Confrontation
It was a Sunday morning, and my parents' car had just been taken in for maintenance. Wen Zhili drove them home from a foreign trade fair. After dinner, they were going to fly abroad on a business trip.
My sister didn't have classes, but she said she didn't want to go out, so she stayed home waiting for them.
As the three of them walked downstairs to the residential complex, Lu Wanqing's eyes suddenly shone with golden light.
"Hey, you two, look ahead."
Wen Zhili followed her gaze.
It was Wen Yan, with her back to them. Opposite her stood the girl with the mullet that day, holding a bouquet of roses.
"Wen Yan, I really like you!"
As she spoke, the girl placed some flowers in front of her.
Wen Yan was stunned.
She was stunned for a moment, then awkwardly pushed the bouquet back and said politely, "Um... I'm sorry, I have someone I like."
The girl's expression instantly became lonely, but she still asked without giving up: "Are you with her?"
"……not yet."
Wen Yan lowered her eyes and said, "We will be together."
…
In the distance, Lu Wanqing said with a look of satisfaction: "It's great that our Yanyan has attracted such a beautiful girl."
Wen Jie, however, looked unhappy. "It's better not to be gay these days."
"really."
Lu Wanqing nodded.
She turned around to discuss the gossip with her eldest daughter, but suddenly saw a face that was so cold that it was almost dripping with water.
——It’s this scene again.
Wen Zhili felt a little annoyed.
She walked directly towards them.
Lu Wanqing stood there in a daze. Her eldest daughter had always been gentle, calm and steady. When had she ever looked so ugly?
She's so protective of her sister... is it really that serious?
…
"Yanyan."
Wen Yan turned his head and found a faint gaze.
She was stunned for two seconds before timidly calling out, "Sister...you're back."
"Um."
Wen Zhili answered Wen Yan, but his eyes were directed at the girl.
"Sister... Hello, sister."
"Well, it's getting late, let's go home and have dinner."
"Oh ok, bye sis!"
The girl was inexplicably chilled by Wen Zhili's gaze, and she quickly slipped away after saying goodbye.
Wen Yan took the initiative to walk a few steps towards her sister, pulled the corner of her clothes, and called her softly: "Sister..."
"She called me out of the blue this morning and said she wanted to come to the neighborhood to see me. She didn't say what... I didn't expect it, so... well, sister..."
Wen Zhili hummed softly and said as if nothing had happened: "Go home, Yanyan."
…
At the dinner table, Lu Wanqing naturally brought up this topic with great interest.
"Hey, Yanyan, did you promise me?"
Wen Yan held his forehead helplessly.
"Of course not, Mom, I don't like her at all."
Wen Jie said, "It's better if you don't like it. Don't try to imitate other homosexuals."
Wen Yan's face froze when she heard that. She glanced at Wen Zhili out of the corner of her eye, but the other person was still eating without changing his expression.
Lu Wanqing also chimed in: "I think so too. It's not that Mom and Dad are feudal, we deal with foreigners every day, and we see this kind of thing a lot."
"But in our country, it's still too difficult to take this path. Friends and relatives are prone to making fun of you. It's best not to like girls."
"Do you know, Yanyan?"
"Mom, I have a sister and that's enough."
There was some comfort hidden in her words.
"How can you stick with your sister forever? She's going to have her own family someday. You'd better meet more boys while you're in college. It'll be harder to find one once you enter society. Right, Xiaoli?"
Wen Yan turned to look at her, but Wen Zhili did not meet her gaze.
"Yes."
Wen Yan frowned.
——People often say that separation usually has a warning sign.
"Speaking of which, Xiaoli, last time Mom asked you to spend more time with the boys at work, have you been able to do so?"
"……have."
"Is there anything suitable?"
Wen Zhili lowered his eyes.
"Um."
"What do you think of the young man? Is he handsome?"
"Well enough."
"Then wait until he's more stable and then take him home to show his parents?"
“…”
"OK."
Wen Yan suddenly stood up and held Wen Zhili's wrist.
"Come here."
Wen Jie and Lu Wanqing were both stunned by her sudden action.
"Why are you suddenly angry? No matter what, you can't be so mean to your sister, understand? We have to talk things over nicely."
Wen Jie frowned.
Wen Zhili looked at his sister calmly, then gave his parents a reassuring look.
"It's okay, Mom and Dad. I promised Yanyan something but didn't do it."
"Just put your dishes here after you finish eating. Yanyan and I will leave for a while." Then she stood up and was pulled by Wen Yan to her room.
After the two left, Wen Jie asked his wife in confusion: "What happened to these two people?"
Lu Wanqing also frowned in confusion.
She thought about the topic they had just talked about, her two daughters' reactions, and the two hands caressing each other in the dark during the New Year.
A ridiculous idea suddenly popped up in her mind, but she quickly suppressed it.
"I don't know. Wasn't he fine just now?"
…
As soon as they entered the room, Wen Yan pushed Wen Zhili against the door. Only then did Wen Zhili notice that the window of the room was not closed and it suddenly started raining heavily outside.
The anger in the girl's eyes burned along with the sound of the rain.
"What's the meaning?"
"Even if you don't confess our relationship, you can't tell your parents that you're with a man, right?"
Wen Zhili still responded to her questioning with a calm gaze.
She didn't answer, but asked: "What is our relationship?"
Wen Yan was stunned, and opened her lips but said nothing. After all, they had never agreed to be together.
Wen Zhili answered for her: "We are sisters, I am your elder sister."
Wen Yan frowned deeply, and the familiar premonition surrounded her again.
"so?"
"We're always going to separate."
After saying that, she added: "I've been here long enough...it's time to go."
A loud thunder suddenly rolled outside the window, and Wen Yan looked at her in shock.
"Are you leaving again?"
"Have you always thought this way? Even though we are so happy, you always want to leave me?"
Wen Zhili didn't say anything again, leaving only the sound of raindrops hitting the window frame one after another.
Wen Yan turned his head away with some anger.
"No, I don't want to. I don't want to be separated from you again." Her words were filled with anger and grievance. "I won't accept it unless you don't love me anymore. Unless you look me in the eyes and tell me clearly that you don't love me. Can you say it?"
"Do you dare to say you don't love me?"
Wen Zhili closed his eyes, and the wind with rain blew across his face.
