Chapter 48 Why do I always stumble upon confessions of love?

Although Su Xun didn't want to meddle in other people's business, she always seemed to run into trouble.

Hearing the sounds from next door, Su Xun felt utterly helpless.

It was the weekend, and her mother asked her to come out and buy some things. After she finished shopping, she stopped by this bubble tea shop she frequented. She sat down in her usual seat and heard a noise coming from next door.

She recognized Gan Tang's voice almost immediately. The other voice was also quite familiar, and the content of their conversation was also quite familiar.

"Brother Ji Xin, I..."

"Gantang, don't be foolish anymore, it's really impossible for us."

"You're still blaming me, aren't you? I did all that to provoke you..." The girl's voice trembled with tears, her tone urgent.

"I don't mean to blame you, but I really do have someone I like. Let it go." The person sighed.

"I don't believe it. You must be getting revenge on me. I've already made things clear with those boys, and I won't do anything reckless again. Look at me, okay?"

"Gantang, you should calm down."

Then came the familiar screech of a chair being pulled out, and a boy in a black hoodie came out and quickly left.

This time, Su Xun was sitting facing the aisle, so he saw the person's appearance. The person did look older than Gan Tang, around seventeen or eighteen years old.

Su Xun could see the boy leaving, and naturally, Gan Tang, who had caught up with him, could also see him.

Gan Tang, her face still bearing traces of undried tears, came out from behind, took a few steps, then stopped, knowing she couldn't catch up.

Turning my head, I saw my classmate staring at me in astonishment.

"You...you heard everything?"

Su Xun just wanted to scoff inwardly. Why did she always have to stumble upon these kinds of things? The goddess usually seemed quite proper, but now that he had witnessed her being rejected after confessing her feelings and then being rejected again, wouldn't she blame him?

Thinking it over, he decided to lower his head and pretend not to know her, hoping that Gan Tang wouldn't notice him because he was too emotional.

Hearing the person in front of him speak first, he knew there was no way to avoid it, so he slowly raised his head and gave a dry laugh.

“I didn’t mean to listen,” she paused for a moment and shook her hand. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”

Su Xun waited for a few minutes but Gan Tang didn't respond again, so he thought Gan Tang was angry.

Being rejected is already embarrassing enough, but to be caught by a classmate would make her feel uncomfortable too.

Gan Tang gave Su Xun a deep look, sighed, and sat down in the chair opposite Su Xun.

Su Xun cleanly took out a tissue from her pocket and handed it to Gan Tang. She knew that she couldn't say anything comforting right now, and it was indeed not a good time to bring up what had just happened, so she didn't intend to bring it up herself.

Gan Tang took the tissue, gently wiped the tears from her face, and didn't say anything more.

The two of them sat there awkwardly, and an awkward feeling arose between them.

"What would you like to drink? I'll go order for you."

Gan Tang shook her head, stared at the table in front of her, calmed herself down, and then slowly spoke.

"That person was Zhang Xinji. I've known him for a long time; you could say we're childhood sweethearts."

Su Xun immediately realized that this was the boy from earlier.

“We used to play together when we were little. Our families lived close by and we often visited each other. He took care of me like a big brother next door, took me out to play, and would stand up for me if he saw someone bullying me. I was very dependent on him when I was little. But as I grew older, I found that my feelings had changed. I realized that I liked him. I was very scared at the time, so I didn’t dare to tell him.”

"I was just starting junior high at the time, and I didn't know anything. I was scared and shy. My first thought when faced with this kind of thing was to stay away. A year passed like that. He graduated and went to another school for high school. I finally mustered up the courage to confess to him, but he had someone he liked at his new school and rejected me. It was a coincidence, too. That time, it was also at this bubble tea shop, at the same seat."

Hearing this, Su Xun touched his nose guiltily, thinking to himself: There's an even more coincidence, your conversation was overheard by the same person.

However, she didn't intend to say that.

“I’m heartbroken and resentful. He used to treat me so well. It must be because I’ve been avoiding him all year that he got angry. So I tried to provoke him by dating different guys, hoping to make him jealous and come looking for me. But I made a mistake, a mistake from the very beginning…”

At this point, Gan Tang became very emotional, and tears streamed down her face again. Su Xun quickly handed her another piece of paper.

"He really has someone he likes, so he doesn't care about what I did."

Tears kept flowing, so Su Xun simply handed the whole pack of tissues to the person in front of her, not daring to say anything to disturb them.

After an unknown amount of time, Gan Tang finally returned to normal and calmed down, though her eyes were still red.

Even when a beautiful woman sheds tears, she exudes an ethereal aura.

Su Xun cautiously began, "But why are you telling me all this? We..."

She and Gan Tang weren't exactly close; they'd been classmates for over two years but weren't even friends. Yet, the fact that Gan Tang confided such a secret to her made her feel flattered.
