Chapter 9 is a place to stay.

As steam billowed out, the bathroom door was gently pushed open, and a young girl who had just finished showering and drying herself walked out.

Xia Lian looked around but couldn't find Wen Mo. The living room was empty, so she turned and walked towards Wen Mo's room.

With a creak, she gently opened the door and peeked out. The familiar figure was crouching in the corner, doing something.

"We've found Wenmer."

"ah?"

Wen Mo seemed startled and hurriedly turned his head. The girl was wearing a white T-shirt, just a slightly different style, and her lower body was in black tight pants. Her hair was obviously not dry and was still dripping with water.

"Don't you wear pajamas?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian shook her head blankly, "I don't have...pajamas."

Hearing her answer, Wenmo thought of buying her one more thing.

The shy atmosphere in the bathroom had vanished, leaving only those seemingly empty eyes and Xia Lian's characteristically quiet footsteps.

"Wenmo...what are you doing?"

"Oh, you mean this?" Wen Mo got up to make room for her, but he was carrying a large bundle of something in his hand, which he tossed directly onto the bed. "This thing is really heavy..."

Catching his breath, he patted the extra lump on the bed. "You probably didn't bring any bedding, did you?"

He had noticed earlier that Xia Lian only carried a suitcase when she entered the room. The suitcase was mostly empty, with only a few clothes and no bedding.

Xia Lian gently shook her head. "No."

"This set is old. I changed to a new set of bedding not long after I moved here. You can take this old set and use it for now."

Wenmo originally wanted to give her the new set of bedding, but after thinking about it carefully, he realized that the new bedding had been used for almost two years and was probably no different from the old bedding, so it didn't matter which set she slept in.

"Come with me."

After saying that, he went to the next room. Xia Lian was stunned for a moment, then followed closely behind Wen Mo.

This apartment has two bedrooms and one living room. Although it only has two bedrooms and one living room, the size of each bedroom and the living room is quite satisfactory.

Since he lives alone, Wenmo has turned the next room into a storage room, where he just throws in anything he doesn't use often.

Over the course of two years, the items inside only took up half the space. The largest item was actually a bed left behind by the previous tenant. When Wenmo moved in, he was too lazy to throw it away, so he simply left it there.

"I never thought this bed would come in handy." He glanced around the room and muttered to himself.

Wenmo usually has a habit of deep cleaning, so the room's environment, while not exactly clean, is at least fairly average.

However, due to prolonged disuse, these items have all accumulated some dust.

With a slight frown, Wen Mo reached out and wiped a cabinet with his finger, a thin layer of dust immediately sticking to his hand. "How can anyone live in this?"

She inexplicably began to complain about Wen Yiquan. He couldn't have given her a day or two's notice beforehand. He only called her belatedly after she had already arrived at her house, leaving her no chance to even tidy up her room.

Even Wen Mo himself probably couldn't stand staying in this room for one night, let alone Xia Lian. He just couldn't associate a girl with this kind of room, even if it was just for one night.

Upon hearing this, Xia Lian looked at his face, tilted her head slightly, and softly asked, "Why... can't I stay?"

While Wenmo was pondering what to do next, he casually gave a reply.

"Because it's very dirty."

As soon as she finished speaking, the girl lowered her head. Although she still had the same expression, you could inexplicably sense her disappointment. Even her usually calm eyes dimmed slightly.

"I've taken a shower... I'm not dirty..." Xia Lian said softly, lowering her eyes.

"ah?"

Realizing what was happening, Wen Mo's eyes widened, and he quickly waved his hands, "I didn't mean you're dirty! I meant this room hasn't been lived in for a long time, it's covered in dust and is very, very dirty!"

After saying that, he rubbed off a layer of dust with his finger and showed it to Xia Lian.

Xia Lian blinked, seemingly unconcerned about the dust. She simply stretched out her finger and gently touched Wen Mo's finger, getting some dust on her own finger as well.

"It's not dirty, I can stay here."

As if to make Wen Mo not feel that she was being pretentious, the girl in front of her spoke more fluently, and even with a hint of urgency.

Seeing her like this, Wen Mo simply shook his head slowly, "No, this place is still not suitable for living."

"Why?"

“Because…” He shifted his gaze elsewhere, focusing on the air conditioner on the wall that hadn’t been turned on for a long time, “the air conditioner is broken.”

I don't know when it started, but the air conditioner in this room has stopped working.

A few months ago, Wenmer originally wanted to call an air conditioner repairman to fix it, but after thinking about it carefully, he realized that no one lived there anyway, so why waste money?

Then I just left it there and never paid it any more attention.

And so the only electrical appliance in the room died.

"You can stay here...!"

For some reason, Xia Lian seemed inexplicably eager, as if she absolutely had to let me stay in this room, and even her tone was a little louder.

"No, the air conditioner in this room is broken, what's the point of staying here?" Wen Mo said helplessly.

"I can... not use air conditioning."

"Really?" Wen Mo raised an eyebrow.

"real."

"Then what's with the sweat on your body?" His gaze fell on Xia Lian's back. Because there was no air conditioning in the room, both of them had a thin layer of sweat on their backs, which soaked their clothes.

"That's because... I get nervous talking to Wenmer."

"Really? Then why weren't you sweating when you were in my room? Did you suddenly stop being nervous?"

"That, that's because..."

Wen Mo leaned closer, but the girl's voice was too soft for him to hear clearly. "Why?"

Unexpectedly, Xia Lian did not reply this time. Instead, she kept her head down, seemingly lost in thought.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Feeling a little puzzled, Wen Mo quietly stepped forward and also lowered his head to check on Xia Lian's condition.

Unexpectedly, the girl, who had been expressionless, suddenly seemed like a different person. At this moment, she was biting her lower lip tightly, and her eyes were silently covered with a layer of mist, as if she was trying her best to restrain herself from letting the tears fall.

Seeing her eyes suddenly filled with tears, Wen Mo's eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat.

Holy crap! This is a huge mistake!
