"Are you selling this?" Jiang Yue asked excitedly.
The little boy looked no more than eleven or twelve years old, with dark skin and bright eyes. He was wearing a double-breasted jacket that had been washed so much that it looked bleached. It didn't fit him well, as if it had been altered from someone else's clothes.
Seeing that there was a business coming, the little boy immediately perked up and grinned, "For sale! Sister, do you want to buy it?"
"How much is it?" Jiang Yue asked with a smile, thinking that this little boy was quite sweet.
"One, one cent." The little boy hesitated and spoke.
"What? One cent?" Jiang Yue was shocked. Are crayfish so cheap now?
The little boy thought Jiang Yue was complaining about the high prices, and fearing that she would not buy it, he quickly changed his words and said, "Five cents, five cents a pound! Sister, if you want to buy all of them, I'll give you three cents!"
Jiang Yue: “…How much is it?” Why did she feel that the little boy was in a hurry to get rid of it? Could there be something wrong with the crayfish?
"Sister, I caught these giant caterpillars from the rice fields at home. Look, they are all alive!" The little boy saw Jiang Yue looking into the bucket and quickly grabbed one.
Giant crayfish? Jiang Yue was quite surprised to hear the little boy call it crayfish.
Ningning was watching along with Jiang Yue, when suddenly a pair of large pincers stretched out in front of her. She was so scared that she hugged Jiang Yue's legs and shouted, "Mom!"
"Ningning, don't be afraid!" Jiang Yue patted Ningning and then asked the little boy, "How many pounds do you have here? I want them all!"
The little boy quickly took out a scale and hooked it with the bucket. "Excluding the weight, it's 8.7 jin, a total of 26 cents. Sister, just give me 25 cents."
After saying this, he was afraid that Jiang Yue would not believe him, so he poured out all the crayfish and only weighed the bucket for Jiang Yue to see.
"Mom, mom!" Ningning looked at the crayfish crawling all over the ground and was so scared that she hid behind Jiang Yue.
The little boy hurriedly caught the crayfish one by one and grinned at Ningning, "Don't be afraid, little sister. I will help you catch all the giant worms!"
"You're pretty quick at calculating. What grade are you in?" Jiang Yue saw that the little boy was very smart. He calculated the money right after weighing the things.
"I studied for two years, but now I don't want to study anymore." The little boy smiled and took the money from Jiang Yue. He asked Jiang Yue, "Sister, did you pack your things? If not, you can take my bucket back. I'll still be here tomorrow, so just bring it to me."
"That's great!" Jiang Yue only brought a vegetable basket today. She did bring a net bag, but the mesh was so small that all the crayfish would run away before she even got home.
"What's your name? I'll probably come to buy groceries at this time tomorrow and bring the bucket to you then." Jiang Yue asked.
"My name is Li Jun. It's okay if you give it to me a few days later, sister!" The little boy grinned with his white teeth.
Jiang Yue never expected that she only spent 26 cents to buy more than 8 kilograms of crayfish, and looking at the color of the shell, the head, and the big claws, they were all wild.
In order to cook crayfish deliciously, seasoning is essential. Jiang Yue quickly took Ningning to the store and bought all the seasonings. She also bought two bottles of beer and side dishes such as cucumbers and onions.
When Jiang Yue arrived at the supply and marketing cooperative, he saw the young man from Hu Jiang Village squatting under the eaves from afar.
"Brother, I'm sorry, I'm late!" Jiang Yue saw at a glance that there was a small chair at the man's feet. It was made of dark yellow rattan and the craftsmanship was as good as ever.
"How much is it? This chair is so beautiful!" Jiang Yue hurriedly took out the money.
"Girl, don't be in a hurry to give me the money. I don't know if this chair fits your bicycle. Take it back and try it first. Pay for it if it fits!" The young man said with a blushing face when he saw Jiang Yue.
"No, no!" Jiang Yue said with a smile, "I'll give you the money first. If there's anything that doesn't fit, I can come back and ask you to adjust it."
"That's fine!" The man scratched his head and said embarrassedly, "Just give me three dollars for the chair."
"Okay!" Jiang Yue now knows that although prices are low these days, handmade products like this are not cheap. The summer bed and chair she bought last time are such products. A summer bed is worth a month's salary for an ordinary worker.
"Well, I'll take the money!" The man felt even more embarrassed when he saw Jiang Yue gave him money without saying a word. Fortunately, he was dark-skinned, so his blushing could not be seen.
"Of course! Of course!" Jiang Yue was very satisfied with the small chair. She installed it on the back seat of her bicycle when she got home. This way, when she goes to the county town in the future, she can take Ningning with her on her bicycle without worrying about Ningning falling off.
"Brother, is your surname Hu?" Jiang Yue remembered that the brother who sold rattan weavings said they were from Hujiang Village. She wanted to get to know such a craftsman so that if she had any needs in the future, she could directly contact them for customization.
"No, my last name is Jiang!"
Jiang Yue: “…I’m sorry.” She was so embarrassed. She thought everyone in Hujiang Village had the surname Hu, but she didn’t expect that everyone in this village had the surname Jiang.
"Half of the people in our village are surnamed Hu and half are surnamed Jiang," the man smiled. "My name is Jiang Bing. What's your surname, young lady?"
Jiang Yue also smiled, "My last name is Jiang, the Jiang of ginger, and my name is Jiang Yue."
Jiang Bing was very happy because he finally knew the girl's name. What's more, what a coincidence, his surname was Jiang and hers was Jiang, which sounded almost the same.
"Miss Jiang, where did you get such a bucket of giant worms?" Jiang Bing just saw Jiang Yue carrying a bucket full of giant worms and couldn't help asking.
"I bought it." Jiang Yue handed the small chair to Ningning and prepared to go home with the basket and her beloved crayfish.
She had already thought about it on the way here just now, half of the crayfish is spicy and the other half is thirteen spices.
"Bought it? How much did you pay for it?" Jiang Bing shook his head when he heard that Jiang Yue spent three cents per pound to buy these giant worms. "Miss Jiang, you've been cheated. No one wants this stuff at even a cent per pound. The rice fields are full of it. The giant worms have powerful claws and dig holes everywhere on the ridges of the fields. The water that has been stored in the rice fields leaks out. We can catch dozens or even hundreds of pounds of it in one night and throw it all away."
