new year
New Year's Day.
Early in the morning, the sound of firecrackers outside the house disturbed the two sisters' sweet dreams.
Wen Yan hummed twice in dissatisfaction. Just as he was about to cover his head with the quilt, he suddenly felt a pair of warm hands covering his ears.
She struggled to open her eyelids a crack, only to see that her sister was also too sleepy to open her eyes, but she still helped her cover her ears in a daze.
She came over, held her sister in her arms, rubbed her chin against the top of her sister's head, and whispered softly: "Sleep a little longer, Yanyan..."
Wen Yan also rubbed her sister's chin, but she was so sleepy that before she could linger for a while, she fell asleep again in this warm embrace.
When she opened her eyes again, her sister was standing by the bed, changing her clothes.
The other person didn't know that the little person in the quilt had woken up. He hadn't put on his pants yet, with a pair of slender white legs exposed. He was buttoning his white shirt with his back to the bed.
Light shone in from the window, through the window and through Wen Zhili's white shirt, reflecting his sister's looming waist and undulating curves in Wen Yan's eyes.
Her face turned red again.
…
After putting on his clothes, Wen Zhili turned around and found that his sister was curled up in the quilt, with only a pair of round eyes exposed, staring at him blankly.
She paused.
How long have you been watching... I don't even know how to make a sound...
She suppressed the slight shyness in her heart, handed her sister some clothes, then turned around and said, "Some relatives are coming outside. Let's go out and say hello. I'll take you to the kitchen for breakfast later."
When Wen Yan heard this, his expression changed.
In fact, she was a little afraid of such occasions every year. They were not very familiar with those relatives, and Wen Yan couldn't even call some of them by their names when they only came once every few years.
She buried her face in the pillow unhappily, and then heard a low laugh beside her, and a hand gently rubbing her head.
"Don't be afraid, little ostrich. You'll just have to say hello and hide behind me later."
Although Wen Yan did this every year before, she felt much more relieved after hearing her sister's words.
After a while, she quickly packed herself up and followed her sister out of the room.
…
As soon as the two sisters arrived at the living room on the first floor, they attracted the attention of all the relatives.
An older woman immediately walked towards them with a warm smile on her face.
Wen Yan felt a little panic in her heart, because this was exactly the kind of relative whose name she couldn't even call out.
Immediately afterwards, Wen Yan heard her sister's gentle and decent voice coming from beside her.
"Happy New Year, Fourth Aunt."
Fourth aunt?
So who are the first three aunts?
Isn’t mom an only child?
She was so confused and panicky that she forgot to say hello.
It was a hand that suddenly touched her lower back and rubbed it gently that brought her back from her trance.
"Yanyan, call for help."
Wen Zhili gently reminded them in a voice that only the two of them could hear.
Wen Yan, who was just confused, immediately put on a sweet smile on her face, and shyly called out: "Hello, Fourth Auntie... Happy New Year."
When Fourth Aunt heard the two New Year greetings, the two girls in front of her looked so adorable that she happily held one of them by the hand.
"Hey - Happy New Year, Xiaoli Yanyan! The two little girls are getting more and more beautiful -"
Wen Yan smiled embarrassedly and glanced at her sister out of the corner of her eye. There was a hint of cunning in her eyes.
She greeted Fourth Aunt with a smile, but her little finger quietly hooked her sister's hand on her side, intending to scold her for her silent teasing.
Wen Zhili seemed to have been led astray by her. He still spoke politely and courteously, but his fingers went around his sister's knuckles and rubbed them gently in circles.
The fingertips slide across the skin and wrist bones bit by bit.
They stood so close together that almost no one would notice their restless movements.
But as he was rubbing, Wen Yan suddenly realized that the hand covering him had stiffened.
Puzzled, she turned to look at her sister and found her expression frozen.
Wen Yan followed her gaze and his heart sank.
It’s mom.
Standing far away.
He was silently watching their intertwined hands.
…
After greeting all the relatives present, Wen Zhili finally took her into the kitchen.
Wen Yan slumped in his seat, lamenting dejectedly about surviving the disaster, while Wen Zhili opened the refrigerator door.
"How about eating the dumplings I froze last night?"
Wen Yan said okay, then stood up to help boil water.
"Do you think... did Mom notice anything?"
Wen Yan suddenly asked, "But it's normal for sisters to hold hands, right? Mom shouldn't be suspicious."
Wen Zhili calmly put the dumplings on the plate, with no emotion on his face.
"It's okay, you won't notice."
Although these were words of comfort, Wen Yan felt inexplicably uneasy due to her sister's calm and somewhat cold tone.
But seeing that the other party was so calm, she decided not to think about it anymore.
Taking advantage of this free time, Wen Yan told her sister that she wanted to take the driving test.
Wen Zhili naturally supported it. After thinking for a while, he mentioned his previous promise to buy her a car.
"Actually, you don't have to buy it for me. I just want to learn how to drive because I see you come home too late sometimes and I want to pick you up."
