There were two Japanese girls who were very brave and sat directly on the edge of the cliff. Yunluo was shocked at the time. Most tourists were lying on the ground and sticking their heads out to look. Yunluo also made sure that he would not get within half a meter of the edge of the cliff. It was really scary to watch. Finally, when I left Horseshoe Bay and walked towards the parking lot, I felt my heartbeat slowly calm down.
However, Horseshoe Bay is really a must-see place. The town of Page is a center, and there are many beautiful scenery within a radius of 200 kilometers, such as Bryce National Park, Arches National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Monument Valley National Park, Wave Valley National Park, Horseshoe Bay and Antelope Valley Indian Reservation.
Lake Powell, and among these, Horseshoe Bay is the closest one, only about 6 kilometers away from Page.
After visiting Horseshoe Bend, we walked back and forth in the desert for more than two kilometers. We were hungry and tired, so we quickly went to Walmart to do some shopping. Then we returned to Page Town and went to the hotel we booked to have lunch and rest. We didn’t go out to Lake Powell until a little later in the afternoon.
Arizona's desert climate is quite good. A few days ago, the temperature in Yellowstone Park was still 0 degrees at night. After two or three days, the temperature at noon has been close to 35 degrees. Lake Powell is a large lake formed by the Colorado River after the Powell Dam was built. It is similar to Lake Aswan. You can see it on the map. To go to Arches National Park, you have to take the water and land transportation of Lake Powell and take a boat there.
The ticket to Lake Powell National Park seems to be 25. You need to be prepared for the car to get stuck when you drive to the beach. When Yunluo and Yan Chenyu went down, they found that a car was pulled up by a trailer. There were many private yachts and sailboats parked in the lake, and many RVs were set up on the beach. The way Americans enjoy life is more about traveling in RVs with the whole family to get close to nature!
Seeing many tourists swimming in the lake, Yunluo, although not wearing swimming trunks, quickly stripped himself and jumped into the lake, feeling refreshed.
I wanted to watch the sunset at Horseshoe Bend, but I was afraid that I would not be able to catch it if I drove there and then walked 1 km on the desert road, so I decided to watch the sunset at Lake Powell. In the distance, there were the most typical sedimentary rock mountains in the western United States. The sunset gradually sank.
The shadow of the earth stretches eastwards, the lake is the first to lose light, followed by the plains in the distance. The most beautiful moment is when the last ray of slanting sunlight pours on the side fault of the body, from golden to light red, extremely beautiful.
When watching the sunset, I asked Mushroom and her family to drive back to rest. This place is only about 8 kilometers away from Page Town. Yunluo will find a way to take a ride later. It is the first time I take a ride in the United States. I am quite nervous. Luckily, there are three aunts from Xiangjiang City here when I take pictures of the sunset. They chatted with Yunluo a lot.
Afterwards, Yunluo also carefully asked if she could take their jeep back. The aunties specially packed up the back seat which was full of things and took Yunluo back. They were very grateful. They didn't speak much Chinese, so Yunluo and Yan Chenyu chatted in English. The three aunties were also photography enthusiasts, and they would join a photography tour in Antelope Canyon tomorrow.
Yunluo thinks that there are two types of scenery during travel. One is that photos cannot express the beauty of the real scene, and the other is that photos look better. Most of them are the former. To be fair, Antelope Canyon belongs to the latter.
The most famous light of Antelope Canyon was hung on the wall of the hotel room where I stayed. Yunluo has a limited vocabulary, so I think it is more appropriate to use the word "dream". I also look forward to being there in person. I am lucky enough to take that photo, but the real scene is not so colorful.
The Antelope Canyon is the most densely populated area I visited during my 41-day trip to the United States. It feels a bit like a scenic spot in China during the National Day holiday. The Antelope Canyon belongs to the Navajo Native American Reserve. The geological structure is red sandstone, and the rocks in the valley have been washed into distinct wavy lines by mountain torrents, which is like a dream.
Because it is a protected area and tourists have carved words on the rocks before, the Antelope Canyon was once closed. Although it is open now, you must join a local tour group. The regular tour is cheaper, $48 per person, and the photography tour is almost twice as expensive.
The advantage of a photography group is that the tour guide will help clear the area and create an empty area for taking photos. The photo above was taken under such circumstances.
