Chapter 4 [Magnificent Interstellar Space] Extraterrestrial Specialties

The fist-sized Ace aliens shuttle back and forth on the pink ranch road, working diligently.

Countless mature brain berries were transported away, and Mobaka spent most of his time on the Star Network, yet the ranch still managed to operate smoothly, thanks in no small part to these Ace aliens.

Xu Milu carefully observed these Ace people.

These interesting little creatures don't have vocal organs, and they seem to communicate with their companions in some special way.

A worker the size of a ping-pong ball hopped over, pointed at a red cactus, and exclaimed to his companion: 【??!】

—It seemed unaware that its actions were being broadcast live on the StarNet, and winked at its companion through Xu Milu's phantom image:

【№??】

The other Ace alien jumped twice in confusion, then turned its body, its huge eyelids opening and closing. Xu Milu actually saw happiness in one of its eyeballs: 【?! 】

The two Ace aliens huddled together and talked for a while. Then, the second Ace alien followed the first Ace alien away, followed by the third, the fourth, the fifth...

One by one, most of the workers on the farm left in an orderly line. Even the workers who operated the machines jumped off the machines and skipped and hopped toward the ranch gate.

Xu Milu immediately understood.

It turns out it's lunchtime.

"The lifespan of the Ace people is very short, generally between three thousand and five thousand universal time, or between one hundred and twenty-five universal days and two hundred universal days."

Dada Mathil enthusiastically acted as a tour guide, explaining the ranch to Xu Milu:

"The Ace aliens use pheromones to communicate with others, which makes them several times more efficient than others."

They are truly excellent workers, working three full universe hours a day for very low wages, yet they take meticulous care of the berry trees.

Mobaka, floating in the air, patted its tentacles, and its round, transparent head squeezed over, clearly agreeing with Dada's statement:

"Ace, it's a great deal! You work hard, but it's awesome!"

Dada Mathil nodded enviously, then spread his hands at Xu Milu, his bluish knuckles cracking.

"Honestly, if you want to hire these little guys, you'll have to contact the Federal Welfare Association."

If I didn't hate dealing with those people from the Federation Guild, I'd consider hiring some Ace aliens to help in the kitchen of my restaurant. Their little claws are much more flexible than my bones!

Working three universe hours a day would be roughly six hours, including lunchtime.

The job involves a six-hour workday, with meals and accommodation provided, a salary, holidays off, and welfare guild members to protect your rights...

Xu Milu almost wanted to ask if the ranch was still hiring.

...

Despite knowing that the surrounding natural environment was a one-to-one simulation of reality, Xu Milu was still attracted to the crops in the brain ranch.

I'm not sure how to say "brain" in Mobaka, but everything on the ranch seemed particularly hardcore and interesting.

There are landmine fruits that grow in the ground and explode when their roots and stems mature. Their outer skin is a pale green color that makes them look inedible.

There's also a light pink Mopaca banana, only the thickness of a finger, which, when broken open, reveals transparent frog eggs; I've heard it tastes sweet.

There is also a type of bamboo lettuce that grows to two meters tall, has no leaves, and is entirely purple. It only softens when it matures, and iron tools must be used when harvesting it, otherwise it will turn into disgusting pus.

"There are a total of 387 kinds of organisms with medicinal and edible value on the ranch. The most popular crop is of course the ranch's signature, the brain berry."

Lorna sometimes orders raw materials from here when making potions.

—It’s clear that Dada Mathilde and Mobaka are very good friends, which is why he knows so much about the crops on Mobaka’s ranch.

He swayed his head, and as he moved, a touch of vibrancy appeared on his bluish-gray head:

“‘Sad Brain Berry’ is one of my specialties, you should definitely try it—I mean, when you come to Martil, you absolutely have to try it.”

"It sounds delicious, I'm already looking forward to it."

Xu Milu politely accepted the invitation, but she really couldn't guess what the dish tasted like just from its name.

While StarNet supports uploading small quantities of goods, there are strict restrictions. Fresh produce, such as ingredients, cannot be purchased directly and must be ordered online and then shipped offline.

— "Starcom" express delivery claims that, except for black holes, it can deliver packages to anyone, even if the recipient falls into a time-space turbulence.

Mobaka led the way enthusiastically, his tentacles behind him like fluttering red velvet:

"We've arrived."

Beyond rows of neatly arranged, cactus-like red plants, one can see countless shallow oval pits.

These pits are not deep, but they cover a large area, and the plants planted in them have strange shapes:

The dark brown roots gripped the ground firmly to draw nutrients, the thick purple stems were covered with white down, and at the very top of the plant was an enormous, spherical flower bud that looked like an upside-down lily of the valley.

These flower buds vary in size, some as large as a washbasin, others just beginning to develop, only the size of an orange.

The flower buds are brightly colored, displaying a highly saturated fluorescent red, with orange-yellow zebra stripes on top of the red.

Each shallow pit contained a plant like this, and Xu Milu found it hard to connect the plants in front of her with the "berries" in her memory.

What's most strange is that this plant seems to be conscious; not only do its roots, which are clinging to the ground, slowly wriggle, but even its white downy hairs open and close as if breathing.
