Chapter Ten: His Story

The night was dark and there was no light; a cool breeze made her hair disheveled.

Li Xian's voice came through.

“Every time my father was criticized and denounced, he would tell me to run up the mountain to hide.”

He spoke in a calm and indifferent tone, as if he were telling someone else's story, and even as he spoke, his eyes and brows were full of indifference and mockery.

Xu Nuo felt a lump in her throat and unconsciously moved closer to him, wrapping her arms around his neck, comforting him like a child: "Li Xian, it's all in the past, everything will be different soon."

In the darkness, Li Xian twitched the corner of his mouth.

What will be different?

Xu Nuo didn't want to say so much to him, but when she thought about the many misunderstandings and twists and turns between him and Xu Yan, she realized that it was all because he was concerned about his own status and couldn't get out of this shadow.

Her slender, cool fingertips poked him, and after he slowly turned his head, Xu Nuo looked firmly into his eyes: "Li Xian, do you know? The college entrance examination has been reinstated, and educated youth are allowed to return to their hometowns. This means that everything is changing, and I believe that everything that happened to you will also change."

Her eyes were clear and bright, and a tiny mole on her eyelid twitched playfully. Her voice was so sweet that it made one's heart flutter: "Your parents must have known that you would have to go through some dangerous things, which is why they named you Li Xian. Don't worry, everything will pass, and the danger will pass too."

Very quickly, just a few months later.

The rightists are about to be rehabilitated, and the discrimination against the children of the "Five Black Categories" will no longer be as it was before. Li Xian will climb out of the mire, return to Shanghai, make a name for himself, and no longer be affected by his childhood and identity, becoming a very, very powerful person.

Xu Nuo patted his shoulder lightly.

Don't be afraid, you have the protagonist's halo.

Li Xian lowered his eyes and did not respond to her for a long time.

We've arrived at Youlongtan.

Li Xian took out the ring and handed it to her.

Xu Nuo reached out and grabbed it, then threw it into the cold, dark pool. She patted her heart reassuringly and said, "Here you go, don't scare me anymore."

The moonlight was faint, and the water shimmered.

His palm still carried the lingering warmth of her brief stay; he clenched his fist, as if wanting to leave something behind.

She was wrapped in his clothes, her eyes were dazzlingly bright, and she smiled at him with a smile on her lips: "Let's go back."

"Um."

Li Xian silently bent down and gently picked her up.

With her worries gone, Xu Nuo yawned and unconsciously rested her head on his shoulder. Before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep, feeling utterly exhausted.

She had been suffering from sleep deprivation for several days due to nightmares, and she was extremely tired.

Li Xian walked quickly and steadily, his warm and sweet breath landing on his neck like a feather tickling him.

Her soft body was like a boneless vine, and even though it was clinging to a hard rock, it seemed to fit perfectly.

He walked silently to the door of the brigade leader Chang Youxin's house, and looking at the quiet house, his eyes grew darker.

This is the house of his grandfather, whom he had never met.

His father suffered greatly, being beaten, stripped naked, and hung up.

One time, he couldn't take it anymore and dragged Li Xian up the mountain, hoping to find some relief.

But in the end, he wiped away his tears, hugged him, and talked to him for a long time.

He guided him, telling him about the preciousness of life, the bitterness of resentment, and the relief of letting go.

He was young, but his eyes were already indifferent. His father asked him, "Xiao Xian, you won't stay in resentment forever, will you?"

He pursed his lips tightly, neither expressing hatred nor not hatred.

My father said that people don't live for no reason. Even if you don't know why you're living now, as long as you keep waiting, one day, or even in a moment, you will understand why you are alive.

His gaze fell on her peaceful sleeping profile.

After regaining his senses, he gave himself a self-deprecating and disgusted smirk.

Some dark places should not live under the light, because once the light illuminates everything, those dirty and dark thoughts cannot survive.

Li Xian didn't wake her up.

With steady steps, he walked in another direction.