Wen Zhili said he still wanted to buy one, as it would be more convenient to buy a car.
"So what car are you planning to buy?"
"Let's buy one that's more expensive than mine."
Wen Zhili thought, it’s impossible for the car he bought for his sister to be cheaper than the one his parents gave him.
"Is that okay? Or do you have a car you want? Let's talk about it first. If your budget is insufficient, you may have to wait for me for a while."
Wen Yan felt a little dizzy.
Her elder sister had always been extremely generous to her. When she was little, she would always give her a large portion of her own pocket money. As a result, the monthly allowance that little Wenyan received was almost double what she was entitled to.
Wen Zhili now makes his own money and is even more generous.
But if she really drove the luxury car her sister bought, it would be strange if her parents didn't scold her, and she would be embarrassed too.
After a tug of war, the two finally agreed that Wen Zhili would buy himself a more expensive car, and Wen Yan would drive hers.
…
So a few months after the new semester started, a white Panamera appeared at the gate of Jiangnan University.
Seeing Wen Yan heading straight towards the Pammer, the classmate who was leaving the school with her grabbed her arm in horror.
“Why did you come to BMW before and now even Porsche is here?”
"Are you dating a rich man?"
Wen Yan gave her a speechless look in return.
"That's my sister."
…
After getting on the passenger seat, Wen Yan glanced at the interior accessories he had arranged with satisfaction, and then gave the order to drive.
Wen Zhili smiled and started the car obediently.
Not long after the car drove out, Wen Yan was secretly praising the car fragrance she had chosen. When someone beside her asked softly, "Does that girl like girls?"
Wen Yan was stunned for a few seconds before realizing that her sister was asking about the classmate who left the school with her.
"I don't know. We're not close enough to discuss this. I can't just rush up to her and ask her if she likes girls just because she has a mullet, right?"
Wen Zhili said "hmm" lightly and said nothing more.
Wen Yan narrowed her eyes in surprise. After all, her sister never cared about such things.
"Why are you asking this suddenly? Are you afraid that she likes me?"
She laughed teasingly.
"Well... a little."
Wen Zhili said frankly.
She glanced at her sister's face, which was full of satisfaction after having successfully teased her, and laughed softly.
The girl looked at her younger sister with a somewhat fiery look, with the directness and unconcealment that only teenagers have - the same look as her younger sister's.
But Wen Zhili never liked to express his emotions, so he didn't say much in the end.
"Qin Zhen asked me out for dinner tonight. Do you want to join us?"
Wen Yan held his chin and thought about it.
"Next time, my parents are at home today, if we both don't go back, they will have to stay alone in the empty room."
Hearing this, Wen Zhili nodded and sent his sister home first.
…
Dining room.
"Hey, you and Wen Yan... who's on top and who's on bottom?"
When he heard this, Wen Zhili was extremely glad that he did not bring his sister here that night.
She glanced at Qin Zhen's teasing expression, blinked, and coughed lightly.
Drink water strategically.
Don't speak.
Qin Zhen's eyes showed some understanding.
"You're down there."
Wen Zhili coughed lightly again.
"I didn't say that."
"You're right there! Otherwise, you'd have said something. Oh, we don't differentiate between these things. Otherwise, you'd have beaten around the bush and said it wasn't important, instead of giving me riddles like you're doing now!"
Wen Zhili was speechless.
Drink water strategically.
There was a hint of mockery and even disbelief in Qin Zhen's eyes.
"God, Wen Zhili, you are such a loser! Little Wen Yan is so obedient, soft and easy to push over in front of you, and you actually let her overpower you!"
Drink water strategically.
"Hey, hey, Wen Zhili, you've never been on top of that once?"
Seeing Wen Zhili's indifferent expression and the slightly reddened tips of his ears, Qin Zhen asked tentatively, "You... don't miss it at all?"
Actually...but...
Now the tactic of drinking water was useless. Wen Zhili pursed his lips and used his usual trick on Qin Zhen: avoiding the topic.
"Have you been in a relationship recently?"
Qin Zhen was stunned for a moment, then rolled his eyes at Wen Zhili.
Forget it, I'll let you go this time.
She fell back lazily.
"No more talk, it's boring."
Wen Zhili found it strange.
"You haven't been in love in a long time."
Qin Zhen hummed, and said again: "It's boring."
After saying this, she leaned towards Wen Zhili in a sly manner.
"Wen Yan, is there anyone pursuing her at school?"
Wen Zhili's eyes flickered and his gaze fell on the steak being cut at the next table.
Drink water strategically.
Then she said calmly, "There should be."
After hearing the answer, the smile on Qin Zhen's face clearly said "Hahaha, Wen Zhili, you have come to this day too."
Wen Zhili turned his attention again to the steak on the next table.
She thought of the girl with the mullet.
In fact, if that girl hadn't appeared downstairs of his house with a big bouquet of roses a few days later, Wen Zhili wouldn't have cared so much.
