Chapter 4 Don’t take other people’s kindness for granted

Lin Shuying's body temperature had dropped to 37.5 degrees in the middle of the night, and by the morning it had basically subsided.

After hanging three more bottles of water during the day, the family of four was able to be discharged from the hospital with their medicine.

Chen Chunhua waited until Lin Guoqing paid all the fees before directing her to go out and buy some oranges.

"The doctor is kind-hearted, so we can't take it for granted. If you don't have money to give a red envelope, just buy a few oranges as a token of your appreciation. No need to say anything more, just put the bag down and come out."

Chen Chunhua took her two children and waited at the hospital entrance. After Lin Guoqing came out, they took the boat home together.

Doctor Wang happened to be in the restroom and didn't see Lin Guoqing come in to put the oranges away. When he came back and saw the bag of oranges, he was stunned for a moment. After learning from the nurses' station that it was the family of three from yesterday, he smiled and shook his head.

"Oh, these oranges would be great for the children to eat. They can also supplement their vitamins."

Lin Shumei had been crying all afternoon. In fact, she had cried for half the night before. However, there was nothing special about her aunt's house except that there were many sisters. She was sleepy and fell asleep while squeezing in among her sisters.

It's not possible during the day. She hasn't seen her parents for almost a day and a night. Now she is holding on to the corner of her third brother's clothes, crying against him, refusing to move a step, and not letting him move a step.

Lin Shuchao squatted on the ground and poked ants in frustration. He missed his father, mother, brothers and sisters, but he couldn't cry.

My aunt said that he was already a brother and a real man, and he should set an example for his sister. If he started crying, his sister would be even more unable to control herself.

Seeing that the entire nest of ants was about to be wiped out by him, he finally heard a fucking sound.

"Chaochao! Xiaomei!"

He threw the branch in his hand to the ground and stood up quickly.

"Mom! Dad!" He grabbed his little sister who was still crying, and ran forward. The four-year-old led the two-year-old, and both of them stumbled as they ran. When they were almost in front of Chen Chunhua, Lin Shumei accidentally tripped over her left foot and pounced forward.

Chen Chunhua quickly caught her daughter. Lin Shumei was hugged by her mother and immediately started giggling, blowing a huge snot bubble while laughing.

"Oh, you guys are finally back! Shumei's voice is almost hoarse from crying!"

Lin Guoqing's eldest sister, Lin Yulan, came over, wiping her apron with her hands. A middle-aged woman in her thirties, her face was full of traces of time. Chen Chunhua didn't think so before, but now looking back, she had to admit that what the children said later made sense -

Childbirth is the biggest aging agent for a woman.

Lin Yulan looked at Lin Shuying, who was standing beside her brother and sister-in-law and teasing her little niece, with a look of concern, and reached out to touch her forehead.

"How's Shuying? You look much better now... Yeah, you're not burning anymore. You looked so scary yesterday. Your mom was going crazy!"

The little girl called out "Auntie" shyly, and then said she was fine.

"The doctor said it was mild pneumonia. I went in time, so it's not a big deal. I've been on IV drip for two days, yesterday and today. I just need to go home, take medicine and rest."

Lin Guoqing stood aside, holding the third child, Lin Shuchao, in one hand and handing him a bag with the other. "Sister, I bought some oranges for the children to try..."

Lin Yulan pretended to be angry and pushed him away. "What are you doing? Why are you buying oranges for our family? Shuying is sick, why don't you save them for them?"

"No, you have to take it. If you hadn't helped take care of the child yesterday, how could we feel at ease going to the provincial hospital!" Chen Chunhua spoke quickly and stuffed the bag of oranges into Lin Yulan's hands.

"Xiaomei cries so much, you and your brother-in-law probably didn't sleep well yesterday..."

Lin Yulan was easy to talk to, and when she took the oranges from her younger brothers and sisters, her tone became even more kind.

"Well, the child is still young, it's normal for him to cry when he's away from his mother. I don't have to go to work, so it's okay if I can't sleep well one night. I'm taking care of the children anyway, so it doesn't matter if I take care of one or two..."

Lin Yulan had married well. Her husband was the accountant for the village production team. When the team was disbanded, he would be promoted to village secretary. Although life was poor these days, at least her family wouldn't starve. Her parents-in-law were able to take care of themselves and work, so there wasn't much pressure.

The only difficulty is that she can't give birth to a son. She already has eight daughters, and she's still desperately trying to have a son. She's pregnant with her ninth child! If you don't know, you might think the captain's position is hereditary, as if a son can take over.

Although their family did not mistreat their eight daughters, Shen Chunhua had never seen another family in the surrounding area that pursued sons like their family did, even in this era.

Moreover, Chen Chunhua knew that her sister-in-law's family was probably childless, and the baby in Lin Yulan's belly was a daughter, but she didn't dare to say it, for fear of being suspected of cursing others.

Anyway, this is my last child, and we have family planning now, so it’s impossible to have another one.

It seemed like Lin Yulan had been spending her entire life pregnant, giving birth, and raising children. She didn't have to go out to work, nor did she have time to work. The laundry at home was enough to keep her busy. She was busy from morning to night every day, either washing clothes for a dozen people or cooking for a dozen people.

So she said that she was the one taking care of the children anyway, whether it was one or two. In the end, it was not actually her who took care of the children. The eldest in her family was almost eighteen years old and could help with housework and take care of the children, so it was not a big problem.

But Chen Chunhua has always been unwilling to owe favors to others. Just as she said to Lin Guoqing, no matter how kind others are, no matter how convenient it is, they should not take it for granted.

What should be given and what should be thanked should still be done.

"Yesterday... do you know what our mother ate?" Lin Guoqing suddenly remembered this while they were chatting and asked Lin Yulan,

Although he had told Liang Shengdi to make her own lunch before leaving yesterday, he suspected that Liang Shengdi had not listened at all.

He was really worried that his mother would starve to death. The old lady was actually capable of doing such a thing as not even noticing a piece of bread hanging around her neck.

Speaking of her own mother, Lin Yulan sighed helplessly, "I went to bring her food last night, and when I brought it to her, she was lying in bed crying out for food! She said she hadn't eaten since lunch, and she said we were both heartless and that no one cared whether she lived or died."

Lin Guoqing and Lin Yulan, brother and sister, are really helpless with their mother.

Although they do not have such deep feelings for their biological mother, they are not unfilial. The filial piety that is ingrained in the Chinese nation makes it impossible for them to abandon the old lady.

But Liang Shengdi is really an extremely strange person. The things she does are difficult for ordinary people to understand.
