Chapter 30: An Umbrella from My Childhood

Chapter Thirty: An Umbrella from My Childhood

As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, An Yu called me on video.

The conditions in the desert were extremely harsh, with high temperatures, scorching heat, and drought. Combined with the requirements of the role, her makeup and styling were rather haphazard, with messy hair, sallow skin, and bruises on her face.

They seem to have had a tough life.

An Yu had probably just finished filming a scene and was taking a break during filming. She was half-asleep, slumped in a chair in the tent.

He said listlessly, "I only have eight more days left in this filming schedule."

"Then I'll prepare a welcome dinner for you in advance."

An Yu didn't stand on ceremony with Wen Jin at all; she was about to go crazy with pent-up energy. "Baby, when I get back, I'm going to let loose! We'll party at the bar until dawn, and I'd love to order eight more male models!"

"I'm practically turning into a wild man living in this godforsaken place."

The camera panned across An Yu's assistant's panicked face.

After all, An Yu is outspoken and her mouth has caused her no shortage of public trouble.

Wen Jin smiled and kindly reminded An Yu, "Even we city folks can't handle eight male models in one night."

After a moment's thought, An Yu said, "Then let's make six."

Wen Jinye: ...

"By the way, how is your team leader's condition? Have you contacted Zhou Jichen?"

Wen Jin's emotions were somewhat mixed. "We've made contact, and he's already Tang Man's attending physician."

Her gloomy expression didn't escape An Yu's sharp eyes. "Isn't this a good thing? Why are you looking so gloomy?"

As if she had thought of a possibility, An Yu rolled up her sleeves, looking ready to fight to the death for Wen Jin, "Could it be that he made things difficult for you?"

"No." To prevent An Yu from overthinking things, Wen Jin didn't hide anything from her. "But... it seems that Fu Yanjing helped me."

An Yu knew Wen Jinye too well. Even the smallest act of help from others would be remembered by her for a long time.

She finally made up her mind to let go of Fu Yanjing and is slowly moving on.

Fu Yanjing, that despicable man, suddenly ran off to Jiangbei again, and even pretended to be a nice guy, giving Wen Jinye some favors.

Could it be just to keep Wen Jinye hanging?

An Yu was on high alert. "Baby, tell me honestly, what do you plan to do to repay Fu Yanjing?"

Wen Jin remained silent for a long time, thinking about their last meeting, which had not ended pleasantly.

Does slapping him in return count?

"puff--"

The screen was blurred by a misty haze.

An Yu choked on a mouthful of water, coughing violently while praising, "Well done!"

She had a sense of pride, like a mother seeing her daughter grow up. "You should have scolded him a long time ago. He's a narcissistic, arrogant, and self-important guy. Giving him a slap would be too lenient. I'm afraid you'd have given him a good beating."

"But I still have to remind you," An Yu hurriedly pulled out a tissue to wipe the camera clean, "You absolutely mustn't let yourself get caught up in Fu Yanjing's little favors again."

Wen Jin was momentarily speechless and had no way to refute it.

A clap of thunder was followed by a torrential downpour without warning.

That's how it is in Jiangbei: hot and humid in summer, with the weather changing in an instant.

Wen Jin also hung up the phone with An Yu. Fortunately, she had developed the habit of carrying an umbrella in her bag.

The umbrellas were opened in the downpour, and the whole city was shrouded in a misty rain.

Under the bus stop pavilion stood boys and girls dressed in Jiangbei High School uniforms.

The boy had bruises on his face, and the girl stood on tiptoe, holding an alcohol swab to treat his wounds.

“You shouldn’t be meddling in my affairs. My family owes them money, so it’s only right that he’s making things difficult for me.”

"I've dragged you down, and now I have to come home with you to reflect on my actions."

The boy clenched his fist. "He stuck insulting notes on the back of your school uniform. I can't stand it. If he does it again, I'll beat him up."

The girl lowered her head, her voice already choked with emotion, "Thank you."

The boy was clearly panicked and at a loss.

He raised his hand to wipe away her tears, but then realized his hands were a little dirty, so he rubbed them haphazardly on his school uniform. "Hey, hey, hey... I'm the one who's hurt, why are you crying?"

An indescribable feeling spread amidst the sound of rain.

The boy's appearance will illuminate countless moments of confusion and despair for the girl.

Wen Jin didn't bother them and turned around to hail a taxi.

Everyone has their own memories of high school.

Wen Jinye spent her high school years in fear.

Back home, the constant arguments and insults between her uncle and aunt, and the ever-present footsteps of Tan Donglin at her bedroom door, were all shadows that Wen Jin could never shake off.

The rain was just as heavy that day.

Mingshui Lane was as dark as the end of the world.

Tan Donglin and several petty thugs he associated with cornered Wen Jin here as well.

Wen Jin was soaked to the bone by the heavy rain, her long black hair clinging to her face in strands, and the large raindrops made it almost impossible for her to see the road ahead.

But their sleazy voices were clearly audible amidst the sound of rain.

Tan Donglin's voice was full of pride, "I told you my cousin is very beautiful, her face is much more appealing than those in the film."

"Have you tried it in bed? I wonder if your moans are as nice as other people's."

The white summer school uniform was soaked by the rain, faintly outlining the girl's slender yet beautiful figure.

"She's wearing pink underneath, hahaha. I wonder what it will feel like to take it off, and whether her flesh has grown to the right places."

"It's alright, I feel like I can hold it in one hand."

A thunderclap boomed in the distance, and a bolt of lightning ripped across the sky. Wen Jinye's face turned deathly pale.

Her eyes were fixed on the road ahead in the rain.

Someone laughed and punched Tan Donglin twice, "You little rascal, you've been cheating on us with someone, haven't you? Call her over and let us guys give her a try."

"Hey, hey, hey." Tan Donglin said with a fawning expression, but when he turned to Wen Jinye, his tone suddenly hardened, and he threatened, "Cousin, are you going to walk over here by yourself, or should I lead you over?"

Wen Jin also took two steps back.

But she knew that even if she turned around and ran again, she couldn't outrun Tan Donglin.

Whether caught or sent home, Wen Jinye will face even more unknown and terrifying punishments.

She had spoken to her uncle and aunt about it, but their doting and indulgence of Tan Donglin turned Wen Jinye's words into slander.

When the police were called, they were brushed off with the excuse that they "don't interfere in family matters."

That time, she was locked in the basement by her uncle and aunt for three days.

If An Yu hadn't been unable to contact her, she would have led a group of people into her home to look for her.

She smashed three dining chairs before she could break open the basement door and rescue the dying Wen Jin.

If it weren't for her father's financial power, An Yu would have been sent to a juvenile detention center by her uncle and aunt.

Despair gradually enveloped Wen Jinye.

"Hurry up, don't act like we're going to kill you. My buddies are just looking at the color of your underwear, don't pretend to be a virtuous woman."

Tan Donglin's patience ran out, and he smashed his half-finished drink at Wen Jinye's feet with a "clatter." "Damn it, can't you understand human language?"

The spilled orange beverage splashed out.

"Tsk."

A soft click of the tongue sounded behind me, a suppressed, barely suppressed displeasure.

"Where are you going to throw it? Are you blind?"
