Chapter Ten: Lovely Cherries

At 7:40 a.m. sharp, the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class.

The break between classes after morning reading is quite long. Some students who wake up late use this time to rush to the cafeteria for breakfast, while students on duty sweep every corner of the classroom. Many more students take a nap at their desks as soon as class is over.

Morning reading begins at seven o'clock; the students get up very early.

There's a reason why Rossie High School has a high college entrance rate: its strict academic standards.

In Huaicheng, only Luoxi Middle School arranges evening self-study sessions, and only Luoxi Middle School provides accommodation and adopts a closed management system. Although day students do not live on campus, they are the same as other students and cannot leave the school gate except when they go home at night.

The school has a large cafeteria and supermarket that can meet the dietary needs of all students, and also has a separate medical room. The school has gone to great lengths to ensure that students can study at the school with peace of mind.

Although many students sleep on their desks, there are also students like Su Xun who can't keep up with their studies and can only spend more time studying after class.

In a little while, it will be English class. The English teacher, Ms. Shen, will give dictation tests every day, not only on the words in the textbook but also on the words she adds in class. The passing score is 80, so the dictation tests in their class are always very difficult.

Therefore, quite a few students failed the dictation test every day. After the fourth period, the English teacher would block the classroom door with the dictation books. The students who passed would go to eat, while the students who failed would go with the teacher to an empty small room at the end of the corridor, where there were tables and chairs, and everyone would take the dictation test again.

Su Xun was a regular at that small classroom, almost every day. Several times he even missed mealtimes because he couldn't remember the words. When he got to the cafeteria, the aunties had already started washing dishes.

This morning, Su Xun also worked hard to memorize words, hoping to raise her score to seventy.

Su Xun, who usually scores around 60, thought optimistically.

Pei Ke had been gone for a while, but now he was back in his chair, turned around, and looked at his deskmate.

"Didn't we say yesterday that I would teach you how to memorize words? Let's start now." Pei Ke smiled brightly.

Su Xun looked up, blinked, and thought about it. He realized that there was such a thing, so he pushed the page of the vocabulary list a little closer to him, signaling him to continue.

I still have no energy this morning!

Seeing that the person in front of him looked listless, Pei Ke pushed the milk he had just bought towards him and said, "You can drink it while you listen, otherwise I'm worried you'll fall asleep later."

Su Xun didn't stand on ceremony. He said thank you, inserted a straw, and took a sip.

Pei Ke then spoke up: "I've observed that you memorize words by imprinting each letter into your brain. This method is not only extremely inefficient, but also prone to errors."

Su Xun, who had only managed to perk up after drinking a few sips of cold milk, blinked twice, then suddenly opened her eyes wide, making her already large eyes appear even larger, her dark eyes looking at Pei Ke with what seemed like surprise.

"How did you notice that!"

Pei Ke picked up his pen, tapped it lightly on the table twice, deliberately raised his eyebrows, and replied, "Do you think I can't tell? Don't you know who I am? I'm Young Master Pei, who's amazing at memorizing words!"

Su Xun was amused by the deliberately rising tone of his voice and hiccuped. Then he felt a little embarrassed and blushed.

"Alright, I'm not teasing you anymore. I'll just tell you my method. When you're memorizing words, you need to read them aloud. Memorize them based on their pronunciation. Teacher Shen taught us phonetics at the beginning of the semester. You'll get a feel for it if you read them a lot." Pei Ke put away his previous frivolous expression and cleared his voice.

A little later, the boy pointed to a few words in the textbook as an example, and Su Xun listened attentively, nodding occasionally.

During a break between classes, Su Xun finally figured out why he couldn't remember words, and received the true teachings of "Young Master Pei, who is very good at memorizing words," as if his Ren and Du meridians had been opened.

Although, she still appeared in that small classroom after the fourth period.

But this time she was confident that she would come less often in the future.

In the afternoon, after the bell rang for the eighth period, the students in the classroom rushed to the cafeteria like the wind to grab a front row seat.

Su Xun and Pu Xiaochuan went to find Tang Shi together. As a close trio from elementary school, they would occasionally eat together.

Since they started having daily English dictation practice, they can only eat together in the afternoon.

The three of them had finished getting their food and sat down in a corner. Tang Shi and Pu Xiaochuan sat side by side, while Su Xun sat opposite them.

"Sigh, since we came to this school, we have less and less time to get together," Tang Shi sighed, picking at the food in her bowl.

Upon hearing this, Pu Xiaochuan immediately chimed in, "That's right! Not seeing that she-devil so often makes me feel much better, and I can even sleep soundly now."

Tang Shi immediately got angry, put down her chopsticks, and went to pinch Pu Xiaochuan's arm.

Pu Xiaochuan looked at Su Xun with a pitiful expression on his chubby face. "See? I get persecuted every time I encounter this female demon. Su Xun, you have to help me this time."

Su Xun was both amused and exasperated. Tang Shi and Pu Xiaochuan were bound to bicker whenever they met, and she had gotten used to it over the years.

So he habitually ignored Pu Xiaochuan's pleas for help, slowly picked up a piece of green vegetable and put it in his mouth. After swallowing, he smiled and said, "Pu Xiaochuan, I dare not be presumptuous in front of the female demon."

"Su Xun, you actually said I'm fierce too? I'm usually so gentle with you." Tang Shi pouted and complained after hearing what he had just said.

Su Xun only jokes so freely with people he knows well.

The three were happily eating and chatting when Pu Xiaochuan suddenly seemed to remember something and asked, "Su Xun, what happened between you and Pei Ke during self-study last night? Why were you called to the office?"
