Chapter 1137: The End of the Earth

As mentioned earlier, the second-class bus driver who could not speak English but was very responsible took Nalan Shiqi to Teotihuacan, the Sun Pyramid Scenic Area. Here, the so-called green land was almost entirely planted with cacti.

The Sun and Moon Pyramids are in a scenic area, and it takes about 2-3 hours to visit. Please note that Mexico has a dry climate, and there is no shelter when climbing the pyramids under the scorching sun. Although there are many small vendors in the scenic area, they only sell souvenirs, and only drinks are sold at the entrance. So you must buy two bottles of water before entering the tour, otherwise you will be like Yunluo, who climbed halfway up the pyramid before going back to buy water.

By the way, the water here is very expensive. A 600ml bottle of purified water costs 15 pesos, which is equivalent to RMB 7-10 (the RMB exchange rate has fluctuated greatly recently), and a 600ml bottle of sports drink costs 25 pesos. However, the things in this kind of stall are not expensive. A T-shirt costs only 30 pesos, which is equivalent to RMB 15-20, which is cheaper than in China!

The ticket price for the Sun and Moon Pyramids is n$48. RMB 20 to 30. Yunluo has always believed that the tickets for domestic attractions are too expensive, and this was proven again in Mexico. Because the status of the Sun and Moon Pyramids in Mexico's tourist attractions is no less than that of the Great Wall of China. And the ticket price of 20 to 30 yuan is really affordable.

However, if you bring a camera, you will be charged an additional n$35, but a camera is not charged (this ridiculous rule also exists in India). So will Yunluo be charged for bringing the Invincible Rabbit? Ha. This car with one Volkswagen and two Mercedes-Benz logos looks awesome.

The cactus is more than a person's height. Therefore, Mexico's parks and houses do not need to be fenced off by walls, but only need to be planted with a circle of cacti. The sun shines through the tender yellow leaves to the ground, as if representing the hope that this country has nurtured.

There are many three- or four-story platforms around the pyramid. There are stone stairs around them. I looked through some historical materials but couldn't find out what they were used for. Yunluo guessed that when the boss held major commemorative activities on the pyramid, the small leaders should stand on these platforms to command the public, haha. Even in ancient civilizations, the hierarchy is very strict.

A family of three came to visit. I don't know which country they are from. A group of local students came to visit the ruins. I don't know if it can be considered as patriotism education in Mexico. This child is very tall. The platform at the back is even higher. The stairs to this high platform are quite steep.

There was nothing special when we went up. But when we came down, everyone had to move sideways step by step like crabs. I went up to this platform. I didn't see anything special except the human-faced god statue. There was also another ruined pyramid behind it... The scene in front of me reminded Nalan Shiqi of the Jiankou Great Wall.

Teotihuacan civilization began around 200 BC. It was an ancient Indian civilization that was born after the demise of the Olmec civilization and was about the same period as the Mayan civilization. The origin of the Teotihuacan people is still an unsolved mystery, and no one can prove that the civilization had written language and left behind any records. Today, Yunluo and Nalan Shiqi know about the existence of this civilization because they left behind huge ruins for analysis and proof. Some other surrounding civilizations of the same period mentioned things about the Teotihuacan people in books or paintings, which is another key reference.

This map should be the map of the ancient city of Teotihuacán. It is necessary to introduce this history here. The civilization of Mexico is very different from the single nation of China (Huaxia nation) throughout history: there have been countless civilizations on the land of Mexico. The history of Mexico is the history of the revolution of one civilization against another. Due to the replacement and discontinuity of civilizations, the details of those disappeared civilizations have not been fully recorded, so the history of Mexico as a whole seems lost and mysterious.

All tourists need to walk from this avenue to the pyramids. This avenue is called the Avenue of the Dead. It is the avenue of the ancient city of Teotihuacán and the center line of the city. It is called this name because when the Spaniards came here, they saw groups of pyramids. Since the Spaniards had seen the pyramids of ancient Egypt, they believed that all the pyramids were tombs, so they named this avenue in the pyramid group. In fact, the Indian pyramids are not tombs. They are used for sacrifices or divination and measurement.

Of course, this is just one theory. Another theory is that the Aztecs here called this place the "Road of the Dead."

Riosanjuan - sanjuan (三鹃?) looks like pinyin, Yunluo thought it was interesting so he took a picture. However, it was a bit difficult to find out what it meant. This is Spanish. But when you enter this word in Spanish on Wikipedia, there are dozens of disambiguations. Even in Mexico, there are three meanings. It's amazing. One of the meanings that can be understood is a river called Sanjuan. In the Mexican Basin.

Haha, this is one of the few water flows I photographed in dry Mexico. Maybe this is the famous San Juan River?!

The Teotihuacan people appeared in central Mexico in 200 BC and built a city with a population of about 50,000 between 1 AD and 150 AD, which can be regarded as the earliest city-level settlement in the entire Americas.

During this period, they established a primary-scale city centered on the north-south "Road of the Dead" (the central axis of the Teotihuacan ruins). The buildings were mainly pyramids and temples. Later, as the city gradually grew, various buildings for civilian use were also completed.

The development of the entire city and civilization reached its peak in 450 AD. According to the estimated scale of the ruins, the population of Teotihuacan at that time may have been between 125,000 and 200,000 people. It had cultural achievements such as huge buildings and exquisite murals.

But it fell into decline for unknown reasons between 650 and 750. Finally approaching the Pyramid of the Sun, it felt desolate.

The Pyramid of the Sun (Spanish: pirámidelsol) is the largest building in the ruins of Teotihuacán in Mexico and one of the largest buildings in Central America. It is located on the east side of the middle section of the "Road of the Dead", facing the Pyramid of the Moon (Spanish: pirámidelaluna), and is also part of the huge complex at the core of the Teotihuacán ruins.

