Chapter Thirty-Two: A Text Message

Tch, why bother with that? As long as Su Xun didn't send Song Lisha a letter to annoy me, that's all that matters.

The phone screen had automatically turned off. I quickly unlocked it and tapped Su Xun's number without hesitation. The dialing sound came from the phone, intermittent yet very rhythmic, like a small drum beating in my chest.

I felt a vibration in my palm, and the call finally connected.

The air conditioner was radiating warmth in waves, making my face feel hot. I made the call but didn't know what to say. I regretted not thinking things through before making the call so rashly. I could have used another method, like QQ or a text message.

It seemed she called his name once and then fell silent, as if waiting for him to speak.

"I'm sorry." Her tone softened, and she hurriedly hung up the phone.

He put his phone on silent and tucked it into his desk drawer, but then thought it wasn't right. So he took it out, stood up, looked around the room, and his gaze settled on a soft spot in the corner. He strode over and hid the burning hot phone under the covers, then piled a pillow on top of it.

Phew~ I shouldn't be able to hear it this time.

The boy standing by the bed turned around, breathed a satisfied sigh of relief, and walked towards the door.

As soon as he closed the door, he frowned, patted his head, and wondered what he was doing!

I made the call rashly, said an irrelevant apology, felt embarrassed to hear the other party's reply, and hurriedly hung up. To avoid seeing the other party's call, I even hid my phone.

Are you an idiot?

It's just an apology; why do you care whether the other person accepts it or not?

After thinking it over, he turned around and went back to his room, took out his phone, and swiped the screen.

They didn't call back!

Is she really going to do this? He clearly lowered his head just now, and even though he didn't finish speaking, he could tell he wanted to apologize.

Didn't Su Xun hear it?

A bird landed by the window, tilted its head and looked at a boy inside the room who was scratching his head and rolling around on the bed, a look of confusion in its eyes.

The phone that was pressed under his body suddenly vibrated, the vibration transmitted through his clothes to his body.

Pei Ke buried his face in the pillow, with only a messy, hairy back of his head sticking out. He pulled his phone out from under him with his left hand.

He turned his head, revealing one eye, and glanced at his phone.

"I understand, I'm not really angry." Only a few words appeared on the QQ screen, but that was enough.

The boy on the bed jumped up, and the light in his eyes returned.

The bird by the window was startled by the noise inside the room, flapped its wings, and flew away.

In the afternoon, Su Xun made dumplings with her family for the New Year. After washing her hands, she went to her room.

As soon as I reached the door, I heard my phone ringing. I quickly wiped my hands and picked up the phone. It was Pei Ke calling.

Last time I wanted to take the initiative to talk to him properly, but I didn't know what to say, so I gave up. This time, he came to me on his own.

A faint smile appeared at the corner of his lips.

I pressed the answer button, but there was no sound from the other end for a long time. Did I press the wrong button?

She could only tentatively call out his name, waiting for him to continue.

To her surprise, the other party said "sorry" and hung up quickly before she could even react.

However, given how proud Pei Ke is usually, it must have been quite difficult for him to take the initiative to apologize to her.

Although Pei Ke was gentle, polite, and seemed to have a good temper, she knew that he was arrogant and had an awkward personality.

She knew it was already quite an achievement for him to even offer that apology. She could tell from the way he hung up the phone halfway through that he was probably too embarrassed to continue and was waiting for her to give him a way out.

Su Xun couldn't help but laugh out loud. He didn't know why this person was so awkward when he was angry, and even his apology was so awkward.

I opened QQ, typed a few words, and sent them.

Who cares why I was angry back then? As long as I'm okay now.

He should understand now.

My phone vibrated again; a text message had arrived.

—"Su Xun, the New Year is coming soon, so I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year in advance."

Su Xun was puzzled as to why the text message was coming from the same number again.

Since the start of the holiday, she has received text messages from this person every few days. The messages don't include a name and only contain a few words of greeting or inquiries about her habits and preferences.

On several occasions, he directly shared some interesting things that happened to him, vividly editing them into text.

At first, Su Xun thought someone had sent the message to the wrong person, but when she saw the words "Su Xun classmate" in the message, she guessed that it must be a classmate from school.

Who is it?

Su Xun glanced at the number and dialed it directly, but the call was immediately hung up. He tried calling several more times with the same result, so he gave up on it.

This person is very strange.

On the steps beside the basketball court, a boy in a red basketball jersey sat on the ground, holding his phone.

She carefully typed a line of text and sent it, a gentleness she herself didn't even realize was in her eyes. Suddenly, the phone rang. She glanced at the contact name "Little White Rabbit," and nervously hung up.

A round-faced boy curiously approached and asked, "Brother Ce, who are you texting? You're smiling so slyly."

The boy shoved the man's shoulder. "Tsk, what are you looking at?"

Luo Feng leaned closer again and winked. "I know, last time you asked me to find out the contact information for that little white rabbit in Class Two, so—you've got your eye on her!"

Jiang Ce immediately stood up and said, "Shut up."

Even though the air was still chilly, the tips of her ears were already tinged with a rosy hue, making them particularly eye-catching.

The thing I look forward to most during winter break is the Lunar New Year, which is a new beginning.

After the New Year, the weather warms up, and the seeds buried underground gradually revive, secretly raising their heads in the soil, waiting for the first rumble of spring thunder, the first gentle drizzle, and the breeze that travels a long way from the distant ocean.

Those beautiful romances, like spring, await sprouting from the earth.

After enjoying the sweet glutinous rice balls, everything started to get back on track. Su Xun was about to start a new semester, and some changes also occurred at home.

During the Spring Festival, Su's father's friend came again and asked him to go to S City with him to try his luck. This time, Su's mother did not object.

The children are all grown up now, and there are many places where money is needed. The two of them running that small shop can't solve the problem in the end.

Let the men go out and make their own way; who knows, they might actually achieve something great.

So, after the Spring Festival ended and Su Xun started school, Su's father took a sum of money from home and took a long-distance train to S City.

Su Xun still felt uneasy, but these were all adult matters, and she couldn't interfere. Even if she objected, she couldn't give any legitimate reason. She just secretly resolved to study hard so that her family could have a better life in the future.
