Chapter 21 Fried Breadgrass & Fried Pork Chop

The leaves of breadgrass look like a soft, fluffy cloud, with edges that are not the serrated edges commonly found on earth's leaves, and the light brown veins look just like the crust of toast.

Xu Milu gently squeezed it, and the soft leaves unfolded in her palm, even smelling of wheat. This made her marvel once again at the wonder of this world.

It was lunchtime, so she lit a fire and placed a stone slab on top of it.

A piece of pork chop with alternating layers of fat and lean meat is being pan-fried on a stone slab. The white fat shrinks rapidly as it gets heated, and the unique aroma of meat quickly fills the air.

Not far away by the stream, the carcass of a small rabbit-shaped animal was pierced through a tree branch, its head drooping downwards, its bright red eyes devoid of the vitality it once possessed.

She's become quite adept at doing these things now.

Seeing that no one was around, Xu Milu took out a deep-fried dandelion from her storage compartment. It was stored in the system compartment and was still at the temperature of when it was just picked.

She currently only occupies two of the five system slots. One slot is used to store the fried dandelions obtained from the fried village, and the other slot is used to store emergency medicines and miscellaneous items such as kitchen utensils.

Xu Milu plans to upgrade the storage compartments as soon as she gets back, otherwise she will always worry that she won't have enough storage compartments.

The fist-sized milk berries were squeezed open, and the milky white liquid fell into the pot, boiling as the flames licked it, creating a cloud of milk bubbles the size of fish eyes.

The pork chops were rendered of excess oil at high temperatures, and Xu Milu didn't waste any of it. She placed freshly picked breadgrass leaves on a stone slab to fry.

The liquid fat completely soaked into the soft toast slices, bringing out a unique wheat aroma.

Once the ambiguous period between the pork chop and the flames was over, Xu Milu quickly flipped it over. The dark brown pork chop sizzled on the stone slab, quietly waiting for its transformation.

The aroma of fried bread wafted along the riverbank. Xu Milu sprinkled only a little salt, then sandwiched the pork chop into the bread, added a fried dandelion with a fried chicken flavor, and it was the quickest lunch imaginable.

When breadgrass leaves are fried in oil, the outer skin is crispy, while the inside is surprisingly soft. The outer skin absorbs a lot of oil and is infused with an indescribable aroma of wheat and meat.

"Click".

The double crispy texture comes from the fried chicken and dandelion and the bread slices. With one bite, your teeth first come into contact with the crispy bread slices, followed by the meaty fried chicken and dandelion, and then the juicy and tender meat patties.

With no vegetables as garnish, only the purest meaty experience, it's a carnival for meat lovers and the best comfort for hunger.

"Click".

"Click".

Xu Milu ate bite after bite of this lunch made with whatever ingredients she could find, her face full of pure happiness.

...

...

Soon, Xu Milu finished off a pork chop weighing over two pounds, eight slices of toast, and three whole fried dandelions. She even made use of the remaining toast crusts, frying them in animal fat into crispy little cookies, wrapping them in large leaves, and saving them to eat on the way in the afternoon.

"It seems it wasn't just my imagination; my appetite is getting bigger and bigger."

Xu Milu touched her flat stomach, feeling somewhat conflicted.

Did the food she ate go to another dimension?!

"Glug glug..."

The milk in the small pot boiled violently, and a sweet aroma wafted out. Xu Milu fanned her nose with her hand and identified that it smelled very much like almond milk.

It tastes like hot almond milk, warm and without any fishy smell. A layer of pale yellow milk skin has formed on the surface of the milk, and it tastes somewhat like cheese.

...

...

After lunch, Xu Milu decided to continue her journey in one go. Remembering the wonderful taste of breadgrass and milk fruit, she picked some of each and put them in her bag.

Just as she extinguished the fire, Xu Milu suddenly stopped what she was doing, straightened up, and looked into the dense forest behind her.

Not far away, countless startled birds took flight in the sky above the mountains and forests, as if they were fleeing in panic. The treetops swayed, causing a green hue to ripple, as if some large creature was rushing through the forest towards Xu Milu's direction!

"!"

Xu Milu's expression changed, alarm bells rang in her mind, and her legs moved faster than her brain. Before she could even think about what it was, she darted out like a nimble leopard!

She swore she had never run so fast before.

The wind rushed past her ears, but the sound behind her grew closer and closer, until she could feel the stench and heat emanating from behind her!

"Woof!!"

A gust of wind flashed by, and Xu Milu instinctively ducked to avoid it, rolling twice on the ground as she narrowly escaped an attack from the dark figure behind her!

—It was a very familiar Mastiff, with fluffy red fur, round ears, and a pure white "V" mark on its neck.

It was the leader of the Mastiffs that led the attack that killed Puka!

Xu Milu's heart tightened. She didn't know why this Mastiff would attack her, and why it was an attack with such a clear purpose. But the situation was urgent and she didn't have time to think. She rolled away again!

"Awooo!!!"

The giant hand missed again, and a patch of wildflowers was completely destroyed. A small bird living in the bushes was unfortunately smashed into a pulp.

Xu Milu couldn't worry about the little bird. The giant bear in front of her was three meters long when it stood up, like a mountain of flesh, bringing a strong sense of oppression.

She suddenly understood the fear that Earthlings felt when facing wild beasts.

This thing is three meters long. One slap from it could crush not only a skull, but even a concrete pillar. Who wouldn't be scared if it hit them?!