The name of the Pyramid of the Sun was given by the Aztecs when archaeologists visited the ruins after the disappearance of the Teotihuacan civilization, because it was impossible to know the name given to the pyramid by the Teotihuacans. It was built in two stages. The first stage took about 100 years to expand the pyramid to its current size; after the second stage was completed, the base of the Pyramid of the Sun was about 225 meters and the height was 64 meters. An altar was also built on the top of the tower in the second stage, but it is no longer visible.

The stairs leading to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun are very steep. In some places, they are at an angle of 60 degrees, which is why people in the previous video were seen stepping down sideways.

The Pyramid of the Sun is a magnificent building. It is trapezoidal in shape, facing east and west, with hundreds of steps leading to the top. The base of the tower is 225 meters long, 222 meters wide, and 66 meters high. It has five floors and a volume of 1 million cubic meters. It is roughly the same size as the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt, and is basically a square, and faces the four directions of east, south, west, and north. The four sides of the tower are all equilateral triangles in the shape of the Chinese character "金". The ratio of the base to the tower height is exactly equal to the ratio of the circumference to the radius.

A temple-like building was built on the top of the pyramid in the early 3rd century, which was built at the same time as the Quetzalcoatl Temple. According to research by Spanish historians in the 18th century, the temple was magnificent and the tall statue of the sun god stood in the center of the altar, facing the east, dignified and solemn. On his chest were countless gold, silver and gemstone ornaments. When the sun shone into the temple, his body was shining with dazzling light, which made people awe-inspiring. Pedro Dossa found bones in the four corners of the temple foundation in 1925. He believed that this was the place where people were killed to worship the sun god in the temple.

The interior of the pyramid is built with soil and sandstone, and the exterior of each step from bottom to top is inlaid with huge stone slabs with colorful patterns carved on them. Interestingly, the surface of the pyramid is not completely flat. Instead, many protruding stones are deliberately inlaid evenly, and these stones still stand on the surface of the pyramid after years of wind and rain.

Climb to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun and overlook the Central American land.

The orientation of the pyramid may have some anthropological significance. The Pyramid of the Sun is slightly northwest of the sunset horizon on April 29 and August 12, the two days for the Teotihuacan divination year. August 12 is important because it marks the beginning of the Mayan Long Accumulation Calendar. In addition, many important astronomical and astrological events can be observed at the pyramid site. This information was important to the ancient society's agricultural and religious systems.

The pyramid is also closely related to astronomy: the light of Sirius can directly reach the head of the deceased sleeping in the upper hall through the air flow channel on the south wall; and the light of the North Star can directly reach the lower hall through the air flow channel on the north wall. There are 91 steps on one side of the tower, leading directly to the top of the tower. There are 364 steps on the four sides, plus the top platform, 365 steps, which is exactly the number of days in a year. The steps of the nine-story tower base are divided into 18 parts. This is exactly the number of months in a year in the Mayan calendar.

From the Pyramid of the Sun, you can see the Pyramid of the Moon surrounded by Cerro Gordo. Since the Pyramid of the Sun is much higher, the Pyramid of the Moon looks small and cute.

There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!

From the Pyramid of the Sun, continue walking along the Avenue of the Dead, and at the end is the Temple of the Moon. There are many translations of the Avenue of the Dead in Chinese. "The Road of the Dead" is a translation in the American Western style. "Yellow Spring Avenue" is a very Chinese translation. In fact, it is not a bad translation to translate it as "a dead end road".

The Road of the Dead is 4 kilometers long and 45 meters wide, running through the entire city from north to south. A man named Hugh Harrison claimed that he found a measurement unit suitable for all its buildings and streets in Teotihuacan. After using a computer to calculate, the length of the unit is 1.059 meters. For example, the heights of the Quetzalcoatl Temple, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan are 21, 42, and 63 "units" respectively, with a ratio of 1:2:3. Harrison used "units" to measure the gods and pyramid sites on both sides of the Road of the Dead and found an even more amazing situation. The distance between these ruins on the Road of the Dead just represents the orbital data of the planets in the solar system.

In the ruins of the City Temple, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is 96 "units", Mercury is 36, Venus is 72, and Mars is 144. Behind the "Castle" there is a canal dug by the Teotihuacans, and the central axis of the "Canal Castle" is 288 "units", which is exactly the distance of the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

There are ruins of an unnamed temple at 520 "units" along the axis, which is equivalent to the distance from the sun to Jupiter. After another 945 "units", there is another temple ruins, which is the distance from Saturn to the sun. After another 1845 "units", you will reach the end of the Road of the Dead and the center of the Moon Pyramid, which is exactly the orbital data of Uranus.

If you extend the straight line of the Road of the Dead further, you will reach the top of Mount Cerro Vagordo, where there is a small temple and a tower, the foundations of which are still there.

The distances are 2880 and 3780 "units" respectively, which is exactly the distance of the orbits of Neptune and Pluto. In the chaotic prehistoric era, which invisible hand pointed out all this for the people who built Teotihuacan?

During the construction of the pyramid, lime and plaster were imported from surrounding areas to Teotihuacan as raw materials for the colorful murals created by the Teotihuacan people. However, due to the long time, these mural decorations and plaster are completely invisible. Now only a few images on the side of the pyramid are believed to be part of the pyramid mural decoration, including jaguar heads, claws, stars and snakes.

The mural in the picture above was discovered during an archaeological activity in 1963. It is part of the "pumaplex", a building consisting of platforms and temples. It was once widely found on the surfaces of buildings on both sides of the Road of the Dead. It is an animal image similar to a jaguar. (To be continued...)
