

Li Xian took her spoon and chopsticks, scooped the meat out of the buns, swallowed the two bun wrappers in two bites, and pushed the meat filling in front of her.

The meat buns at the state-run restaurant tasted good. Xu Nuo looked at the meat filling, wanting to eat it but afraid she wouldn't be able to finish it.

She held up her spoon and said, "I'll scoop out a spoonful, and you can eat the rest, okay?"

He nodded.

Xu Nuo scooped up a spoonful, thought the taste was just so-so, and leaned over to whisper, "It's not as good as Xu Yan's."

She spoke very softly, leaning close to the screen, afraid of being overheard.

Li Xian was startled by her sudden closeness, his hand holding the chopsticks tightened, and he nodded with a blush.

Xu Nuo added, "Xu Yan's cooking is delicious, she's good-looking, and has a great personality. Don't you think she's perfect to marry?"

Li Xian choked on his food.

Xu Nuo said, "You're blushing."

He really blushed; he choked on his noodles.

Those usually silent and deep eyes showed a hint of embarrassment: "Don't talk while eating."

Xu Nuo wouldn't listen to her. She had many bad habits; she not only liked to talk while eating, but also liked to daydream.

Before, when she ate at home, her grandparents would remind her after each bite, "Cheer up quickly, don't hold it in your mouth."

She stared at Li Xian's flushed face and felt that he was quite different from before.

Although he was good-looking at first, he was extremely thin and always looked malnourished and sickly. His eyes were high on his cheekbones and looked fierce.

Perhaps it was because he drank a lot of herbal water that he now has a handsome and dashing face, and the scar on his forehead has faded a lot.

He looked up and reminded her, "It's cold."

Xu Nuo said "Oh", picked up a mouthful with her chopsticks, and chewed for a while before saying, "Li Xian, next time ask Xu Yan to make you shredded pork noodles. She makes them really delicious. Yes, she can also make spicy chicken, which is super tasty."

He asked her, "Do you want to eat?"

Xu Nuo nodded, and he stood up to order food. She asked him curiously, "Where are you going?"

He pointed to the menu: "This has spicy chicken."

Xu Nuo quickly pulled him down to sit: "I can't eat anymore, and this isn't as good as Xu Yan's cooking."

Li Xian sat back down.

He had already finished eating and was quietly waiting for Xu Nuo to finish. Xu Nuo ate slowly, staring at the street scene outside. She ate a mouthful of noodles, but it took her a long time to swallow it.

Li Xian glanced at her and reminded her, "You need to chew."

She snapped out of her daze, took a couple of bites, and put down her chopsticks: "I'm full."

Li Xian stared at her face: "Finish your meat."

Xu Nuo picked up her chopsticks again, took a few bites, and shook her head: "I can't eat anymore."

Li Xian then reached out and took the bowl. He took a bite and stopped. She had put that stuff in the noodle soup again.

Li Xian looked up at her.

Seeing that her face was rosy and her lips were still moist from eating, he silently lowered his head and quickly shoveled the rest of the soup noodles clean.

Xu Nuo said, "Li Xian, your injury hasn't healed yet, you need to rest well."

He grunted and said, "Okay."