In fact, the Antelope Canyon is not long. It is just because of the special terrain and water-eroded rock stripes, plus the sunlight shining on the rock walls at different depths from different angles, that the light and shadow effects are unique.
The light in Antelope Canyon only appears at noon every day, and it is best to go there when the sun is higher in the summer. So remember to book the Antelope Canyon tour in advance! And be sure to sign up for the tour that departs at 11:30 noon.
The tour guide of Yunluo and Yan Chenyu's group was very nice. He helped a lot and took photos. The Antelope Canyon is very crowded, so it is difficult to take portraits. It is almost like competing for time and space resources. Mushroom mm also gave the tour guide more tips than others. The tour guide of the photography group was more domineering.
He would ask other tour guides to take their groups away from a certain area, and then let those photography enthusiasts with tripods take as many photos as they like! One thing I discovered when traveling in the United States is that many people actually bring ordinary cameras, or even compact cameras, but they are keen on bringing tripods, even if they are compact cameras, and even when there is plenty of light during the day. They really strive for perfection!
After leaving the Antelope Canyon, we returned to the town of Page, picked up our car, had a quick meal at McDonald's, and then continued on to the next stop, which was also the highlight - the Grand Canyon. Highway 89 was closed below Horseshoe Bend, so we had to take Route 89t instead. It didn't take much more time, so just be careful.
On the way to the Grand Canyon, we saw cumulonimbus clouds from afar, covering the entrance to the highway on the east side of the Grand Canyon. But after turning into the Grand Canyon scenic area, the sky was harmonious and clear. I have to say that the first time I saw the scenery of the Colorado Grand Canyon, I was still shocked. The vertical height here is nearly 1,000 meters.
Fortunately, it is not as vertical and steep as the Horseshoe Bay Cliff, so you can sit on the edge of the cliff to take pictures. In addition to the various viewing platforms, guests at each viewing platform can explore the rocks on the edge of the cliff with more amazing perspectives to see more shocking pictures. <, here there is not only a nearly 270-degree surround view. There are also some isolated rock pillars on the edge of the cliff to challenge your adventurous spirit. Yunluo saw a large rock standing on the cliff closest to the edge of the canyon at first glance. It should be very cool to watch the sunset from that protruding rock.
So the next step was to find a way to get over. The rock was very close to a stone on the trail below the viewing platform, as if it was formed by a crack of the same stone, with a gap of more than 4 meters. It was too difficult to jump over. I looked for another way, first groped down to the bottom of the gap between the two stones, and then began to climb this not-so-high but completely vertical rock wall.
The wall climbing skills he had learned when he was a child had never been abandoned. There was a squirrel growing horizontally in the crevice that he could use as a foothold. He pushed with his feet and arms and climbed up. Several tourists who came from behind stood on the rocks 4 meters away and asked Yunluo if he had jumped over. Yunluo would jokingly say yes.
Yunluo climbed this unique rock again during his second visit to the Grand Canyon, and he was familiar with the route. After Yunluo climbed up, some young Westerners also found the same way to climb up. Among them, three Swedish guys lined up on the edge of the cliff, drank beer and waited for the sunset. They didn't bring a camera, but just took two photos with their mobile phones.
Most of the time, we chatted while watching the dreamy sunset over the Grand Canyon.
After watching the sunset, we checked into Holiday Inn Express, a small town at the south gate of the scenic area, for more than 200 US dollars. This was the most expensive stay in this trip to the Western National Park, because this town is actually a hotel and restaurant business.
It was built for the Grand Canyon. It is also the peak tourist season recently, and the room prices are very expensive. There was a heavy rain before arriving at the hotel, and I couldn't help but worry about tomorrow's sunrise.
Look, in the distance of the canyon, the clouds are burning. The sun god uses his blazing flames to dispel the cold and haze between heaven and earth. The morning glow is so brilliant, and the sunrise will be even more beautiful. During this trip to the United States, I only got up early (before 6 o'clock) for two days. One was because of the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival, and the other was today's Grand Canyon sunrise.
Getting up, the little fool Mushroom mm would probably struggle. The alarm clock woke everyone up. Yunluo looked out the window. Although there was a lot of luck, it shouldn't affect the sunrise, so he decided to go. He didn't plan to go, but since he was awake, he might as well go and take a look. It wasn't as cold outside as he imagined.
