☆, Chapter 15 Listen to her talk about the past

When Wen Yuci came out of the shower, he heard thunder outside. He opened the curtains and lightning flashed before his eyes.

The thunder was so loud and the dark sky gave people an invisible sense of oppression.

Suddenly, there seemed to be a bolt of lightning striking the yard, and then all the lights in the villa went out.

The lightning seemed to have damaged the electrical wires. Wen Yuci frowned and turned on his phone to find someone to repair it. Suddenly, he thought of something and immediately walked towards Shu Wanning with his phone.

The lights suddenly went out, and Shu Wanning curled up in the rocking chair like a frightened rabbit, covering her ears tightly with her hands.

There seemed to be sounds of laughter echoing in her ears, and before her eyes was the scene of her being imprisoned that year.

The sound of thunder and lightning continued to grow louder in its ears, as if it was hurting them, and the arms wrapped around its body trembled uncontrollably.

Wen Yuci knocked on the door but received no response. He opened the door and, in the light of lightning, saw a person wrapped in a thin blanket in a rocking chair.

He strode over, gently stroked Shu Wanning's back, and said in a soft voice, "Shu Wanning, it's me."

He wasn't sure whether she was afraid of the dark or thunder, so he could only pat her back gently to comfort her. Shu Wanning couldn't stop trembling under the thin blanket.

Wen Yuci lifted a corner of the thin blanket, turned on the flashlight of his mobile phone and stuffed it in, then hugged the person tightly in his arms, his eyes heavy, and the words he wanted to comfort were stuck in his throat.

A warm breath surrounded Shu Wanning. She held her cell phone tightly and slowly opened her eyes. Her palms were already soaked with sweat.

Fortunately, the faulty wires were quickly repaired and the lights in the house were restored. Shu Wanning lifted the blanket over her head with trembling hands, and Wen Yuci slowly let her go from his arms.

She was covered in cold sweat and her face was incredibly pale. When she looked up at him, her eyes were a little dull.

"It's okay." he said.

"Thanks."

Her voice was hoarse. Wen Yuci handed her a tissue to wipe her sweat and asked in a low voice, "Are you afraid of the dark or thunder?"

"Afraid of the dark."

Wen Yuci found a bottle of juice from her snack cabinet, unscrewed it and handed it to her, then sat on the chair next to her and looked at her still trembling hands.

The thunder outside continued. Shu Wanning stood up with the help of a chair, looked at Wen Yuci and asked in confusion, "Why does your house always have power outages?"

"Last time it was man-made, this time it was lightning."

He took back his phone, edited the message and sent it out, saying, "Don't worry, it won't happen again."

Shu Wanning didn't answer. She put down the blanket and said, "Thank you for tonight, but I'm going to take a shower now."

Wen Yuci nodded and asked, "Do you want to eat something to relieve the pain?"

"Any wine?"

Wen Yuci stood up and smiled, "I'll go downstairs and get it. After you finish your shower, open the door and I'll come up."

He opened the wine cellar downstairs and spent a long time screening through the many wines. Finally, he chose a bottle of fruit wine with the lowest alcohol content and no aftertaste.

Then he picked out two wine glasses, and when he walked out of the wine cellar, he found that Shu Wanning's door was open.

After entering the room, Wen Yuci placed the wine on the coffee table, handed half a glass of wine to Shu Wanning, raised his hand to clink glasses with her, and noticed her newly changed blanket out of the corner of his eye.

"You bought quite a few blankets." Wen Yuci teased.

Shu Wanning leaned back in the rocking chair, gently shook the wine glass in his hand, took a sip, and then put the glass down.

There was still thunder and lightning outside the window. Shu Wanning looked out the window and said softly, "I was ten years old when I was adopted by the Shu family. Shu Min's daughter Shu Xin was seven years old at that time.

After I was adopted, I knew that the only value of my existence was to help Shu Xin find a husband. When I first entered the Shu family that year, Shu Min and his wife Zhao Wei asked me to learn ballet.

When I refused to go, they locked me up in a closed basement, without a single ray of light, for three days in the dead of winter.

She tilted her head to look at Wen Yuci. Even though she felt he was trustworthy, she only told him half of the story. She knew that even if she didn't tell him, he would be able to find out.

Wen Yuci didn't hide the pain in his eyes, and asked her softly, "Does the Shu family often lock you up in the basement?"

"Well, I was locked up for making mistakes, being disobedient, and when Shu Xin played pranks on me. After being locked up for so long, I started to be afraid of the dark, the cold, being hungry, and even more afraid of that basement."

Wen Yuci held the phone tightly in his hand, feeling distressed. He had checked and found out that she had been adopted three times, but had never received love each time.

He took a sip of wine, suppressed the strange look in his eyes, and said, "Buy whatever you like, you don't need to worry about anything. Just tell Aunt Jing what you want to eat."

Shu Wanning nodded and smiled, "Then sell your Wen Group to me."

Seeing her smile, he reached out to Shu Wanning and said jokingly, "Give me the money first."

“No money.”

Hearing this, Wen Yuci revealed a look of regret and shook his head: "Then it can't be sold."

Shu Wanning picked up the wine glass and took a sip. Suddenly, an idea flashed through her mind. She put down the wine glass and looked at the man opposite her, and asked softly:

"Do you have any ex-girlfriends? Will there ever be a time when I need to deal with your emotional troubles?"

"No, my private life is very clean."

Hearing this, Shu Wanning nodded: "That's good. I don't really like getting along with people."

The two of them sat quietly, chatting casually. For the first time in all these years, Shu Wanning felt the company of someone.

As time went by, the wine in the bottle gradually ran out.

Wen Yuci took out his cell phone from his pocket and gently placed it on the coffee table. Then he looked up at Shu Wanning, raised the corner of his mouth slightly, and said slowly:

"I don't think there's any newlywed couple who doesn't have each other's contact information."

Shu Wanning had thought about this before. She took out her phone and added his contact information. Seeing this, Wen Yuci put away his phone and stood up.

"Then you should get some rest early. If you have anything, call me. My phone is on 24 hours a day."

Shu Wanning watched him leave, put down the blanket and climbed into bed. She was not sleepy at all, her mind was in a mess, and the scene of Wen Yuci hugging her was still lingering in her mind.

The next morning, when Wen Yuming woke up, Wen Yuci was already waiting for him in the living room. Seeing him come downstairs, he asked, "How long are you going to stay here?"

Wen Yuming sat beside him with a gloomy face and said, "Brother, just let me stay for a while longer!"

"Then come with me to the company and learn something useful."

Upon hearing this, Wen Yuming immediately jumped up from the sofa and shouted, "I'm leaving today! I'm going to ask Brother Qingchen to take me in!"

He ran upstairs in a flash. Wen Yuci shook his head. When asked to go to the company, he ran faster than anyone else.
