Chapter Nine: Reconciliation

After walking to the table, Teacher Li spoke again, "Where's the note from earlier? Passing notes with your deskmate during class, is that puppy love?"

"Early love" is a sensitive topic that everyone tacitly agrees on after entering junior high school. Everyone is about to enter or has already entered puberty, and the desire for attention from the opposite sex is held back by shyness. Parents and teachers also strictly control this aspect.

Upon hearing the words "puppy love," Su Xun's voice trembled with fear: "No, teacher, we didn't."

Her face flushed even redder instantly, and she lowered her head.

Pei Ke, who was standing next to him, explained, "Teacher, you've really misunderstood. We were actually discussing studying just now."

He explained, taking the note that Su Xun hadn't had time to slip in, unfolding it and handing it to the teacher.

"Teacher, look."

Teacher Li took the note with some skepticism, and her tone softened slightly after reading its contents.

He then said, "You two come to my office after class." With that, he took the note and left.

The other students left in the classroom staring at each other in bewilderment, having just been scared half to death, and now this had happened, they were just in for a good show.

After class, the students finally couldn't hold back any longer and swarmed around Su Xun and Pei Ke's desk, asking them what had happened, their expressions ambiguous.

Su Xun had just been criticized by the teacher and was now too embarrassed to speak. Pei Ke quickly shooed away the classmates around him who were already burning with gossip, "It's nothing, it's nothing. We still have to go to the office. Su Xun, let's go first."

The students immediately lost interest and dispersed in twos and threes, packing up their things and returning to their dormitories.

Self-study classes are usually held in the evening, until 9:30 pm. Boarding students go back to their dormitories, and day students go home.

Su Xun and Pei Ke went to the office. Only a few slower students were still tidying up in the classroom, along with Song Lisha, who looked indignant.

She had just witnessed Pei Ke and Su Xun's interaction from behind, which made her, who harbored a vague affection for Pei Ke, somewhat unhappy.

Pei Ke is outstanding in appearance and academics, and is liked by her classmates and teachers. She should be friends with someone as beautiful and academically excellent as her. How can she play with a coward like Su Xun who blushes as soon as she speaks?

Feeling resentful, he squeezed the page under his fingers until it became deformed.

Meanwhile, Pei Ke and Su Xun were in the office explaining what had just happened to their teacher.

Pei Ke briefly recounted what had happened, with Su Xun occasionally chiming in, finally convincing the teacher.

After learning the truth, Teacher Li gradually changed her tone. Just now, Pei Ke saw that Su Xun was having difficulty memorizing words and wanted to help her, but it was not appropriate to speak during self-study time, so he passed notes instead.

Thinking that Pei Ke not only excelled academically but also helped his classmates, Teacher Li was very pleased and praised Pei Ke again before letting them go.

Back in the classroom, Su Xun thanked Pei Ke, checked the time, and quickly packed his things, as they would be checking the dorms if he didn't return soon.

Seeing that Pei Ke was still sitting there unhurriedly, and even seemed to be planning to finish the questions he hadn't completed earlier, Su Xun stopped what he was doing and asked him, "Pei Ke, if you don't go back to your dorm soon, it will be too late."

Pei Ke glanced at her and replied with amusement, "I don't live on campus. It's been half a month since school started and you still haven't noticed?"

Su Xun was speechless. She really didn't know. Usually, after class, everyone would go back to their own dormitories. Su Xun would go back directly with her roommates and didn't care where Pei Ke went.

Su Xun nodded. "Oh, then I'll be going now. Goodbye."

Pei Ke was the only one left in the classroom, a smile still lingering in her eyes.

His father happened to have some business to attend to near the school today, and said he would pick him up at ten o'clock. After glancing at the clock above the blackboard, he slung his bag over his shoulder and left.