Yunluo and Yan Chenyu set off in a hurry without even washing their faces. They asked the hotel front desk last night and were told that the sunrise time was 6:20. Yunluo and Yan Chenyu set off at 6 o'clock and arrived at the place that can be reached by self-driving vehicles 15 minutes later. This is the best sunset viewing spot closest to the South Gate.
There are still 6 minutes to sunrise. At this time, the horizon under the dark clouds in the distance seems to be burning. The most beautiful sunrise should be with clouds and morning light. There are already quite a lot of people who got up early to watch the sunrise. The shutter sounds are one after another, and those cameras that are in automatic mode flash their flash from time to time.
Everyone held their breath and waited for the golden star to appear in the horizon, just as it had done every morning for the past billions of years.
There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!
The sun rose, and the brilliant light was so exciting. The crowd cheered, and the Grand Canyon was covered with a layer of golden brilliance. The morning glow in the sky rose and fell. Gradually, the sun rose behind the dark clouds and disappeared temporarily, but in fact, the most beautiful part of the sunrise was the 10 minutes before and after it rose above the horizon. I kept saying that it was so beautiful, and it was worth getting up early.
On the way back from watching the sunrise, I saw groups of deer in the jungle. It was a pleasant surprise. Later, I heard from the staff that the probability of seeing deer here is the highest in the early morning. When I came to the Grand Canyon again, I saw deer around 10 am. I went back to the hotel and took a nap.
I got up at 10 o'clock, had breakfast and set off. It was already cloudy outside and the weather was not optimistic. I hurried off again and began to look for other rock pillars close to the cliff to experience the pleasure and fear of being high above.
To take this photo, you need to walk down the hillside for a while. Mushroom mm stood on top and took the photo from above. When Yunluo sat next to the cliff, Mushroom said that a Western tourist standing next to her took a deep breath, then made the sign of the cross on his chest and said "God bless him". Yunluo gradually overcame her fear of heights. The trick is to try not to look down.
The mushrooms were also affected by the falling clouds and gradually dared to approach the edges of some less dangerous cliffs.
The rain gradually began to get heavier. The Grand Canyon was already shrouded in clouds and mist, with wind and rain. The scene lost some color and gained some magical atmosphere. The rain was getting heavier. Yunluo and Yan Chenyu waited in the car for half an hour. Seeing that the rain showed no sign of stopping, they had to give up and leave the Grand Canyon early, rushing towards Nevada along Highway 66 in the rain.
In the evening, we checked into the small town of Kingman, which is also a famous stop on Route 66. In the evening, the rain stopped and the sky cleared up, and a rainbow appeared appropriately.
In the evening, I went to Wal-Mart with Mushroom to buy fruits and instant rice. When I was queuing to pay, a couple in front of me had a large cart of shopping. They saw that Yunluo and Yan Chenyu only had three or four items, so they took the initiative to let Yunluo and Yan Chenyu pay first. They were really kind. I felt warm in my heart.
Starting from Kingman in the morning, it took about two hours to reach Las Vegas in the Nevada desert. On the way, they also passed the Hoover Dam, but Yunluo fell asleep at the time and had no idea about it. More than 20 days later, they took the road from Kingman to Las again, and then went to the Hoover Dam to see if Big Brother Megatron was really imprisoned there.
In the opening words, I said that Yunluo has the least feelings for Las Vegas, because it is poor! On the way to Las Vegas, I kept hearing Mushroom MM talking about how glamorous Las Vegas is. After visiting that city, you will deeply sigh, "It's great to be rich." The hotels in Las Vegas may be the most cost-effective hotels in the world.
Accommodation is basically a loss-making business. The low-cost but high-quality accommodation is also to attract tourists. The MGM Signature Hotel where Yunluo and Yan Chenyu stayed should be the most luxurious hotel they have ever stayed in. That suite, Yunluo, gosh! Almost everything you can imagine can be found there, not to mention the refrigerator, induction cooker, bread machine, and coffee machine.
There was even a juicer. The tableware, knives, wine glasses, and kitchen utensils in the drawer were neatly arranged. The bathroom was even bigger than the motel room I usually stayed in. It was super five-star quality. One night, including tax, only cost $120. A hotel of the same quality in China would probably cost at least $3,000. (To be continued...)
