Very thin.
This was Xu Milu's first impression of Guan Wenyan.
He looked to be around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, with a tall and straight figure, a slender face, and features that gave him a somewhat exotic, mixed-race appearance. His skin was an unusual kind of white, and the corner of his black chef's uniform was embroidered with the traditional Chinese character "关" (Guan). The contrast between black and white accentuated his composure.
I am very confident about this competition.
Guan Wenyan said in a deep voice, his slightly raised eyebrows revealing a hint of restraint, his obsidian-like eyes fixed on the camera:
There's an old Chinese saying that good things come to those who wait. It's a pity that this competition was postponed due to certain objective reasons. But as a chef, I look forward to meeting other young chefs. Culinary skills are an art of integration; it's not advisable to work in isolation.
"There are countless ingredients in the world, and chefs are artists who constantly put them together and adjust them."
Xu Milu nodded in agreement, already looking forward to seeing what dishes she would see in today's preliminary rounds:
"Guan Wenyan... is not quite what I imagined. I thought he would be a more traditional chef, but he doesn't seem to be."
—Like the Cui family, the Guan family is an old-fashioned culinary family, and their ancestors even included imperial chefs.
Guan Wenyan created his own menu at the age of fifteen, and in his early twenties, he made a name for himself in the World Chef Competition with his exquisite vegetarian dishes. After returning to China, he became the head chef of a hotel under his own company and won numerous awards.
Even Xu Milu often heard Cui Shengguo praise Guan Wenyan's self-created star-rated menu. She heard that there were only eight dishes on the menu, but Guan Wenyan had carefully studied each one. Any one of them could be a signature dish in a sizable restaurant.
...
...
As she analyzed the situation intently, Cui Qingli, sitting on the sofa, covered her face and hissed, staring at her as if she were some oblivious monster.
"Junior Martial Aunt, I told you to pay special attention, and this is how you pay special attention?"
"How much more attention do you need? I'm already watching his matches with an immersive device. If I pay any more attention, I'll become what you call a sasaeng fan, okay?"
Xu Milu spoke in a relaxed tone, sitting cross-legged on the sofa:
"The competition organizing committee announced the draw order yesterday. Guan Wenyan and Andre from Canada are in Group A, and they will face off against the chefs who were drawn today. Mishima Sayuri from Japan and Jack Brown from the United States are in Group B, and their match is tomorrow..."
"Who told you that?"
Cui Qingli couldn't resist rushing over and pinching Xu Milu's soft cheeks, saying earnestly:
"I'm telling you to look at people! Look at people! Guan Wenyan! Isn't that face outstanding? Isn't a tall, suit-wearing, aloof, CEO-like man more appealing?! Have you gone crazy from staying home cooking all day? Can't you think of anything else besides cooking?"
Xu Milu puffed out her cheeks, only then belatedly realizing what Cui Qingli meant:
"Are you... introducing me to someone?"
"You've finally come to your senses!"
Cui Qingli breathed a sigh of relief and reluctantly touched Xu Milu's face one last time:
"I haven't seen you use any cosmetics usually, and your skin feels pretty good... cough cough, I'm getting off topic, I meant, what do you think of Guan Wenyan's appearance?"
Xu Milu glanced at him up and down, then nodded quite honestly: "It's alright."
She wasn't lying at all. Putting aside how many androgynous elves and half-elves she had seen, even a random rat spirit from the Journey to the West world would be tall and strong with sword-like eyebrows and bright eyes when transformed into human form. Lavinia, whose arm she had cut off, was also exceptionally handsome, not to mention top male gods like Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen.
Having seen so many beautiful people, her aesthetic taste has improved significantly.
"You call this 'okay'?"
Cui Qingli's eyes widened in surprise:
"Your standards for a partner are way too high! The only one you'd be interested in would be an angel—"
"Even if Guan Wenyan is a celestial being, it has little to do with me."
Xu Milu shrugged: "The topic that Group A drew today is 'the sea,' which happens to be an area that Guan Wenyan is not very good at. I am more concerned about what dish he will cook today than about him as a person."
"Little nun, you really are stubborn."
Cui Qingli winked and lowered her voice like a thief:
“Little Martial Aunt, you know that we close friends all have a group chat, right? We're all in the same circle, and we're all related by blood. We all know each other. This morning, Guan Wenyan messaged me, asking for your WeChat, but I didn't give it to him.”
"Guan Wenyan wants my WeChat?"
Xu Milu frowned, her expression becoming extremely serious:
"Could he be trying to test my final menu? Hmm, he's taking a guest challenger like me so seriously. He must be a very meticulous person."
Cui Qingli: "Why isn't it because he has feelings for you? The kind of feelings between a man and a woman?"
"Feelings of affection?"
Xu Milu calmly retorted, "I had never even heard of him before participating in the competition, and he probably hadn't either. How can two people who have never even met feel a connection? Are they going to have their souls out of their bodies?"
"That's because you're so famous in our circle, Junior Aunt..."
Cui Qingli muttered:
"Even if you haven't appeared in public before, Grandpa has already boasted to his old friends that the news of you mastering the Cui family's knife technique in just half a month has already spread far and wide."
Every time I go home, I see my dad using you as a role model, saying that you are like God chasing after you to feed you, and that you study recipes in seclusion every day. Who in the industry doesn't know that you spent more than a month at home studying recipes?
